History / Famous Russian Poles [243]

His ancestors must have been of Ruthenian szlachta origin (that is Ukrainians or Belorussians).

Well, you can't find more Polish name than Sikorski ....moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/sikorski.html

This name isn't polonisated version of Ruthenian name ... some Poles were simple moving on east ...

Multiple Origins of Ashkenazi Levites: Y Chromosome Evidence for Both
Near Eastern and European Ancestries

familytreedna.com/pdf/Levite%20paper.pdf

If a European origin for the Ashkenazi Levite haplogroup
R1a1 component is accepted as a reasonable
possibility
, it is of interest to speculate further on the
possible timing, location, and mechanism of this event.
Because the modal haplotype of haplogroup R1a1
found in the Ashkenazi Levites is found at reasonably
high frequency throughout the eastern European region

Blessing gesture depicted on the gravestone of Rabbi and Kohen Meschullam Kohn

/wiki/Priestly_Blessing

The Priestly Blessing, (Hebrew: ברכת כהנים‎; translit. Birkat Kohanim), also known in Hebrew as Nesiat Kapayim, (lit. Raising of the Hands), is a Jewish prayer recited by Kohanim during certain Jewish services. It is based on a scriptural verse: "They shall place My name upon the children of Israel, and I Myself shall bless them."[1] It consists of the following Biblical verses (Numbers 6:24-26):
May YHWH bless you and guard you - יְבָרֶכְךָ יְהוָה, וְיִשְׁמְרֶךָ
May YHWH make His face shine on you and show favor to you - יָאֵר יְהוָה פָּנָיו אֵלֶיךָ, וִיחֻנֶּךָּ

/wiki/Ten_Lost_Tribes

The phrase Ten Lost Tribes of Israel refers to the ancient Tribes of Israel that disappeared from the Biblical account after the Kingdom of Israel was destroyed, enslaved and exiled by ancient Assyria.[1] Many groups of Jews have doctrines concerning the continued hidden existence or future public return of these tribes. This is a subject that is partially based upon authenticated and documented historical fact, partially upon written religious tradition and partially upon speculation. There is a vast amount of literature on the Lost Tribes and no specific source can be relied upon for a complete answer.

Genealogy / Knew I was Hungarian, but my DNA came back Polish? [23]

It's very probable that we come from the same ancestors.

Like Budda :

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R1a1

Several Indian studies have pressed the case for an Indian origin for R1a1 from the diversity and distinctiveness of microsatellite Y-STR variation. Sengupta et al. conclude that there must have been an independent R1a1 population in India dating back to a much earlier expansion than the Indo-Aryan migration.

History / Poland's King Jan III Sobieski - the stopper of Turkish Janissaries! [64]

I agree that beating Turks at Viena was one of the biggest Polish mistakes. Later Austria and Prussia partitioned Poland.

We can't change it, it was much better let Turks beat more Germans. Durring the battle of Viena Poles played crucial role so Poland would defend itself without problems.

Reed - who would think few years ago that we are going to have come back of reed on our roofs ...

Reed isolates houses well (better than till) and is very ecological. Production process is much more cleaner than in case of tile ...

trzcina.pl/dachy_eng.html

REED CHARACTERISTICS

Reed values, as a natural raw material used for roofing, are unique:
uncontaminated ecological product;
does not crumble inside;
perfectly harmonizes with landscape;
insulating power 98%;
natural mineralization;
25 years guarantee and at least 50 years endurance

Going back to the city...

Postindustrial 19 century space is being used properly. First 4 stars hotel in £ódz is being build in building of old factory :

In my opinion:
It is going to be something similar to stary browar in poznan

Travel / Polish Architecture [147]

As to present times.

In my opinion there will be more and more such buildings in Poland :

It is Sulejówek in Masovian Voivodeship.

It is nice example of revitalization in Wrocław :

Late modernism wasn't looking good (it is not only my opinion) It is time for change.

It is building before revitalisation :

and after :

This building doesn't have interesting form but functionality.

Building goes 18 meters underground. It doesn't need traditional heating or air conditioning. It has heat pumps (durring summer they cool down) and uses geotermal water. Building has units which intercept hot air exhaled by people inside of it ( reused for heating reasons...). When building is empty computer changes it into kind of thermos to not loose warm inside... wentilation is being closed, units which need power turned off.

History / Famous Russian Poles [243]

Tshcolkowski

He was born in Izhevskoye (now in Spassky District, Ryazan Oblast), in the Russian Empire, to a middle-class family. His father, Edward Tsiolkovsky (in Polish: Ciołkowski), was Polish; his mother, Maria Yumasheva, was an educated Russian woman. His father was a Polish patriot deported to Russia as a result of his revolutionary political activities

Travel / Mushroom picking in spring in Poland? [35]

That's a saddle fungus or "strochok" in Russian. I guess it's the best mushroom to be picked in spring.

It is piestrzenica in Polish.

Other mushroom you can find in spring is Majówka.

or Krążkownica wrębiasta

Travel / Castles and Palaces in Poland (with pictures) [154]

Now something about history of Polish palaces in former eastern Poland ... today Ukraine or Belarus.

Most of them are devastated so I don't know why they have stolen them ... in some they hold potatoes, cows ...

Anny way they played enormous role in resistance against Rusyfication of Polish population under Russian partition. It was the best argument against pan-Slavists from east as long as non Poles in surrounding grounds weren't able to build such

Some remains of old Polish history are still there :

Here we have interesting conection of two different styles:

Small Polish palace and Socrealistic Belrusian monument.

News / GERMANS WANT TO GERMANIZE KOPERNIK (COPERNICUS)! OUTRAGE! [1016]

Not to a polish family ("Watzenrode" doesn't sound polish to me) and in an inner-prussian civil war about taxes mostly he chose the side which was accidentally the side of some Poles too...some indications!

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Grunwald

In Germany the battle was known as the Battle of Tannenberg. In 1914 yet another Battle of Tannenberg took place between Germany and Russia, ending with a Russian defeat.In German propaganda during the World War I / World War II period the 1914 battle was put forth as a revenge for the Polish - Lithuanian victory 504 years earlier, and the battle itself was purposefully named to suit this agenda.

heheh Civil war with some Poles on one side ... :)))))

History / Kashubians are nation in Poland? [123]

They wouldn't if the borders had stayed as they were!

Antoni Abraham (1869-1923) Kashubian representative to the Versailles Treaty, political activist and proponent of Polish Kashubia

Florian Ceynowa had different opinion :

In the XIXth century the Kashubian activist Florian Ceynowa undertook efforts to identitfy Kashubian language, culture and traditions. He awakened Kashubian self-identity He believed in a separate Kashubian identity and strove for a Russian-led pan-Slavic federacy.He considered Poles "born brothers"

History / Kashubians are nation in Poland? [123]

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wielka_Pia%C5%9Bnica

In the forest next to the village during World War II, German Schutzstaffel executed about 12,000 people, mainly Polish and Kashubian intelligentsia from Gdańsk Pomerania.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stutthof_concentration_camp

The first inmates imprisoned on 2 September 1939 were 150 Polish citizens, arrested on the streets of Gdańsk right after the outbreak of the war. The inmate population rose to 6,000 in the following two weeks, on 15 September 1939.

History / Kashubians are nation in Poland? [123]

Why my post about Kashubain opinion has been delated :

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic_minorities_in_Poland

INTEREG estimated there are up to 500,000 Kashubians in Poland.[citation needed] In the Polish census of 2002, however, only 5,100 people declared Kashubian nationality, although 51,000 declared Kashubian as their native language

They conisder themselves Polish.
