Food / What is your favorite Polish Vodka? [653]

Its my dads birthday soon and i was thinking of trying to get him some Polish vodka (he likes a drink), any ideas on which one is the best and where to get it from??

Quite a few, Belvedere, Chopin, and of course Zumbrowska. You could also go Russian with Stolichnaya Elit (very expensive) and Russian Standard.

'Polish' fish is supposed to be the best
Polish Pizza too
Polish Beer
Polish girls
Polish Bread
Polish milk
Polish Scientists
Polish programmers
Polish strong men
Polish immigrants
POlish hairdressers

Pizza, programmers, and bread. Leave that to Russians, Italians, and French. Even though Poland has some kick ass programming institutes.

Food / What is your favorite Polish Vodka? [653]

Dec 16, 09, 17:51 - Thread attached on merging:
Best Vodka, or Polish Wódka?

So yes, I know there is another thread for this, but it does a bad job at answering my question. So recently I've been doing a lot off with Belvedere and Chopin; and like all Poles I believe that Polish vodka is the best. However is that true? I've heard that Russian Standard and Stolichnaya are also good, but with their prices they don't seem to compare. Also are Belvedere and Chopin the best in Poland like they claim? They seem too widespread, I've heard other people like Zubrowska the best. Speaking of that, is Zubrowska worth buying? I always see those bison grass in the bottle and think it's going to have a grassy taste or like some herbal drink. Please note I always drink straight and possibly frozen, so which do you recommend the most?

Zumbrowka!!! One of the most popular in all of Poland.

search google for: zubrowka bison grass vodka

Food / What is your favorite Polish Vodka? [653]

Luksusowa (polish for luxury) is a nice vodka, it's one of Polands finer and is considered a premium on the vodka market. It has a unqiue and smooth taste since it's a potato vodka. But it's just that, if you want a good potato vodka go with Chopin which overrides this one and is considered one of the world best. Also, whats with that bottle of Zubrowka you posted, isn't it supposed to have a green tint?

News / Freezing weather in Poland, 42 people dead in winter freeze... and no-one cares? [140]

In Russia, I accept this. The state doesnt care. But Poland? Why people must die?

You know in Stalinist Russia you didn't see too many homeless people at all. They were either executed or given prolonged gulag sentences as a crime and traitorship against the state for being ill-productive and putting negative weight on societies resources.

If you want me to be honest with you, the problem is purely scientific which is why I am nor a socialist or capitalist but a naturalist. I believe that there are factors at play upon our species. First is, faulty socioeconomic grouping by which too many people get what they don't deserve or vice versa and abuse or lack resources in excess or demeanor. Secondly, it's overpopulation and governemnts that guarantee rights to each individual when clearly there aren't enough resoruces or allocated space on labor, commuting, or healthcare markets. Correlations also point out that strain is being put by lower socioeconomic classes having more children than the higher ones. Thirdly, specieism upon the human race not only negatively affect other species around us and the environment which ironically ends up affecting us, but it has also created ill minded perceptions upon human rights, child rearing, resource lineage and distribution, and institutions overpowering society. I'm sure you could get much more, but then again all these are prominent.

Love / All Polish women can't be nutters can they? [257]

I stopped reading half-way through. While she is the problem, the fact that she is Polish is indeed irrelevant. The fact that you made obvious mistakes is relevant though. You should have told her to stop kissing you and pecking at you after the first declaration of your ending of the relationship so you two could have gone your separate ways without having done so while being in a relationship which seems to have caused the most hassle and disturbance. Clearly it wasn't meant to be, and obviously a friendship couldn't have worked out. If you like Polish girls so much, then try again; but the fact that she was so dithering wasn't because of her ethnicity mind you.

ps. Did Southern get banned? I can't click on his profile haha.

Life / Fat People in Poland? [161]

It depends, I have been all over Poland and fatness in Poland is more or less natural. In other words beer guts, a bit thicker limbs or wider hips and thighs for the older/aged men and women. Not anything to the point where it's obese or significantly unhealthy but the natural weight gained with age. As for actual fatness and obesity I wouldn't say so much at all. Especially when compared to the U.S.

urszula

Right just like Hitler in Mein Kampf decreed it socially okay to find humor through society and media on those disabled, unfit, jewish, or even to fully label them as inferior.

Life / Poles are not racist [873]

Are you an idiot? During communism Poles were forced to learn broken Russian along with delusional and propaganda of false failing communism and Stalinism. Also, out of all the Warsaw Pact nations, Poland was affected the least, I would say all the Russians did were build military bases, take advantage of Polish resources, and leave their economy shattered for the decade to come.

Also they were teaching about the short periods of American slavery? Really? All Western nations (including Russia) bear the burden of using slaves, but at least we didn't make it widespread by building labor camps and forcing millions to death in the Gulags which was obviously a death sentence with impossible workloads and conditions. The slaves here weren't executed daily, forced to work in below 30 degree Siberian colds and had their families purged and/or executed. Also I don't know whats so non racist about the Soviet Union, in both their great purges and all along the Stalinist years millions were exiled, sentenced to labor camps, or executed based on their ethnicity. Stalin believes a great nation was one with no foreigners whom according to him were wither traitors to the Russian way, spies, inferior with genes and/or productivity, or poisoning the culture. Poles, Ukrainians, Jews, Germans, Scandinavians, and all other Europeans living there were purged of this. As for the "respected" Poles, the 150,000 living in Stalinist Russia at the time were exiled in the 37'-39' purge and more or less 20,000 executed or sent to the Gulags by the NKVD for refusing to leave.

Life / Famous Polish music and musicians [48]

Ah yes, I love Chopin he is my idol! lol

A day doesn't go by where I don't listen to his music. Ballades, Polonaises, Ecossaisses, Waltzes, Impromptus, Etudes, Cantabile, Preludes, Concertos. This guy did them all! Surprisingly few composers in history manage this, and he also is considered the master of the piano by many!

Travel / Poland from a Persian Tourist's Perspective [269]

True story.. Check wikipedia. Ever wonder why they never teach you about the Persian Empire in school.. it's always the Greek Empire even though the Greeks plagiarized our technology for hundreds of years. .. Kinda weird uh? All humor aside.

you know as someone who is Greek and respects Persia a lot such simply isn't true. Wikipedia isn't a good history source and Greek and Persian historians put it best. The vast majority of Ancient Greek discoveries and technologies were before the Hellenic empire which was actually led and run by Macedonians and even before Persia became involved in anyway with Greece. To claim that a nation fully plagarized your things just because of a few similarities is very ethnocentric and uneducated sorry to say. Moreover could I not say the same with ancient Persia and ancient china in technology?

You should note that there are many Persians whom live in Greece today and that tensions are none. All great civilizations have had great contributions, ethnocentris

simply leads to all that discrimination your complaining about.

Yes, you look 'dumb like turk', lol

''dump like Greek'' is the correct sentence.

I'd say you have some Greek in you, or maybe some Roma.

Just because the guy has a tint of olive skin he's Turkish, Greek, or even Roma (whom are very dark)? I've seen tons of Poles with that skin tone, I am Greek and I have pale skin just as I have met many Turks with pal skin as well.

DariusTraveller

Yea as someone who studies world history tons, Italian, Greek, and French histories are almost always the most exaggerated in European history, it's also why those countries have more or less the most nationalists in Europe. Also I know what you mean about the Mediterranean looks. I too have been to Greece and Italy and there is the olive skin, dark eyes and hair almost on everyone you run into. But personally I never have seen it to surmount to racial trouble; or at least since the other Europeans might know they're Greco-Italian. But from what I've seen many ladies like it ;-). With me I am half Polish and half Greek so I never fully "fit in" in either country. I have the pale skin of a slav, and the dark hair, eyes, and facial features of a Mediterranean.

I also agree with the asian guy above me (are you Japanese? If so Konichiwa ^_^) that I liked the rural cities more than the main capital. While you are right Darius that the people in Warsaw are more educated and open to various people, citizens in the rural areas seemed more helpful and attentive...plus I like the Polish nature with renaissance style buildings more than I do the industrial areas. However! Note that when I say rural I mean the minor cities such as Wroclaw, Krakow, Zielawola, Gdansk, or Lublin. Not some middle in the no-where with hillbillies that will most likely from the stories I've heard discriminate against everyone that steps foot there. :-/

UK, Ireland / No job unless you're Polish [201]

manufacturer Forza AW

It's an Italian company, and with what poor management the UK gov't has on foreign firms I think it's our corporate leaders in Milan who have more of a say in this.

that would be The Daily Mail.

The lowest rated news source in the UK.

Poles work harder, more efficiently and effectively

Thanks Stalin, how many times have I heard you correlate labor with ethnicity? Poles might have the intent to work harder when they come to the UK with penny-cash in their pocket and only have small jobs to choose from, with no money for an education, to send back home as expected, or to live; they work their asses off to get those essentials, something which the UK citizen is born into. Not to mention most are on a time limited work/study visa.

50 million

Nope, 42 million. Wikipedia lies, I too change numbers for my own reasons on there. My source? The World Development Report of 2010 by the UN and World Bank supported by the CIA factbook.

Why on gods earth would an ENGLISH person who lives in ENGLAND who would like a job in a meat packing factory want to learn Polish? We speak ENGLISH in ENGLAND, no? The factory is based in ENGLAND.

Because it's owned by Italians who have seen (look above) that the Poles are much harder and efficient workers. They simply want the superior human resource for the maximum output of product. Supply-side economics.

Of course - you understand that the Poles are just a drop in the ocean comparing to the overall UK immigration

VERY true. Here in the US as well. It's come to the point where you have lame bias too. In the UK I see, but in Chicago I experience it. I keep hearing dumbasses saying how there's more Poles in Chicago than Warsaw (which obviously degrades polish immigrants and culture as being quick to leave their homeland). However if you look at the numbers in recorded population censuses by the state government (even acknowledged by the Polish American Society) A little over a quarter of the Poles in Warsaw are in the Chicagoland area. But STILL you have Chicagoans complaining about the too many Poles in the workforce and what not. When the puerto ricans, Italians, and Germans here greatly outnumber the Poles.

British people have not historically minded when others are forced to speak English and/or discriminated against in hiring if they don't.

It's called the British Empire....

You guys are f-ing missing the point!!!!!!!!!!!
MEAT PACKING FACTORY = SWEATSHOP

lol really? By the looks of it, it seems that it's for a fortune 500 job.....

The EU will be a distant memory in 25 years.

And so he says @_@

In each population there is the average(65%),the very competent(10%). ,the useless(10%)

Oh brother, you got that out of Karl Marx's works. Even in Mein Kampf Hitler pointed out that in every single human population there was a constant percentage that was "inferior" or as you say useless.

Travel / Poland from a Persian Tourist's Perspective [269]

I visited the University of Warsaw while I was there and it wasn't anything special, nice buildings but the level of education seemed like your average public school.

That might be offensive to some Poles since UWarsaw is the top in Poland. While it isn't world-class, they do have some outstanding programs such as their humanities program which ranks amongst the highest in Europe. Also, you shouldn't generalize. Private does not mean better than Public. Here in the US (where the vast majority of top schools reside) there are TONS of top ranked public schools, along with Crap loads of horrid private schools. Also you preach the Ivy League, when both for undergraduate and graduate studies they are still excellent, however they have lost their #1 ranking in most of the subjects they teach. Go figure. (ie, medicine is now Johns Hopkins, economics and biological sciences is now UChicago, Law is now Northwestern, engineering and technology is now MIT, physics is now Caltech, and so on)

If you like top schools come here to the University of Chicago. We have some of the best buildings and architectures than any other school in the US, and we have more Nobel laureates than any other institution in the world. (over a dozen of whom are current professors)

I'm a summer student there, during the year I go to Loyola University which is a neighboring school.

go to the World Health Organization website

lol, and I thought I was the only one spending hours looking at those numbers.

Life / Racism in Poland - the future [441]

i think it's all good as long as everybody get's discriminated equally. :D

Worst logic.....ever. lol

greeks

I am half-greek living in the US and have never dealt with a single racist comment (some jokes) but that's all. Nor have I met a Greek-American whom by any means hates other Americans.

Yeah, right. Mr. & Mrs. Utopia

You can laugh at Utopia, but Thomas More had a grand solution in there about racism....

Stalin installed many Jews in high level positions throughout Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, etc because he knew the communist Jews were more loyal to the Soviet movement then the countries they lived in.

Stalin? A friend of the Jews? Is that a joke.....
I see his propaganda is still brainwashing minds over half a century later...

Well you know, in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, over 95% of the people that live in these areas are of the ethnicity that correlate to the area....

ie, you might think of Japan as one, but 98.5% of the Japanese population....is Japanese.

The rest are mostly Korean and Chinese immigrants.
