Australia / Thinking about moving to Australia [39]

have you been here your whole life?

yes, although I know Poland like the back of my hand, I hope you weren't flooded out in the last few days or you computor wasn't infected if you were with bigpond, I suppose with these dramas it makes life more interesting. I wonder if you agree with most poles living in this great land, that it is a land of milk and honey, or for people a bit younger a land of wine, women and song or for the more cultured, a land of fine food, good wine and a great place to live. hmmm Poland not is bad also except for the cold weather.

Law / The 'Secret' of Poland's Economic Success [83]

Its nice to see people speak of Poland economic success, and three cheers for the rank and file but could somebody explain this article, something does not add up,

Hundreds of billions lacking for pensions8th March 2010

The government will have to assist the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) in paying out pensions in the coming years, the institution has announced. Over the next five years, ZUS might require as much as zł.350 billion.

ZUS added that the worst possible scenario would see the government forking out as much as zł.83 billion a year. Just three years ago, the institution announced that it would require a maximum of zł.184 billion in funds for the 2008-2012 period. (RG)

Work / Average monthly salary in Poland is around 1000 PLN (few hundred bucks). [387]

I'm also not sure why people seem to think that living in a small flat is somehow symbolic of Poland being backwards - do you really think most people in London are living in mansions?

not all people live in a small flat and a lot of people living in Poland are living in better, bigger and better homes than those in GB, I suppose the bottom line is that some poles are very well off, but most struggle, I don't think somebody is going to employ a pensioner...!!, doing what may I suggest.

average net salaries are between 1500 and 3000 zlotys per month

You would think that people who seem to know everything on this forum would be able to provide accurate information about wages in poland, my friend is a truck driver clears 950zl a month but gets a cash bonus if he works overtime. I know a person who works as a teller in a bank gets 1600zl gross per month. I know that age pensioners get around 850 zl a month.

maybe a few...but a lot of vaccines these days.

when was the last time you come across a deadly spider? Can I suggest Never.

i wear a warm jacket and gloves during winter at night...but im soft.

Central Melbourne, Winter spans about 4 months, you might have a chilly morning but barley charlie King Sobieski are you a man or a mouse!!.. lol.. In actual fact I don't own a overcoat, gloves or winter boots, We might have a cold spell of zero temperature, but nothing like the minus 20 plus in Poland. I agree if you live in the mountain country it can get pretty cold, it brings me to the point that you could in one day spend time swimming in the beach and the rest of the time skiing in the snow.

Life / Why Do You Love Poland? [907]

That probably sums it up, they need to relax more and not think everyone is out to rip them off. Theres more to life than hitting the bottle and then spend the rest of the time complaining.

Love / They seem nice, but could Polish girls be "gold diggers"? [196]

Most gold-diggers have a very low IQ

Thats just not true, Gold diggers come in all shape and sizes, as a matter of interest the greatest gold digger was the following person, have you heard of Johnson and Johnson, you have have used its baby powder when a you were young, this may surprise you, hmmm,

Piasecka Johnson was born in Poland. Her father was a farmer.[1][2] She graduated from Wroclaw University with a M.A. in Art History. She left Poland in 1968, with just $100.[3]

Piasecka Johnson was hired as a cook hired by Esther Underwood Johnson, then wife of John Seward Johnson I. Her cooking was terrible though, so she switched jobs with the Johnson's chambermaid.[4][5]

UK, Ireland / Time for the Poles from the UK to go home [437]

I agree Poles should return to Poland and make it a great country rather than work in western Europe for minimum wage.

What sort of nonsense talk is this, are we going to start a slinging match between the Poles and the Brits, if I accepted your argument I could say all Brits and people from Ireland should return home and make there country more better, come on get a life will you Orzelbialy.

Australia / Thinking about moving to Australia [39]

I think a lot of people have been brainwashed by the song "There was red back on the toilet seat" etc by Slim Dusty.. lets face it how many people have been killed by spider or snake bites??

If you live in the mountain areas it can get in the minus degrees, Its nothing like Poland, I've never worn a overcoat or gloves.

yes, can honestly say I've never been worried about spiders and snakes, only time I've seen a snake was at the zoo, lets be honest about it Melbourne is the sports capital of the

world ie, cricket, tennis, golf, motor car and motorcycle racing, surfing etc, Australia is a big big country, Best place for wine lovers.
Like I say people who haven't been to this great land, just don't know.
The thing about living in Europe is that your living in a fridge for 6 months of the year.

Australia / Thinking about moving to Australia [39]

I suppose troll appear in various forms, Any person who knocks Australia is either hard to please or hasn't been there, Melbourne is No 3 on the list of the most livable cities in the world (where did Warsaw come in as?) Warm weather, fine food and a great way of life with plenty to do, it must beat being indoors for 6 months of the year.

Talk of snakes and spiders etc was a ploy used by the communists to scare people to moving elsewhere. Hoon drivers are everywhere including Poland.

USA, Canada / Moving back from Canada to Poland, yes or no? [39]

There are over 40,000 muslims in Poland now, which doubled since 10 years ago.

me thinks this is going on in every country in the world including the USA, the bottom line is you need to try it to get it out of your system and you have to do it because you have to do it. I don't believe finding work in Poland is not as easy as some make out and opting for a low paid job will not bring in a good lifestyle, you need to think how you are going to pay the rent, food and heating costs etc. If you have it good now, I doubt moving to Poland will better things, but I could be wrong.

Real Estate / Flat prices in Gdansk Old town? [21]

I just bought a really nice house in NC for $149K. I don't need to tell you what you get in Poland for that money.

you might get a run down apartment in the worst street in town, don't forget Poland is not the USA, only the rich can purchase in Poland.

Love / They seem nice, but could Polish girls be "gold diggers"? [196]

Let the buyer beware or in the case of picking up a foreign girl, you get for what you pay for, the simply reality is that a attractive girl is not going to fall over backwards because the prince in her life comes from the west, no no its the money, I might add that Russian girls are the worse for that, they are ruthless, after marriage is give, give and give then pay, pay and pay.

Work / Why Poland employers are afraid of hiring any foreign nationals? [171]

beezebud, try to think outside the square, think about what I say and then make a rational comment without insults, the point being most Polish students prefer a local Pole that some person teaching with a accent which nobody can understand, lets face it you will never really pick up a language unless your using it full time away from your environs ie living in GB/Ireland etc. Sorry but thats life.

PS Most foreign teachers in Poland are just drop outs who couldn't find work in there own country.

Work / Why Poland employers are afraid of hiring any foreign nationals? [171]

I agree that Polish nationals are better teachers in the English language than those from the UK/ Ireland etc, the point being that Polish nationals are better able to link the Polish student into the English language, teachers who have come from Ireland/UK are arrogant and think they know everything, they are barely able to put two words of Polish together, further they knock and criticize everything Polish, I know of one school where the Irish teacher was given his marching orders and students threw rotten eggs at him when he left in a haste.

Sadly Polish nationals earn less that the imports. it should be the reverse.

Not saying there are some good Irish teachers etc.

Real Estate / Apartments too expensive for Poles living in Poland [54]

no need for this type of language on this forum, what are you trying to say? The housing/real estate market is what people are prepared to pay for a property, have you got actual figures of what prices have been paid for homes/apartments, not the advertised price?

Law / The 'Secret' of Poland's Economic Success [83]

Positive news...Shows that Kaczynski does something right, or at least stays out of way on certain economic matters...What is Polish foreign debt?

your comments may go down well with the village idiot, but you may want to explain what has this government done so right, just look at the state of the hospital system, low wages, and housing affordability, the list goes on.

Life / 3 reasons why you hate Poland. [1049]

3. I am tired of hearing from Poles how every important event throughout human history was because of a Pole. You would think they invented the Earth as much as they take credit for things.

Poles have a habit of gilding the lily, however there have been great Poles who have done great things. I might add that Americans love to idolise there own.

Real Estate / Apartments too expensive for Poles living in Poland [54]

I believe you have misinterpreted the information but the artical is so badly written I have trouble myself fully understanding it.
I think the first problem is it just pushes figures and doesn't compare them to anything else.

Thanks for your input SeanBM, I suppose you can never trust what newspapers tell us nor can you trust how they get their information, I suppose we can gleam from the article is that some Poles are not able to enter the Real Estate market as it is priced beyond their means, this is happening everywhere not only in Poland.

I personally think that Poles are underpaid and that Homes and Apartments are overpriced.
Something will have to give, I don't believe Poles will be taking in more income in the foreseeable future, it could be less with Unemployment on the increase.

Real Estate / Apartments too expensive for Poles living in Poland [54]

As many as twenty percent of Poles who were planning to buy an apartment in 2009 abandoned the idea, shows a report by Gfk Polonia and Nowy Adres.

Almost 40 percent of potential buyers resigned from buying an apartment last year because of high prices, even though real estate prices dropped slightly during the economic crisis.

Twenty-three percent of people mentioned high interest rates of mortgage loans as an obstacle to purchase their own apartment, 19 percent did not buy because they were refused a mortgage and 14 percent because they were afraid of losing a job and not being able to pay back a loan.

"Apartments in Poland are still too expensive and most Poles cannot afford them," says Katarzyna Cyprynowska from Nowy Adres, a real estate market analysis firm which co-wrote the report based on a survey conducted among 1,500 Poles. (mg/mmj)

I suppose 80% are ready to purchase! come on the Property rise!

Life / Warsaw - what's there to love? Semi-livable city? [33]

[Moved from]: Warsaw is Semi Liveable.

Warsaw is 'semi-liveable' says ranking

11.02.2010 14:37

Warsaw places in the middle of a ranking of the world's most livable cities, released by the Economist Intelligence Unit.

With a score of 78 percent, Poland's capital is placed 71st in the global livability survey of 140 cities.

Each of the cities was assigned a score for over 30 factors across five broad categories: stability, health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure. Warsaw got the lowest rating in the health care and education categories.

But as the future co-host to the European Football Championship (alongside Ukraine), Warsaw scored relatively well in areas important to visitors to the event, with stability, infrastructure, and culture and the environment all scoring 80 percent or more. Kiev lies 91st in the ranking, the EIU release says.

In terms of tourist attractions, Warsaw is behind Budapest (regarded as the most attractive city in Central Europe) as well as Prague, Bratislava, St. Petersburg and Moscow.

Vancouver continues to top the ranking with a score of 98 percent, followed by Vienna and Melbourne

.....It is interesting to note that Warsaw is so low on the list, I'm sure some forum members would disagree?
