History / Prophesy - Poland from sea to sea. [57]

Well, the Internet is a place when I can say what I want without such trivia as social niceties and a human factor.

This statement is pretty sad. Just because you can hide behind the screen it doesn't mean that you can forget about decent, social behavior. Fortunately, not all people think like that.

Life / Bugs in Polish houses and apartments [78]

When in NYC, US, I was shocked seeing giant cockroaches roaming the apartment I rented.

They are even bigger in Florida!
The only insects I see in my place are little fruit flies, but it is because I 'feed' them with a bowl of fruit standing on a kitchen counter. Occasionally, I also see silverfish in my bathroom, especially after it rains for a couple of days and I guess they hatch in the slab basement. In the fall, I usually 'fight' with spiders, they really want to move in with me for the winter so I spray their favorite corners with 'Hot Shot' and it seems to help a lot.

I never lived in a place which would have roaches, they are nasty!

Food / Any czernina fans on PF? [23]

I had czernina when I was maybe 15-16 years old and did not like it. My mama never made it but my two brothers married into families who did. Tried the soup in both places.

My friend in Chicago actually have the same question as you Polonius. She loves czrnina and would like to make it at home but can't find a place where she can get duck's blood...

It would be great if somebody knew it.

Life / Things we enjoyed as kids in Poland [140]

And then, what happened?

I left for the USA...heard many scary stories, news etc and no longer wanted to walk alone at night. Why challenge my luck and put myself in any dangerous situation in Chicago?

There isn't a week going by when we hear on the news about a girl/woman being attacked when walking alone, especially at night. Too many weirdos out there.

Since I live in the suburbs for well over a decade I can keep my windows open at night and feel safe but I still would not want to take a walk all alone at 10 pm.

Life / Things we enjoyed as kids in Poland [140]

I enjoyed walking at night without fear that somebody is going to hurt me in any way...pedofiles waiting to snatch me and rape me? I don't think I knew the word for that...rape? what's that? It felt good to roam around and feel safe.

Po polsku / Genetycznie zakodowana swarliwość wśród Polaków? [19]

Life / How to Politely Refuse a Drink in Poland [72]

Save the room in your stomach for all the delicious Polish food, instead of booze...

Exactly! Eat and dance to burn the calories! It's a pretty nice restaurant the wedding is at, so the food should be DELICIOSO! :)

Good girl. Otherwise you'd be under the table in no time. I see that the drinking a toast tradition is still alive and well.. :)

I have a polish wedding to go to this Saturday. I'm looking forward to it, it's going to be a lot of fun and i will definitely use your trick. I just want to dance..and dance..and dance (without falling).. :)

Life / Before 1980 family in Poland was friendly towards immigrants; now they are not [11]

I call my parents twice a week or they call me a few times per week

Good man.

A friend of mine is going to Poland for the first time after 20 years. She is so anxious, can't sleep at night and still another week until her departure... Of course she is aware of the changes but did not see her family face to face for so long.

Her mama was here a couple of times, but not the rest of her family.

That's a pretty sad story. Granted, they don't need you now as they needed you then. I also went through sending packages filled with a variety of goods they asked for.

I stopped doing that for the last 15 years or so, but I still have a great relationship with my family. We keep in touch via Skype or telephone as often as possible. If you don't do that once in while it is easy to get 'disconnected' and become a stranger to your family.

USA, Canada / Anna & Patryk on America's got talent [5]

They did not come through. Oh well, they are very young and will have another chance. It looks like Jackie Evancho got the most votes. I'm not surprised, this kid had the most beautiful, angelic voice, a fully deserved win.

Genealogy / Mixed-Blood Poles in America (Do we count?) [118]

What would poles/polonia say? That's what I'm interested in hearing.

I think Polonia would be curious of you, especially if you started to speak some polish. Being brought up in a polish household, I suppose you developed a taste for pierogi and polish sausage, right? :) Have you ever been to any polish deli shopping? I'm sure there could be some puzzled looks, here and there but I can tell you - they would like it. Don't believe all the stuff you read here.

He didn't exactly say his dad was Polish.

If you knew what West Englewood neighborhood is in Chicago, you'd know that his father was not polish... :) I can assure you of that wolfie. Besides, I'd love to hear any of his childhood stories, if he had them.

My Mom's from Jefferson Park. My Dad's from West Englewood.

Food / Electric Grilling - I highly recommend it :) [30]

The summer is almost over and the two of you are heavy into a grilling discussion. :)
I don't think I know anyone who does not like the BBQ flavor. People do amazing stuff on the grill: mushrooms (portabella), veggies, fish...besides the usual burgers and dogs.

They are all heaven on the palate.

damn some of those people look really dorky.

lol. Don't you like the look of my 'boyfriend' ? A couple of them actually, one had a really good time doing some dorky dancing and another one had this very scruffy-looking beard and wore a very colorful shirt from another era..adorable.

USA, Canada / Anna & Patryk on America's got talent [5]

The two are kids of polish immigrants in new York and are in the top 10. I just finished watching the show on NBC. I hope they get enough votes during the next couple of hours.

Anna tripped on the stairs coming down the stairs but started to dance like nothing happened, however she barely held her tears at the end. I felt so bad for her. She is only a 12 years old kid after all...I voted and wish them the best. You may call or text.

I bought the Weber baby Q and i am very happy with it. I used to buy the cheap grills and they never lasted more than one summer, this one is 'working' for the 3rd summer already and still not a speckle of rust. Love it.

It was fun to be there again...the Grazyna Auguscik concert was disappinting. I guess I'm not into this kind of music.
Not into 'brittish invasion' either. Hehehehe.
