News / European News and Poland Thread 3 [1017]

Was there a POW camp for those who were caught killing Brits?

Yes. But also people who were simply suspected of something or other.

To understand Irish political debate you need to start around the fifth century or if you want to fast forward a few hundred years you could start with the split between the northern and southern O'Neills. Or you could visit one of the many forums devoted to Irish matters.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2810]

I don't think anyone is advocating for more bombs in Poland. No one appears to be advocating to relax safety laws in Poland either if they are they are quite invisible.

People appear to be content with the present system, those who want a gun can apply for a permit. I don't see the problem. People who want a gun and want it now! would appear to be a bit suspect.

@johnny reb
I live in Ireland and I can tell you that if there were more guns nothing would have changed except more dead civilians.

Now you can frame a question in many ways but its rare to frame one in such an egregiously stupid fashion.

Did I say it was a pressing need or desire? No

And I didnt say you did.

I have read the entire thread and your ( by definition unverified) upload idea is insane but I was too kind to point it out but feel perfectly free to flex your muscle.

just paranoid.

I would go with that...Not one of my US family or friends is as paranoid as some here

@PolAmKrakow
How many political manifestos in Poland have a clause advocating wider gun ownership?

I dont think its a pressing issue for many political parties or electors. The reasons presented here by our American cousins all revolve around bad B movie scripts.

In Poland and Europe generally, there is no call to loosen safety laws

Off-Topic / Leftist idiocy rampant in the West [470]

Would you ever **** off with your racist ****...

migrants-refugees.va/country-profile/ireland/#:~:text=The%20majority%20of%20immigrants%20come,Latvia%2C%20and%20the%20Czech%20Republic.

The 2016 census states that the first three non-Irish nationalities resident in Ireland were Polish, UK and Lithuanian, followed by Romanian (29,186), Latvian (19,933), Brazilian (13,640), Spanish (12,112), Italian (11,732), French (11,661), and German (11,531). In addition, there were 20,969 people from India and 12,891 from Pakistan. However, the top countries of origin for non-EU migrants are Australia, Canada and the United States.

Almost 60% of these people have a third level qualification.

And thats only the 26 counties...

At the moment there is a concerted effort by a bunch of racist scum mostly from the US and the UK to stir up trouble in Ireland...Good luck with that it aint gonna happen.

UK, Ireland / Is it good for Poland as Sinn Fein will win today in Northen Ireland [269]

Is there anything in the new deal that hasn't been on the table since 2018 or so?

Not really, the EU has real time access to British trading databases something promised previously but never implemented by the UK. Green and red lanes were offered by the EU over a year ago and so on. The difference is that there now appears to be grown-ups in London who have realised that a semi permanent "war" with the EU is in on ones interests.

The ball is now in the DUP's court...

Life / Owning a house in true countryside of Poland - stories [579]

@gumishu
I do that with leeks as well. A clamp helps protect root veg from the frost there is nothing worse than loosing all your spuds.

@Feniks
I also googled clamp a few years back and was surprised to find it has Dutch roots. The reason I searched was that I always thought it was an Irish thing also discovered that scallion is not Irish either :(

History / Life in communist Poland - personal relations [397]

What about other needs?? I hated communism.......

Walking through a small forest my mucker (there's a word) said that at school the kids had to stand up and say what their fathers did. He always felt really humiliated having to do that.

More people have been massacred in Poland than have been in the United States

The estimated deaths during the US (native population) genocide range up to fifteen million however we will never know because you never bothered counting the dead.

Its improbable that you have any figures to back up your claim

You just defend your uneducated position with more babble that's already been covered

That is exactly what you are doing, there is no desire as far as I can see to turn Poland into the US.

You want a gun on demand go live in the US... Poland love it or leave it

What if someone wants to take up skeet shooting?

I don't see where the application of rigid safety laws would impact upon that one bit. The other examples you gave are in fact an argument for maintaining Polish safety laws ie no hand guns no automatic/semi automatic weapons and no adaptors.

I knew a man from the bar nicknamed Pidgin who was shot on two, possibly three separate occasions so naturally he was re-nicknamed Clay. He could have been armed to the teeth and it would have made no difference.

History / Recommended Poland's history books [176]

It is, by and large, a theological question not a political/economic one.

I disagree, and would suggest that confessional allegiance is incidental however I dont want to drive the thread further off topic.

UK, Ireland / Is it good for Poland as Sinn Fein will win today in Northen Ireland [269]

why should EU will be willing to change anything?

In October last year the EU proposed several changes to the protocol including red and green lanes for goods going to the 26 counties, the UK have yet to respond. The vast majority of elected representatives in the six counties support the agreement. The vast majority of UK MPs also voted to adopt the agreement.

The EU have shown themselves to be flexible they want a mature trading relationship with all third party countries and are awaiting a reply.

UK, Ireland / Boris Johnson - is the new British PM a popular figure in Poland? [150]

The irish government was a massive pain in the neck and being as obstructionist as possible.

Expecting a partner to an international treaty to abide by that treaty is not obstructionist. Brexit and the Belfast agreement are largely incompatible, It was the UK government's responsibility to square the circle.

Edit
Every attempt to address the problem was dismissed by Johnston and co on his self serving journey to the top

@Atch
Sinn Fein are well ahead in the polls, they topped the polls in the last general election but failed to stand enough candidates, their lead has been consistent for years it wasn't a protest vote. In a multi seat PR election they probably will be the largest party possibly having enough TDs to govern without coalition.

The documented corruption of FF and FG though not on a Mexican level is still proportional to the size and location of the country.

The impact on Poland will revolve around how they use their EU veto to achieve unity. The EU had Irelands back over Brexit and everyone saw that clearly.
