Life / Has feminism and lesbianism progressed in Poland? [645]

@Novichok:

1. (stage one) View and treat women as human beings (that would be a good start).

No matter what they wear or how drunk they are, btw. A drunk woman in a miniskirt is still a human being and someone's daughter and a sister.

2. (stage two) Stop viewing and treating women as inferior beings and servants of men.

In some parts of the world there are laws that in theory should guarantee women and girls all of that, but often the laws are one thing and the reality - another... And there are also attitudes in the society that can't really be changed only by laws. Maybe the right upbringing of kids and education of the whole society could change them - with time...

God knows I tried when I asked you to name what feminists want

He already answered your question correctly. It isn't pawian's fault if you're too prejudiced or too dumb (or both) to accept it or to understand it.

I'm not entirely sure what does gold-digging or enhancing one's looks have anything to do with it. There are gold-diggers among both sexes and both sexes want to be attractive to the opposite sex. Men can enhance their bodies in a natural way - it's enough for them to hit the gym and their muscles will grow. However, no amount of exercise can make women's breasts grow, so the only way to make them bigger is by plastic surgery. There are also men who choose a more artificial (and easier) way and take steroids. So, both sexes can go to great lengths to look attractive to the opposite sex (and sometimes to make a career in show-business for example). It doesn't mean, though, that women with inflated boobs and men on steroids with pumped up muscles aren't human beings and shouldn't be viewed and treated as such.

Travel / Poland in photo riddles - part 2 [1680]

@maf, I also recognised her only from when she was older, but I can't really say what productions I remember her from...

Three of them are connected to that Polish writer.

Two of them are pretty easy to spot, I think, but the third one is more difficult.

a complete azhole and moron.

lol

OK, another cultural riddle then :):

This mural was painted not in Poland, but abroad and not by a Polish artist, but by an Ukrainian. However, it was created this year to celebrate a famous Polish writer. Which one?

And another part of the riddle: there are some elements/references included by the artist in the mural. Three of them are connected to that Polish writer. Can you find them and say what those references are about?

Judging by what I've read in a Wikipedia article about him I'm guessing it must be the role of Mr. Sułek in "Kocham pana, panie Sułku"(I love you, Mr. Sułek)... If that's the case then the actress in the photo is Marta Lipińska.

The actor on the left looks like Krzysztof Kowalewski to me. I don't recognise the woman... I guess they might be singing or giving voices to some characters... It could be for the radio since Kowalewski was also a radio actor.

having no ideals like PO

The fact that you don't share their ideals (or you don't know them) doesn't mean they have none.

Better than selling yourself to the highest bidder (...) and high class escorts

You must have a bad opinion about Polish nation, considering that PO ruled Poland for two terms - they were chosen in democratic elections :)

You might be right or you might be wrong but you will never find out which

PiS has been in power for quite some time already, so I already found out.

Instead of saying it. They try to make themselves sound smart.

I wasn't trying to "sound smart" lol - I stated something pretty obvious (or, at least, something that should be obvious). Having some kind of a "vision" and a "focused conviction" isn't enough, because it doesn't mean that it's a good vision and that it's a conviction to do good things.

Life / Paintings of artists from Poland? [192]

Now I've remembered that it was "Nowa Fantastyka", to be precise - I'm pretty sure this is the issue in which I saw that painting - I remember this cover (which is also Siudmak's work):

a.allegroimg.com/original/03f994/ad01ff834c41b38ff1a4ee136112/Miesiecznik-Nowa-Fantastyka-9-93

I also remember this one, "Podwójne oblicze duszy", from that issue, I think:

double

black and white drawings.

Even those pencil drawings show that he's a perfectionist - they're so detailed and refined :)

I still have it in my archives, looks extremely infantile. :):)

In the beginning copying is a good way to learn drawing/painting :) That's great that you kept it, btw :)) I don't have any drawings left from my childhood or early teen years - I guess everything was thrown away. There's only one notebook left from when I was a younger teen - I used to draw in it during summer holidays at my grandma's in the countryside. But my cousins took it without telling me about it and now it resides in Wrocław ;P

Now when I look through old issues

You still have them? That's cool... I don't remember what happened to our issues (and I think we had only two in total).

Btw, pawian, you revived my Siudmak nostalgia ;D I feel like copying his works again after so many years lol

pokora, pycha i arogancja

Mam Ci podać słownikowe definicje? Myślę, że możesz to sobie sam w internecie znaleźć. A jeśli chodzi Ci o coś innego to wypowiadaj się jaśniej.

które z tych słów jest bliżej Chrześciaństwu

Chrześcijaństwu bliżej jest pokora oczywiście. Niestety naszemu polskiemu Kościołowi bliżej do pychy, arogancji, prywaty i moralnej zgnilizny.

wprost.pl/kraj/10330929/terlikowski-ostro-o-pedofilii-w-kosciele-pisze-to-z-ogromnym-bolem.html

I co do ego, arogancji i pychy:

wprost.pl/kraj/10326649/terlikowski-o-korporacyjnej-solidarnosci-w-kosciele-duchowni-maja-poczucie-ze-sa-lepsi.html

What exactly?

Meblościanka (wall unit)?

Who exactly?

As Alien already wrote the actor is Daniel Olbrychski. I recognised the actress, but I didn't know what her name was. However, I googled "historia meblościanki" (the history of wall unit) and this article came up:

morizon.pl/blog/historia-mebloscianki/

So, the actress is Elżbieta Czyżewska and that scene is from a musical comedy "Małżeństwo z rozsądku" (Marriage of Convenience) from 1966/67 directed by Stanisław Bareja:

Nice song :) (Btw, my parents still have such "crystals" lol - they belonged to my grandparents :))

Once I read those chairs were extremely uncomfortable

Yes, he wasn't experienced with designing furniture for normal everyday use (he had more experience with designing scenography for theater plays), so he cared more about the aesthetic side rather than comfort.

What can you say about this furniture in the background?

I'm afraid all I can say is that the furniture is from PRL times... That radio looks like it could be from the 60's, I guess...

And the people?

They're actors :)

Life / Paintings of artists from Poland? [192]

I wouldn`t dare to do such a thing, although most of his art published then was black and white drawings.

Well, that hand and torsos are monochromatic - painted in blues only and the ballpen was blue too, so it kind of made sense ;D

But, yeah, it wasn't the same. At that time I had no proper paints though, only some "plakatówki" for kids, and I had no idea how to paint such a painting anyway. And as I wrote in my previous post, that painting made me want to learn to paint with "real" paints :)

It seems his fav colour is blue.

Yes, it looks like it :)

Not my type of picture

Not entirely mine either, some of his paintings I like more, some less, but generally I appreciate his skills, imagination and that humane touch :)

I shouldn't like them at all

Why is that?

Btw, I'm interested in computer graphics and when I saw one of Kopera's paintings on the internet for the first time I thought at first that it's a digital artwork, not traditional :) (this shows how good his painting technique is) - it was this one - "One Dollar":

I saw Siudmak's painting for the first time in "Fantastyka" too :)) It was that last one that you posted - "Filaments of Destiny". I was a teen back then, still at the secondary school and didn't have much contact with art. I loved that painting :) I liked it so much that I copied that hand and those torsos on strings with ballpen into my notebook :) It made me want to paint with "real" paints and that painting was probably one of the things that inspired me to go to an art school (I wanted to paint like Siudmak! :)). So, it was pretty cool and nostalgic for me to see his paintings live during his exhibition in Kielce. I think until that time I didn't realise that a lot of his works were painted in acrylics, which makes them even more impressive.

Well, I've never thought about it as my "fav" street, it's simply the main promenade in the city that everyone here knows - you can't live in Kielce and not know it. I do like it though, so maybe you're right.

@jon357, I'm not entirely sure what it's all about with that "headword", so let's leave it at that, or the mods will probably get angry with us for this off-topic linguistic-artistic stuff :P ;)

About the painting/pastel thing, remember the rather specific (or even non-specific) role of headwords in some languages..

So in English you "paint" with pastel?
I've found something like this:

artistsnetwork.com/art-mediums/pastel/drawing-or-painting-with-pastel-which-is-it/

Jon357, that street was already posted as a riddle in this thread... On the other hand, maybe someone will guess it thanks to this lol :)

who painted this

More like drew, since it's a pastel drawing... You might as well post who he is, since you've guessed it. That's his wife and son in the drawing, btw. She was a peasant woman, he met her on a bridge when she wanted to commit suicide, he talked her out of it, took care of her and they got married a few years later.

Travel / Poland in photo riddles - part 2 [1680]

You know what, probably noone will guess it and I don't want to go back to this forum for a while, so I'll just answer it - it's white cheese (biały ser). Apparently in some regions of Poland it's called "twaróg", but for me twaróg is something different. White cheese is solid and twaróg is loose. So, this is how my countryside grandma would make homemade white cheese from her cows' milk - she would tie the cloth to a cupboard's door knob and let the cheese drain off :)

And it was the same shape as in the photo :)

The oldest archaeological traces of cheese discovered so far were found in Poland.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know that :)

Is it Bryndza, or the rarer one

I guess, theoretically, it could be bryndza, but I doubt it since I think it's mainly made in the montains (in Podhale) from sheeep's milk. There's nothing rare about that cheese in the photo, it's simply an ordinary type of cheese made in a traditional way, the way my grandma used to make it :)

So, what type of cheese is it?

Language / Is There A Name For This Dialect? [12]

@marion kanawha, yes, there is - it's called "dialekt północnokresowy" (the Northern Eastern Borderlands dialect):

pl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dialekt_p%C3%B3%C5%82nocnokresowy

A fragment from an article in Wikipedia (in English) about Polish language (from the section about dialects):

"Poles living in Lithuania (particularly in the Vilnius region), in Belarus (particularly the northwest), and in the northeast of Poland continue to speak the Eastern Borderlands dialect, which sounds "slushed" (in Polish described as zaciąganie z ruska, "speaking with a Ruthenian drawl") and is easily distinguishable."

@pawian, yes, correct, of course :))

JWK - Jednostka Wojskowa Komandosów. Often simply called "komandosi z Lublińca".

8th October was the day when they gained regiment status .

October 8 is also the unit's holiday (I'm not sure if this is what it's called in English?). This year it's the 60th anniversary of the unit's creation, which makes the Regiment the oldest still active special forces unit in Poland.

This unit came a long way since it's beginning - through name changes and reforms and nowadays they're very professional quiet professionals :) Their motto is "Cisi i skuteczni (Quiet and Efficient).

And their four-legged companions are very professional too - check this out - this is one of the videos published to celebrate the 60th anniversary :):

you are already on their permanent sh/t list.

So are you.

Paulinass

Meh, Zerowit, you could've think of something original... But I guess the nickname I gave you fits you well, since you have... zero wit... :)

Btw, I don't hate johnny_reb. I'm past that stage. But it doesn't mean I've changed my opinion about him. I still think he's a sociopath. This opinion of mine won't change, because sociopaths don't change. They only get worse with age - just like it is in your case, Zerowit.

I do dislike johnny_reb though and quite often I despise him.

And my mind didn't change about another thing - johnny_reb, his buddies and other trolls and psychos are ruining this forum aided by the lack of will on the side of mods and Admin to do anything about it.

TheUdder's vicious intention was to pop in to the forum for a little while just to stir the pot and raise unhealthy emotions .

You missed one small, but significant detail - Cargo_pants started it by claiming that TheOther died from COVID-19. Maybe for sociopaths - like you and your buddies - something like this is "funny", but for normal people it isn't. It seems that Ironside, for example, believed that Cargo_pants wrote the truth. I wasn't sure myself either. TheOther had every right to get angry/disgusted and to make this thread and inform us, normal people, that he's alive.

As far as P, she has a superiority complex and lives the pretend fantasy of a bad ass GROM girl that hates men's superiority. lol

In your head lol Like many other things... For example - TheOther isn't Lazarus.

all the ruckus you caused here driving a lot of people out of here.

TheOther and his thread didn't drive anyone out of this forum. You and your buddies do. And your sh*t-stirring. And other PF trolls and psychos. You thrive on conflict.

@TheOther, you have absolutely nothing to apologise for.

And Novichok is spot on in his post #94 about what it's like to "discuss" with johnny_reb:

Is that not a GROM banner hanging in the picture ?

Nope, it is a banner of another Polish special forces unit. This unit is much older than GROM.
The banner on the wall of the building is the big clue I mentioned in my post #987, but there are also some smaller ones.

Should I have said, October 8, 2018 ?

No, it's about October 8.

There are a couple of significant anniversaries at this time.

But connected to this unit?

The photo is very telling - there's everything one needs to identify the unit, including which sub-unit those guys in the photo belong to.
