Basically when someone does something (ie: eat dinner on the couch) and then you try doing the same, the person will tell you this. Maybe translates to something like this: What i can do you can't. Or just because i can do it doesnt mean u can. Bah i dunno.

In english literature he is known as being polish - this is what they teach here in canada at least. He (like all academics in europe at the time) published his work in latin and there is very little evidence of what language he spoke, polish, german or maybe both. Back in the late 15th c. - early 16th c. nationality was not very important yet, religion was. In poland some cities had germans who were loyal to the polish crown and some who were eventually assimilated in polish society. This happened everywhere in europe btw. It's possible that kopernik was a polonized german or maybe native german or maybe a native pole. There's no way to find out!

I find it interesting how many users on this forum say that poles are mostly dark haired. I travel to poland often and generally i would say that most poles' hair colours range from various shades of blonde to light-medium brown. German highways are great. I had the time of my life rippin' up and down the autobahn in a rented opel vectra. I was the fastest car on the road. Do germans not drive inexcessive speeds on these roads (200-220km/hr)?? No one ever got in my way and if there was a car in the left lane it would always move to the right if they saw me coming from behind - germans actually use their rear view mirrors. Here in canada i always have to honk or flash my lights at sunday drivers in the left lane.

This is true seanus. I am more familiar with Chinese customs though as they are a large ethnic group in Toronto (and area). I've noticed that they do not like to show any kind of emotion (always have a neutral face). They do not like to "small talk" and, like poles in poland, don't say "hello, how are you" when entering a store/restaurant. I can see how some foreigners could see poles as being rude, for many different=rude.

Yes there are. I suggest you look for a polish cultural centre (free of charge thanks to tax payers - scandalous imo) or check some colleges in your area - many have evening classes for foreign languages (you will have to pay for this). It may be tough finding polish language courses in the maritime provinces though.
