Life / SOME OBSERVATIONS ABOUT POLAND AND POLISH SOCIETY [297]

Is that supposed to sound pejorative?

No, I'm comparing your attitudes towards being "nationally insulted" to the attitudes of Americans about this topic.

Erm... don't judge other people by your standards. If you're not able to be laid-back
and have fun while bashing some troll online, then it's only your problem, not mine.

It's pretty obvious you were just offended and wanted to be mean to someone because you felt attacked. You even said so yourself. You can justify it all you want to yourself, just don't try and justify it to me because I am not interested in entertaining lies. The Emperor's New Clothes game isn't that much fun either.

My intention with that Catholic remark was to point out how silly it is refer to something completely irrelevant about a person in an attempt to discredit or counter some ideas of theirs. I'm completely dismayed that instead of pointing out my intentional flaw, you just attempt to escalate it with further ad hominem. Is that all you can do?

It's not about reducing the number of trolls, it's about not reacting to them. You clearly got sucked in by this troll, you made an emotional investment where there was no benefit to doing so. If the troll has altered your feelings in any way, then it has been successful. The person who loses something is the one who reacts.

Life / SOME OBSERVATIONS ABOUT POLAND AND POLISH SOCIETY [297]

Torq has a point, Matowy. The Mods let a few things slide but with good reason.

And I believe it's for the reason I stated, because censoring things about only one specific topic is unethical, and they seem to realise that.

Trust me, I've sat in classes where I've had to delicately spark it as, otherwise, they would sit in their boring little worlds and not generate any enthusiasm for anything. Torq, to his credit, comes alive and defends things that matter to him.

Eh, I have a pretty negative view on being passionate, precisely for this reason. Passion is always viewed as a good quality to have, but based on people who convey passion about their chosen subject, people can become passionate about the wrong things. Passion about religion, nationality, ideology, all of that stuff, it practically forces inobjectivity and knee-jerk reactions such as this. Enthusiasm about something is fine, but to the point where it compromises rational thinking it just becomes dangerous.

Life / SOME OBSERVATIONS ABOUT POLAND AND POLISH SOCIETY [297]

If someone insults me (or my country), I will insult him (or his country) back - simple as that.

You're right, it is simple. In it's immaturity it can't possibly be more simplistic. You sound like some American.

600 million Indians

Stop. Relevance of that? Absolutely none.

Ignoring? Where's the fun in that?

I am not interested in your superifical and unconvincing attempts to make it look as if you're being laid-back. Your actions say otherwise.

I wouldn't be so sure.

Then you've been successfully trolled 100%. Congratulations, you're gullible and easily manipulated. That explains the Catholic thing about you.

Really? It's not Jews anymore - it's Indians now? Interesting.

No, you're still crap at subtlety. Don't try it any further, I grow bored with it easily.

Of course, in a perfect world, all threads that are insultive towards Poland and Poles
or those which are posted by obvious trolls, would simply be deleted by the moderating
team. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen on this forum

If that were to happen then every other thread or post being insulting towards a group would have to be removed as well. Granted it is a Polish forum, but the member base would disappear quickly if moderation became biased and censor-happy.

thus the necessity of occasional troll-bashing feast.

Look up the word "necessity". Then look up the term "trolling". Long story short, no it isn't a necessity, it just degrades everyone involved, including you. And like I've already pointed out, by "bashing" the obvious troll, you make their mission successful, and in the process manage to prove yourself no better than they are.

Language / Your perception of the Polish accent [145]

With the speed of Polish you exaggerated a bit. Maybe it sounds like that to you.

I didn't. Compare the Queen speaking to a Polish woman speaking and the difference in speed is highly noticable. It's probably an unfair comparison since it's different languages, but as someone who uses an efficient English dialect, I feel comfortable saying that "proper" English is simply painfully slow. I'm hyperboling a bit, yes. It's just mildly annoying that the most inefficient, ugly and hardest to mimic English accent is somehow the "proper" one.

The U.S has incredible homogeneity in accents for a land of that size and population. I'm not sure of all the reasons, but apparently the technology of radio and TV being so prominent in the U.S is a major reason. It might be down to its young age and inter-state travel being so easy. And the U.S does have accents influenced by immigrants, it's just hard to tell exactly which immigrants. The New York accent/s are understandably based off the huge Jewish population in New York, for example, plus some Italian. It can even be said that the pressure was on the immigrants to integrate into American society as quickly as possible through any means, since the U.S has never really been accomodating to immigrants. Canada, however, does have more variation.

By the way, the migration aspect of influencing future accents isn't 100% linear, it does depend a lot on two languages merging, which doesn't happen much in modern times (which could account for the lack of variation in the U.S). The Poles are in large enough numbers in the UK, but it's unlikely they will impact future accents at all. All of the migration and invasions in England's history were centuries back, a lot of it Scandinavian and French, which are languages that English is now derived from. The most modern impacts on English accents were Irish immigrants, who spoke English.

Life / SOME OBSERVATIONS ABOUT POLAND AND POLISH SOCIETY [297]

Hey - you took this sentence out of the entire troll-bashing context, but yes - when an
Indian troll comes here and starts lecturing me on civilization and claiming that Poland has
nothing in common with Western Europe and Latin civilization roots, then he will always
get what you quoted (and more).

That's truly a brilliant stance to take. If someone says something you don't like, then take whatever information is available to you about them and say as many offensive things as you can using that little piece of information. Instead of, in this case, proving the "troll" wrong by stating facts, or even IGNORING the obvious troll, the best thing to do is get emotionally hurt and invested in the troll and be as rude as possible with the least productive comments possible. Hah, the troll surely never saw that coming, you totally surprised him!

In case you didn't notice, I'm being sarcastic. I shouldn't have to tell you this, but apparently we have 8 pages of people making fools of themselves and giving the troll exactly what he wants, so forgive me for concluding that you're alll just too ******* dumb to recognise subtlety, or exercise it for that matter.

And here's some more subtlety for the astounding dumbfucks that fell for this: This poster clearly isn't Indian. Being a troll, he knows that this forum has a comedically disproportionately random hatred for Indians in particular, which is why he chose to call himself Indian.

Language / Your perception of the Polish accent [145]

The English can't speak proper English at all :) Except for the Queen.

No, the Queen speaks terrible English. Just because she's the Queen it doesn't mean she's speaking correctly.

And how do I define correct? By what is the easiest to enunciate and to understand. What the Queen and most of British television speak in is actually pretty unnecessarily complex English pronunciation. Simple vowels like "O" becomes a many layered disjointed and incomprehensible generic vowel sound that begins with an "e" or an "a". Speakers of this kind of English will pronounce two or even three vowel sounds in place of one simple vowel. This isn't correct English, it's just sloppy and inefficient. It's also inefficient because it can't be spoken very fast. Some of the more efficient English dialects can communicate with four or five times the speed. Polish can be spoken at around ten times the speed. Yet another reason why this type of "English" is inefficient and downright offensive to the ears. Even American English sounds better.

EDIT: Here's a reason why Poland should have more accent variety than England:

- Geographic location. England being on an island means that it has less exposure to foreign influences throughout history. All of the accents in England can be attributed to migration levels and invasions, which are relatively few due to it being surrounded by sea. Mainland Europe has has more of this, and Poland is bordered by several countries with foreign languages; England is kind of bordered by two, sort of, and both use English anyway.

because it just adds another layer to who you are and many people do find it interesting.

No it doesn't, it just means you speak in a certain way.

Don't overestimate the power of democracy. The freedom to vote is simply a freedom to choose the lesser evil.

History / Poles should emulate Jews? [153]

When one thinks of some of the worthless crap (products, 'music', causes, fads, lifestyles, notions, buzz-words) that are being peddled and swallowed by the gullible public, why cannot occasionally something meaningful catch on?

Because those worthless things are popular precisely because they are worthless. And you assume that this idea of Polish solidarity is a meaningful one...

USA, Canada / Poles in America: How do you pronounce your Polish surname? [128]

Perkovvskee

Per - Like pear, but faster
Kov - Like cough, but faster and with a V sound at the end. This is the syllable where you place the emphasis of the word

Ski - Like the sport

Your profile does say you know Polish, eh...

History / Poles should emulate Jews? [153]

Polonius, what you propose doesn't make sense. Jews are characterized by their strong attachment to their culture (not religion), and their "stick together at all costs, **** everyone else" mentality. Poles do not have these characteristics. It's not a good or bad thing, they just don't have them. You can't emulate a culture, and you can't artificially weave one, they progress as they will.

Not only that, but the Jewish mindset is a bunch of crap. Looking after just those people who are of the same ethnicity and culture is a disgraceful way to live, no matter how many rednecks think otherwise. Polish people, for all their apparent racism, just don't have it in them to be this way. That's a good thing.

Lastly, Jews have the intellectual, financial and economic strength to rely on eachother. Poles do not. Becoming an insular society would be just as disastrous to Poland as it would be to any nation.

History / Poles should emulate Jews? [153]

We should emulate humanity. We are all the same genetically except one percent, that's only superficial traits like eye and hair color, skin color, body and facial shapes, thickness of hair. Genetically, there is no such thing as race. Like it or not, human beings are all pretty much the same so get over yourselves ffs. Life is too short to spend it pissed off at everyone else!

Too much clarity, it burns!

History / Poles should emulate Jews? [153]

Actually, the Persian empire was quite friendly and open to Jews back in the day, in comparison to the Greek empire or the Roman one.

Nice bit of trivia there, relevance?

Genealogy / Are all Poles blue eyed and blonde? [450]

Gene inheritance doesn't work like that... if your family is 99% (for example) brown haired and brown eyed, but 1% is blue eyed and red haired, then depending on chance (I don't remember the exact percentages) you could end up with red hair and blue eyes in a very slim likelihood. In other words, just because only some of your genes have the necessary prequisites, it doesn't mean that these genes will be completely diluted by the stronger genes. If you're even a little Irish, then that could explain it. Either that or your mother had an affair at some point (I don't mean to be impolite, but it's a likely scenario, and very common). Are you sure there's no Medittiranean in your family?

UK, Ireland / Polish and East European prostitutes in the UK [240]

It's really disgusting how british men can buy these services, when they know that those poor girls were forced into this.

Prostitution isn't unique to Britain. You'll find it everywhere, without exception.

History / Ghetto Uprising better known than Warsaw Uprising? [111]

I think the words "bravery", "courage", and "cowardice" should be stricken from the dictionary. They are fantasy concepts that have no basis in reality, and they are always used to evoke an emotional response in an audience rather than accurately describing human acts or character. Tabloids and politicians use these words as a means of manipulation, anyone can see that the usages are hollow. The subjectivity of these concepts is so that they may as well not exist at all.

The word "hero" is outright a fantasy concept, as it is applicable mostly to mythology and fiction. Human beings are more complex than some fictional character.

Genealogy / Polish equivalent of "Jessie"? [48]

It's a stretch, but maybe "Czesława" was given the diminutive of "Czessy" in English, and this mutated into "Jessie". It seems likely that the name was diminunized at some point.

History / The Two Saddest Nations on Earth... Poles and Jews [243]

Have I ever said it's about DNA? I call someone a father because he acted like a father for me, not if his DNA is same same as me...

I am speaking generally, in terms of this discussion, this forum, and how this forum reflects peoples real mindsets.

Said it before and will say it again- Jews are a nasty race.

Say it as many times as you like, you'll sound stupid each and every time.
