Life / My own thoughts about life in Poland (have lived here for two years) [133]

I agree with most of the OP's post. There is an reason for Polands predicament, its economically under developed. Its will take 10-20 more years for its and the other ex-communist states to recover and build their GDP. A richer, better paid population will be more open minded and travelled.

The EU exists to bring countries into 'convergence', its happened to Greece, Ireland and Spain and it will happen here.

Please wait....

When I grew up in the UK, Alf Garnet was on TV complaining about 'Darkies' and the ministrles were blacking up. How things change.

Real Estate / TRESPASSING ON MY LAND IN POLAND....what can i do legally...? [119]

I love Polish life; I love the countryside I own as I have worked hard for this.

How will I learn any differant? every Pole I know is positive about hunting. I bow to your superior knowledge about it and Poland, however. The Poles I know must be wrong.

Law / Investors/Entrepreneurs.. Steer Clear of Poland. [77]

Employees are an investment, the biggest you have. My business is as far away from fast food as possible (consultancy), but I understand you have to accept that employee's are human and wil make mistakes, that they need time to learn and exist as humans.

But if you own a fasty food joint and treat your employees as something akin to poatoes with a hire 'em and fire 'em attitude, don't be surprised that the treat you the same. Pay someone and treat them as you would want to be in the circumstances.

I agree with the OP, Poland is a buracratic nightmare - its even listed as such in international research. If you think the problems with getting gas and electricity supply are normal, you need your head seeing to. To get a service in the UK, you basically order it online or over the phone and a contract is signed and the service, eventually, supllied. There is nothing else a customer should have to do.

History / When will you Poles give back German land and the cities which you robbed? [557]

come and take it

Quite frankly the Germans should be glad that the soviets let them exist. Its not a future Hitler had for the Jews and Poles.

Poland would be a much happier place if its neighbours were France, we could make day trips to Paris , the Alps and the Cote d'Azure and discuss 'what if germany still existed?' on PF.

Real Estate / Is this a bad time to buy an apartment in Poland? [142]

Apparently its a secret. If you have to ask, you can't afford it. MY usual resposne is to look elsewhere, I never undertsand the logic of hiding the price of such a commodity.

Crazy, stupid. If crow is anything to go by, adding '******* insane' to the description would be fair.

Are you Serbian? becuase you also strike me as slightly derranged.

Aftrer this, maybe 'Peasants with pitchforks' miught be an alternative description

Life / The Polish people have a strange attitude to cats and dogs? [84]

People in the cities tend to be a bit better, but still often they get rid of their dogs when they want to go on holidays. A friend of mine found a dog in a forest, tied to the tree, with a bin bag on its head.

Not unusual . My wife grew up next to a forest, people were always abandoning dogs in the woods.

From what i have observed, Polish People in the country anyway, seem to chain or lock up their dogs. I find this strange.

Any dog more than 150 meters from a house, without a collar, can be shot. Dogs in the country are used to guard the house, having it roaming about the garden means it could be poisened/killed by a potential burglar - without entering the property.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2860]

murders:

Amazingly enough, the murder rate for pland went down over 80% the following year.

Yes, the murder rate in Nationmasters figures for Poland is FIVE times the rate it has been in every year since.

The truth is nationmasters have made a factual error on the statistics for Poland.

Their own figures say there were 716 murders. Thats a figure of 0.0179 per 1000, not 0.0562789.

Love / What do Polish guys think of Irish girls? [187]

Not sure why so many people think Ireland is in the UK. That's sort of like saying Poland is part of Germany..

True but Ireland is part of Britain.

The English get just as confused about Britain and England being one and the same (when they are not).

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

You can't just take away an age-old tradition of smoking and drinking in bars. Some pubs may lose out as a result.

Yeah, screw the rights of everybody else to breath clean air. You smoke, I get cancer thats my freedom, eh?

I have a tradition, its called self defense, someone trys to kill me I'll defend myself with a baseball bat in a smokers face.

Cheers!

Seriously, Bar owners will now have unlimited liabilty for the effects of smoke on their employee's and customers. Just walking into a room where smokers have been is classified as a health risk. I somehow doubt that the police will not start enforce the law with the possibilty of easy money, my wife was fined for smoking near a bus stop, FFS.

No I don't smoke. I just have no tolerance for people who try to dicate to adults what they can and can not do on their own property. Can I come round to your flat, shiit in the corner and then tell you that you can't complain about it?

Whiny non-smoker. Got a life time of that ahead of you to complain.

Let me use the argument smokers have used for the last 200 years; If you don't like it, F*** off.

I've spend my life have whiny smokers shitting in my face. Now the boot's on the other foot - screw you.

No one forces you to go to private establishments where the ownersban smoking, why in god's name would you go to a place that had an environment that you didn't like? It was a free country, you could go wherever you want. Choosing to go somewhere and then claiming some sort of oppression is hilarious. The boot is definitely on the foot alright.

Agreed.

News / Smoking ban in Polish bars and restaurants (AT LAST!) [400]

Then what's the problem? I don't mind it turned around as well, because it still makes the point I've been backing the entire time. If I were a smoker, I wouldn't whine about going to a bar where the owner decided to ban smoking.

As you know all bars have to allow smoking otherwise some of their custom would dissaper. So a 'optional' ban is no such thing. Meanwhile the employees and non-smokers are subjected to smoke and the bar owner is legally resposible for the health effects to his staff and customers. Any bar owner who banned smoking and gave a **** about his customers and staff would be in a very poor competative position.

Its a riduculous situation and its why smoking has been banned by the EU.

The point of debat has long since past, so now its just whining.

We allow smoking. You're welcome to pop by.

Where is it?

Open to the public, not public property, or a public space. It's very much private property.

Fine if its private, as such you cannot sell alcohol or tobbaco to anyone.

However, if you want a license to do so, you have to follow the laws of the land. Same if you employ anyone staff, delivery people or cleaners then its a workplace and again there are laws and rights. Staff a not slaves, for instance. You don't own them by employing them just as you don't own the customers who visit your 'private' bar.

News / Polish Foreign Ministry 'prepared' for new Wikileaks material [100]

I know America-bashing is trendy among the PC creeps, but, c'mon guys, let's not confuse illegitimate dictatorial regimes with America, 'the land of the free, home of the brave and arsenal of democracy' which defends human freedom world-wide.

If America is simply a democracy, why does it have military bases in three quarters of the worlds countries? geekpolitics.com/what-do-azerbaijan-djibouti-and-suriname-have-in -common/ for a list of countries.

Thats is an Empire, 'democratic' or not and the diplomatic cable are its inner workings. What they show is how badly run and impotent the Empire has become, precisely the opposite of what the Project for a New American Centuary had planned.

The neocons screwed the US Empire.

Meanwhile the brainwashed drones parrot the party line. As the man said, you would be just as happy under the communists as the 'worlds leading democracy' (lol).

Accurate summary of the status ..

US, Polish, German and British troops identified for combat operations

· Leaked diplomatic cables reveal Russia strategy
· Washington offers to beef up Polish security

"This is the first step in a multi-stage process to develop a complete set of appropriate contingency plans for the full range of possible threats - both regional and functional - as soon as possible," said the secret cable.

The policy shift represents a sea change in Nato defence planning and in assessments of the threat posed by what a Polish official calls "a resurgent Russia."

The shocking part is how German politicians seemed to be terrified of upsetting the Russians

They were.

That is now is the past, its no longer true, things have changed. Its history.

Now Russia is a considered a potential military threat, being nice is no longer an option.

Odd that the UK is supplying combat divisions, however I suspect its becuase they switched over to being air mobile rapid response a few years ago... they are now capable of getting to the baltics quickly. Bring on the A400M.

Hope you are right but reading the cable it sounds like those politicians were simply overruled..

What sort of world do you think we live in? Politicians decide the policy and the military fufil it. The West had a policy of engaging and trading Russia (as does Ploand now, it would seem), but they have come to the conclusion that they need to be military strong with Russia as its the only thing that they understand. Thats what the cable say.

Shame on you Germany and the other western European pansies (politicians, not the people)

For what? agreeing to defend the Baltics with their citizens lives?

The west has nothing to be 'ashamed' of, its policies have worked fine so far and Germany has been following this for twenty year. Acutally invading Russia has been tried before and it does work, what does work in Europe is economic integration, so they don't want to forgo it

If Russia is real existential threat, and a known one, to Poland then that will damage its economic prospects. Do companies like Dell want to invest I a Eastern European war zone or a secure and stable West?

Russia is smarter than to attack Poland or the other Baltic states.

They are smart enough to think about it.

Didnt you read the article? Last year they ran an exercise to plan for an invasion of the Baltics and a nuclear attack on Poland.

Place any weight on what they say and spread the word and you are merely contributing to the mass hysteria. Many articles say many things, peterweg. The key is to brush them off as just sth designed to make people money.

Its a point of fact that Russia ran a military exercise at that time, it was well reported. If you want to live in a fantasy world and believe in faries, please be my guest.

Opening up to what? They swear allegiance to the regime and the great majority would blindly follow it. They do what they are told over there. No messing!

Actualy the Chinese to a vey large extent have a gret apriotic belief in theri country and support it through choice.

Poland doesn't have to worry about PantieLeaks releasing any more nonsense as the twat was arrested today. Let's see how much he can leak from behind bars :)

What sort of idiot are you? Jailing him will have no effect on the leaks or wikipedia whatsoever. Well, maybe one, currently the newspapers are editing and screening the information. If, as expected. Assange is murdered or prosecuted they wil release the unlock key for the entire cables to anyone who has downloaded the encrypted file.

So basicaly the entire store of all cables will be released to the world with no filtering whatsoever. Because the US decided to prosecute one man out of pure spite, with fabricated charges.

Note that he has done nothing illegal, the newspapers have done the same thing - publish the cables - they did not steal them.

At last a politician has the balls to point the finger of blame for the release of the cables. At the Americans

foxnews.com/world/2010/12/08/australia-blame-leaks-assange/

They gave 2.5 million US citizens full access and the ability to download the entire diplomatic cable history. As would be expected, one of them, a US army officer with psycological issues, leaked them.

UK, Ireland / Why British men move to Poland [63]

Oi, what idiot moved this into the Polonia forum? It's nothing to do with Polish people in the UK - unless you count the reason why Polish men don't date British women ;)

Are you saying that Polish women don't look like that? becuase they do.

USA, Canada / Not everyone that lives or comes from America is RICH! [300]

more second, third, fourth chances.

There was a study comparing UK and US health, it found that the poorest people in the UK were in better health than the richest Americans.

The reason is simple, the British get preventative medical care starting before birth, whereas the US get reactive medical care after problems occur. By the time you are getting emergency medical care its too late, your ******.

Personally I'd prefer a healthy life than to spend it in ill health knowing an ambulance would save me a few more times.

The OP has to realise that he is a Pole, not an American. With his criminal record he won't be able to set foot in the USA again. Going to a country as a guest and committing multiple armed robberies, being a member of a criminal gang etc there is no way an official would let him in.

Real Estate / Poland Housing prices in July 2010 [129]

I have just arrived back from Spain ( Barcelona/Malaga) the price of property has gone down 30-50% on villas and more on apartments. Now thats what I call a real bubble.

Yes. 1.6million unsold properties, sales at the lowest level ever. Banks accepting back more repossessions than properties are sold.

There is going to be a blood bath in Spain. Hundreds of thousands of apartments where there is no jobs and the only people interested are going through their own house price crash (90% of buyers in Spain are UK/Irish).
