Or if it should be sooner, skiing/snowboarding.

My man's cooking on gas now;)

Although it might not have universal appeal to be fair.

I think that applies to a lot of us dt.

Maybe it's us changing but I doubt it. The undercurrent on here is being changed by a few blinkered zealots who are incapabale of coherent argument.

Anyway enough bleating. Who's organising the good old days PF meet up in Polska then? I'm overdue a return. Haven't been back for over 2 years.

fight, fight, fight

It does appear to attract its fair share of pugilists.

The rapier has been replaced by the broadsword:)

Life / did/does Polish TV show any British Sitcoms? [35]

I would have thought ridiculing priests would have been frowned upon by the 'establishment'. Am I wrong in thinking that?

<this is where Ironside tells me that every episode has been shown in prime time and makes me look less clever than Father Dougal>

News / Poland pulls out of Eurovision in austerity measure. [17]

I think Poland has made a pragmatic and sensible decision on Eurovision. Just wish the UK would do the same. Let's face it we could get Led Zep to reform and enter and we would still come last or thereabouts. Our only chance would be if we obtain voting rights for every island off our coast.... here is the verdict from the Isle of WIght jury

The people I have exposed father Ted to here will never be the same again :)

I am certainly not the same man after watching it. I'll never look at a lingerie department ever again without ******* myself laughing;)

Hope you are well by the way... it's been a while

UK, Ireland / Fertile Polish Women in the UK [87]

I didn't know such thing existed.

Course it does. We have benefits for everything. You can get up to £700 towards the costs of funeral expenses if you're on a 'low income'..

Not sure if we have benefits for the mental stress of writing large cheques to HMRC. I must check as I've just done that.

Language / Questions about Jej vs. Swoje, ą and ę, and Latin similarities [27]

Latin which had five (5) cases: Nominative, Genitive, Dative, Accusative and Ablative

the five main cases

Fancyghost 1 - Lyzko 0 ....

Never forget the useless Vocative...

O table - what use was that. Did Romans wander round talking to inanimate objects?

Food / What's more popular in Poland beer or vodka? [41]

Correct.... but that doesn't stop a very dedicated friend of mine from making hops infused vodka. Take a load of hops, pour loads of vodka on it, leave for four or five days shaking gently each day and strain out for a differnet tasting vodka. Vodka for the beer lover lol.

Sharly decided to open up another brewery

Actually I have never had a brewery. Why waste time brewing when you can be supping the ale?

Is Des back under a new 'nomme de guerre'?

The Ruler? Sounds a bit pretentious to me. We should alll have nice, calming screen names like Primrose, Babbling Brook or Elle Macpherson.

Not long to the Euros now. Anyone want to rent my apartment in Warsaw? Only 50,000 Euros a week but you get free beer and will be be within staggering distance of Nobo. Assuming Nobo is still there of course. It's been over two years since I was there to check.

More importantly, it's only two years to the World Cup in Brazil. Where better place to watch the footie.

History / Poland and Britain started WW2 [307]

Next you will be saying that Ireland tried to invade England during the war.

Which of course is ludicrous. Mind you Ireland does invade England every year for the Cheltenham Festival;) As invasions go it's a great party!

This is more ambitious than, let's say, climbing a bloody mountain

Unless of course the mountain in question is K2 which is not just ambitious but downright suicidal.

Please help

As a result of prolonged absence following a number of very unnatural disasters I feel I must seek to rename this thread "PF - The Annual". It could follow in the great traditions of other notable publications such as The Beano, The Dandy and those girlie ones that my Sister used to read. In fact, thinking about it, there are parallels with The Beano and The Dandy. Here on PF we have the Bash Street Kids (Harry, Delph and Des), Desperate Dan (anyone seeking that perfect Polish girl on a plate without the need to leave their run down terrace house where the sofa has a hole in it from prolonged watching of daytime TV) and Lord Snooty (er, that's me according a PM received from a caring and understanding forumite).

Having spent some time reading recent activity on here it was reassuring to note that in times of such global change and uncertainty there has been no evidence of a Polish Forums Spring that seeks to overthrow the management team. Mubarak, Ben Ali, Gaddafi and Saleh have gone but Admin and the Mods continue to provide a strict but benign guiding hand over the many tribes that live, love and squabble here.

Here in the dingy surrounds of the back streets of a grey and boring suburban town in the UK little has changed on the face of it. The threadbare carpet in the office is the same, empty Guinness cans abound and the waste bin overflows with half finished sudoku puzzles. The pile of golf clubs in the corner that were 'proven to improve your scores' but sadly didn't has grown. However, there have been some changes. The dedicated editor (Ed) has finally fled his creditors and is living in a tent somewhere near Phnom Penh and not taking calls. The rest of the editorial team breached their parole conditions and are back in Dartmoor Prison.

So that leaves just me to write something. I have to confess that is impossible to summarise anything and that my true intent is merely to try to get this thread to fifty pages since 49 pages upsets my compulsive obsession with symmetry. My thinking is this post and the inevitable responses demanding to know what I'm on should go some way towards this objective.

I promise that if you help me make the magic fifty I will ride quietly into the sunset on my trusty mule George.

Hasta la vista

USA, Canada / If America is so bad, why move here? [254]

Britain was occupied by the Romans and the Danes

Depends on your definition of 'occupation' Neither the Romans or Vikings (who came from not just present day Denmark but also Sweden & Norway) ever controlled the whole of the British Isles, especially the pesky Scots. Neither came close to a full occupation.

And before anybody starts shouting 1066 and the French remember that they were Normans who were the descendents of fthe vikings (Norse Men) that we kicked out to Northern France.
