Life / Poles are not racist [873]

I am not racist, I hate everyone, equally.
I happen to think everyone is racist, we judge people, of course it does not go as far as slavery or genocide, does it?
I also think there are not enough nonPolish in Poland for me to see how racist Poles are, but I have had no personal bad experiences in Poland because I am Irish.

Life / Poles are not racist [873]

We are family.

I am very happy that you think Polish people are not racist.
Some Polish must be racist, no?
I just think that sweeping statements are never true, I mean if you said that, of all the Polish people you met non were racist, that would be fine, but you say no Polish are racist, there is an assumption that you know all Polish people.

In fact there is something merriam-webster.com/dictionary/racist

1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race

so you are actually being racist (not negative) about Polish people.

Can racism be measured?I do not think it is possible.
But why do you say

extremely racist

/
that implies Polish people are much more racist than.....eehhhh other races.
hhmmm, this is getting silly

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

Jeezz lads do youz not know where youz are? ha ha ha.
isn't the centre of Europe in Lithuania, they have a monument and all, that'd make Poland western.

Even at best Wikipedia is saying it is Suchowola, north of Białystok, in north-eastern Poland; and Toruń in the northern part of central Poland, that makes most of Poland south west.

Jeezz where am I???

Travel / Hiking around Zakopane/ Tatra mountains [22]

Hello FosterL3.
I am from Ireland and I live in the mountains in Poland, not as far as Zakopane. There are many many treks, some better than others. The thing I do not like about the main stream treks in Zakopane is that there are far too many people on the path (directly infront and behind you) but do not worry there are plenty of treks.

Is it easy to hike on your own in the mountains, I heard that there are colour coded walks,

Yes, it is very easy. Some routes are dangerous especially at certain times of the year, nameingly winter. Go alone you will be fine. I have no idea about tours.

You will be fine, if there is anythig more I can help you with do not hesitate to ask.

History / History of Poland in 10 minutes. Really worth seeing! [134]

Thread attached on merging:
Poland's history in 10 minutes.

i thought this was interesting and I am sure some of you will argue with some of it but that is the nature of any country's history. (I really liked the mixed music).

Discuss...

Excuse me if this has been posted before but I have not seen it anywhere.

I had forgotten that the Russians attacked same time as the Nazis, or were they just being friendly and trying to "liberate" Poland :))) depends who thought you what to think.

Life / 3 reasons why you hate Poland. [1049]

3 reasons why do you hate Poland.
Another classic example of a thread that will never end.
It is a bit vague but hey, who am I to stand in the way of someone who hates a country and I don't mean "dislike" I mean detest.

Hate is reserved for dictators and murderers and rapists

Maybe he was dictated to, murdered and raped by a Pole?

Off-Topic / What's your connection with Poland? Penpals. [554]

I was just wondering the same thing about the people on PF.

I live here.
6 years ago I was trying to get a job in Japan to buy a flat in South Africa.
So I googled jobs in Japan, it was all teaching English, so I did a T.E.F.L course and while I was their I got offered a job teaching English here in Poland.

I have to admit I did not know much about Poland at the time but not many Polish people knew anything about Ireland (things have changed).

I actually joined PF to learn more about the social use of computers.

Life / Recycling and the barter system in Poland [5]

I thought with the credit crunch and all, this might be a good time to discuss and share ideas on Recycling and the barter system.

I will start with the barter system, of course money is useful, it is a representation of a value but I would like for you all to share your experiences of people helping each other to both of their advantages.

An example, my roof had a leek last autumn, a friend knew a roofer, the roofer has a potato field but no tractor, my friend has a tractor but needs someone to help him cut the wood for winter.

Do you see where this is going?
We all came out happy:)

Of course recycling is not just putting plastic bottles into recycling bins. Although this also cuts on waste charges.
Have you any tips on how to reuse things?
The guy across the road from me, has a tractor he made himself.
I have just broken up the last of an old fence to use as fire wood.
I used to reuse stamps.
Any more examples?

Just a tip if you want a few quid in Poland, apply for a telephone line, I applied last year and now the postman comes around with 50 Zlotys from the telephone company, he has just been and gone :)

sweet like the welsh usually are?

I met many Welsh people years ago, good people and then mainly due to geography i have not met any (excluding one nice guy in Barcelona just recent).

I have not met you but I do sometimes find your comments derogatory, it could just be the air bubbles in my blood stream but what are you about?

News / Dalai Lama says: "POLAND HAS RETAINED ITS SPIRIT" [77]

Ceremonial rhetoric

What do you mean by Ceremonial rhetoric.
I thought it was quite clear.
Poland has endured a lot.
It did not exist for a while but the people (spirit) formed it again.
I have never heard the Dalai Lama just saying things like that out of ceremony.
