News / Why Poland has no problem with terrorism [64]

Merged:

Why are there terror attacks in Europe?

This includes the potential threat to Poland and Poland sending soldiers.

The legality of the invasion and occupation of Iraq has been widely debated since the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Poland and a coalition of other countries launched the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The then United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan said in September 2004 that: "From our point of view and the UN Charter point of view, it [the war] was illegal."

I watched a very interesting documentary called 'Shadow World', it's about the weapon's industry.

It seems to me all media outlets are avoiding the question of why there are terror attacks in Europe.

Real Estate / Can foreigner buy apartment in Warsaw, Poland? [39]

Basically someone owns the apartment block/building

That only makes sense if the 'someone' is an entity like a spoldzielnia.

Even then it'd be mad not to have written contract.

If not I have a car your friends can 'buy' ;-)

Real Estate / Can foreigner buy apartment in Warsaw, Poland? [39]

Smurf: My mates paid about 10,000 (not sure about the others as I never asked) and their rent is small too.

Is this a "community" flat?
It kinda has to be unless they are related.
There would have to be a contract, no body's that stupid... are they?

Life / Public Masturbation now allowed in Sweden, Would this work in Poland? [43]

A COURT IN Sweden has found a man who masturbated in public not guilty of criminal charges, as he was not pleasuring himself at anyone in particular.
The ruling comes after a 65-year-old man took off his shorts and began masturbating on a beach in Stockholm.
He was charged with sexual assault, but found innocent last week as his act was not "targeted", The Local reports.

What about indecent exposure? must have been decent enough.

Life / Why are Poles always so miserable? Why do they never smile? [512]

Polish people smile with their eyes.

I read this recenty:

Emoticons

Chinese & Japanese emoticons are like this: ^_^ (happy) and ;_; (sad) rather than this: :) and :( because they use the eyes rather than the mouth when reading someone's emotional state.

Life / Advocating euthanasia routinely causes scandals in Poland... [63]

you gotta love PF, someone calls modern Poland pre~war Germany based on this internet forum and I get called a troll for finding it funny that the same guy who is against euthanasia saying he couldnt live in a world that allowed it.

as for the topic, I think its very much one of those issues that we all become pseudo philosiphers but when you are in on going agonizing pain, it is totally different.

If you take a look at what critera is needed to preform euthanasia in the neatherlands, you would realize it is not some Alice in wonderland Queen screaming "off with his head!" but there is no point discussing matters that people do not want to hear, better call me a troll and be content with you being right.

History / Life in communist Poland - personal relations [413]

They could have problems at their workplaces.

What kind of problems would the communist party make for those people who did not attend their parades?

Just to clarify, I am asking about life in communism in general, not specifically about your parents.

A document on homelss in communism

Thank you for the link, I will watch it.

Blue birds is from the Bible.

I must have missed that particular Sunday lesson.

Taken at night when decent Poles used to stay in, watching TV and getting ready to bed.

But if they were to attract people (decent or otherwise) at night, where are the people? I just thought it was odd.

Some guys think different. :):):)

Ah sure PF is definitely a Love/Hate relationship :)
Well I for one enjoy your posts and pictures.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

This basically states my opinion on the subject of the Abortions:

Comparing Nazis killing Jews to abortion seems to be the oldest trick in the manipulation book. Godwin's law in full effect.

In Nazi Germany, the penalties for abortion were increased again. From 1943, the provision of abortion to "Aryan" women was threatened with the death penalty.

History / Life in communist Poland - personal relations [413]

A few years later parents told me they had to go.

(from your last post on the first page of this thread.)

What would have happened if they did not attend?

The communist police called militia took care of it - the streets had to be clean - communism couldn`t have homeless people

What did they do with them?

Exactly. those who shun work were called blue birds.

Why? I only know the reference to blue birds in North America, it symbolises happiness but this is the first time I've heard about it as a phrase in Europe.

I still remember giant neon ads in Krakow

With everyone working and the communist police taking care of the homeless, there are no people left on the streets of the photos you posted :)

Good to see you're back Pawian, this place isn't the same without you.

They still sell milk in bags in Lithuania.

Pawian, what do you think of communism being used in advertisements?

kresy24.pl/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Lenin-reklama.jpg

given Poland's history it seems ridiculous to me to use such icons to sell things but perhaps Poles see the irony better than me, of using the symbols of communism to sell products?

That would also explain USA affair with wars... Sexually unfulfilled men are always looking for trouble... ;)

Ah come on, that's not fair it doesn't explain the few years that they didn't have a major war ;p

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

.How could this possibly be a punishment?

If you force someone to do something against their will because you believe they should pay the penalty for their actions, that is a punishment.

Sperm is also "alive", the goal posts change position with our understanding.

Food / Goose meat anyone in Poland? [20]

What happened to the custom fo roast goose on Martinmas?

They probably sell it for relatively exorbitant prices and buy many of the really great pork, turkey or chicken meats.

And why wouldn't they?

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

abortion rates are similar in countries where the procedure is legal and in countries where it is not according to the World Health Organization

WHO

There are more but well links saying the same thing but I'm really just repeating myself now.

I try not to post unless I have something new to say but since it has been brought up again.

Why? which numbers are you talking about?

In the U.S.:
Number of abortions per year: Approximately 42 Million
Number of abortions per day: Approximately 115,000

If it's assured that the baby will be provided for

Are you talking about 'IF' the father wants the child?
I don't know how orphans are in the U.S. but here in Poland, it's very difficult to adopt.
I know a few couples who have been on the waiting list for years.

I do not believe that abortion should be ok if it is because of carelessness.

This sounds like you want to punish some people. You can't say some can have abortions because they say their contraception didn't work and punish others who were stupid.

I know and he has a very good point.
Banning things does nothing except put more people's lives at risk and drives it underground in to the hands of organised criminals.
It's been posted already, but just because countries make it ilegal does not change the amount of abortions taking place, either illegally or in neighbouring countries.

It applies to all countries not just the U.S.

So although she had a miscarriage, the fetus still had a heartbeat,
Irish law allows abortions if it threatens the mother's life, this was not even an abortion as she already had the miscarriage.

I don't want to jump to conclusions, maybe I already have? but we should really wait for the results of the investigation.

Life / The "I am never wrong" phenom - is it the Polish thing? [63]

Its especially wierd when you come from England, here we blame ourselves for other peoples mistakes, the classic, some fool walks into you with their head down at their iphone and YOU say sorry to them...

Yeah same in Ireland not here though:

I see a lot of younger people here giving up their seat for elderly or infirm individuals on trams and sometimes on buses.

I too see this often, it's really very nice.

Will they do the fandango?
Thunderbolts of lightning.... very very frightening.

I'm neither Latino or from the Americas and I have to beat the chicks off with my stick.

So eh yeah, circumcision... cutting a piece of skin off a baby boy's penis.

Life / Why is circumcision not practiced in Poland? [701]

You know I like to provoke (thoughts I hope) but if you thought the skin cream thing was a bit much... ever eat Kellogg cornflakes?

We know John Harvey Kellogg as the founder of the Kellogg's cereal company and the inventor of corn flakes. However, around the turn of the 20th century, Kellogg became renowned for his work as an anti-masturbation crusader, prescribing unusual - and borderline sadistic - solutions to the menace of young boys and girls touching their privates.

hypervocal/news/2012/corn-flakes-inventor-john-kellogg-wanted-to-sew-your-foreskin-with-silver-wire

A remedy which is almost always successful in small boys is circumcision, especially when there is any degree of phimosis. The operation should be performed by a surgeon without administering an anesthetic, as the brief pain attending the operation will have a salutary effect upon the mind, especially if it be connected with the idea of punishment, as it may well be in some cases. The soreness which continues for several weeks interrupts the practice, and if it had not previously become too firmly fixed, it may be forgotten and not resumed.

The best thing I have seen on this topic are the great Penn & Teller on Circumcision:

That's almost but not quite as horrifying as the answer Yahoo has:

the doctors in American they sell it on to grow skin graft material
or to the cosmetic industry but they can only do this with baby foreskins which is why they push stupid gullible mothers into doing this pointless operation

literally rub it in their faces.

I thought they did it for free but just kept the tips:)

Life / Blasphemy not OK in Poland! [54]

polonius, extreme PC is exactly not being allowed to say certain things because it may offend people.
As for ********** , this work is not intended to denounce religion, it alludes to a perceived commercializing or cheapening of Christian icons in contemporary culture. (the artists words not mine)

again fiting your views stated.

if you want to be seen as a man of depth, you should look beneath the surface.

It’s now very common to hear people say, “I’m rather offended by that,”
as if that gives them certain rights. It’s simply a whine.
It’s no more than a whine.
It has no meaning, it has no purpose, it has no reason to be respected as a phrase -
“I’m so offended by that.”
Well, so ******* what?
