Love / Polish Pet Names For Girls. [156]

It's the ending of the word that makes it "a little" (for example -ko). In Polish much more things are determined by which ending being used on the word than in English. Moja means "my" (for nouns of feminine gender in the nominative case).

The words above are used as "nicknames". But in normal language if you see a small cat on the street you say "mały kot", in this case the word mały (=small) determines that it's a small cat.

Polonia / Polish workers in Denmark [41]

It all depends on if you choose a good or bad company. I'm from Sweden, and I know that there are a lot of both good and bad Scandinavian companies that hire Polish people. The best thing is to ask other people who worked for the company how it was.

I really feel sorry for people who were treated badly when working abroad. Unfortunately there are cowards in all countries that abuse foreign workers. Normal people must show that this is not acceptable.

Love / Polish women are the most beautiful in the world! [1718]

This thread shows the obvious, that different people like different kind of woman.

When I compare my preferences with my friends', we can see that it differs more from person to person then we think. Beauty is not so easy to define.

Life / Gypsies or Roma: European and Polish attitudes towards [87]

There are few people who are so racist and disrespectful as the gypsies. Of course you can find some individual gypsies that are good persons. But their culture is one of the few in the world that I have no respect for at all. How they treat their own children is horrible as well.

Po polsku / Nazywam się Jade i mieszkam w Anglii. [37]

Och... kocham lody!

Cześć!

Też myślę, że lody są świetne!

Piszesz dobrze po polsku. To jest trudny język, ale staramy się.

Polecam "Colloquial Polish: The Complete Course for Beginners" (B. Mazur) i "301 Polish verbs" (K. Janecki).

Powodzenia!

I would not. I think the latest book is dreadful!

I like that it's straight forward. Some books treat you like a child or repeating the same things page after page until you feel that you read 10 pages and they all say the same. And Lody seems to learn things fast.

Life / Orphanages in Poland [82]

I used to come to Poland twice a year to bring truckloads of toys , books , computers , clothes , and money to a childrens home in Poland

I am also very impressed of your admirable work.

Some of my friends actually arranged a fashion show in the Polish city where I live. From that event they managed to donate 10 000 zl to an orphanage here. It's always fun when people can contribute to a better life for poor and helpless children.

Life / Orphanages in Poland [82]

I don't have any statistics, but I pretty sure it's not common that Polish parents leave their children to orphanages, or on the street, to work abroad. It sounds kind of ridiculous. That they leave them to their grandparents etc. for some time is something totally different.

Law / POLISH BEER IMPORT TO UK [37]

I guess it's more difficult and more paperwork needed to get permission for import of alcoholic beverages.

space in the market

There can never be to much Zywiec around. ;) Tyskie, on the other hand, is more difficult to understand why people like so much.

Love / Polish Pet Names For Girls. [156]

What does cipko mean in english?

What girls have between their legs. In the vocative grammatical case. It's cipka in the nominiative (basic) case.
Best to avoid, especially in the vocative case.

Language / Nice Polish words to say to a girl [147]

najpiękniejsza

It's the superlative form of piękna. So, it means "the most beautiful".

Edit: too late again... hehe.

Language / Can accidentally using the wrong gender form cause offence? [26]

I'm not really aware of Polish nouns with dual gender which can mean something different or 'offensive' if used incorrectly.

Maybe not nouns. But there are other issues with genders. Constructions with Pani to a man is probably not recommended. I guess they hear if someone is learning Polish. Once I said "Proszę Pani!" to a man by misstake, he laughed a little. :)

Cheers mate!

"God morgon! Hur har fru doktor det?"

We have something very similar to Pan/Pani, or German 'Sie' (used as formal singular). But it's rarely used these days.

"God Morgon Doktorn! Hur har Ni det?"

Where Ni is formal version of Du (but still in singular!). Usually, Ni means you in plural. But it can also mean 'you' in formal singular. Not everyone learning Swedish knows this. It sounds old-fashioned and is rarely used.

"Good morning, doctor! How is doctor today?"

You should use "bestämd form" doktorn in both cases above. And some old people can use this kind of expression from time to time. In 25 years it will probably not exist anymore. If a young person says it sounds very sarcastic.

Thanks, she's doing quite well.

But you don't answer about yourself in 3rd person. I think you could have done it 50 years ago. But these days only people with schizophrenia sometimes talk about themselves in 3rd person, like in other countries as well. Actually I don't know any language where you answer about yourself in 3rd person.

Love / Polish women are the most beautiful in the world! [1718]

Take a look at Polish actress & model, Joanna Pacula. It's hard to believe she's almost 53 years old.

She looks very good for her age, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is some lifting or botox involved.

After having lived in Sweden for a year, I have to say your wrong....

I would say it's pretty much equal. But Polish girls have, generally, better bodies than Swedes.

Language / Polish Swear Words [1242]

. when you are annoyed (ex. Ja pierdolę... mówiłem Ci tyle razy!),

This is probably one of the most commonly used meanings of pierdolić. Also in combination with other swear words.

Love / Polish women are the most beautiful in the world! [1718]

i thought that we established already that (title) it's bs and beautiful women are in every country... it depends on personal preference... so move on and don't carry on... :)

Of course you're right, but these kinds of discussions never end.
