Language / Dupa - what a beautiful Polish word [103]

Dupa is the subject matter of a famous poem by Julian Tuwim, a Polish Jewish poet:

eioba.pl/a/1rg5/calujcie-mnie-wszyscy-w-dupe-wiersz-j- tuwima

Absztyfikanci Grubej Berty
I katowickie węglokopy,
I borysławskie naftowierty,
I lodzermensche, bycze chłopy.
Warszawskie bubki, żygolaki
Z szajką wytwornych pind na kupę,
Rębajły, franty, zabijaki,
Całujcie mnie wszyscy w dupę.

Wow! I didn`t know it happened there though Napoleon and Walewska is a known story here. Belongs to Polish pop culture!

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland?

Are you crazy? Every week we get reports about shootings in America! Thank you very much. I am glad I live in provincial Poland where guns are not so easily available.

The newest one:
abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/texas-campus-issues-alert-amid-reports-shooter-18286937

A fight between two people led to a shooting at a Texas community college, where a maintenance man was caught in the crossfire and wounded, officials said.

One of the people involved in the fight had a student ID, and both people were wounded and hospitalized, Harris County Sheriff's Maj. Armando Tello said. A fourth person also was taken to a hospital for a medical condition, he said.

Poles should enjoy the right to won guns, unfortunately it is not so.

Have you dropped from the moon?

A fight between two people led to a shooting at a Texas community college,

A realistic but at the same time extremely pessimistic comment from the link above:

We already have "Gun Free" Zones and knee jerk reactions to ban certain types of Guns will not solve the problem. No ban is going to clean them all off the streets. Such talk of more Bans is talk from people who cannot think straight and/or don't pay attention to current events. The shootings in these Schools broke your lovely Gun Laws already, Guns are not allowed in these places in case you missed it. Thus we have mass shootings with high casualty counts in these places. These criminals are not idiots, they use these idiotic laws to their advantage, as evidenced by recent Shootings.

Konrad Piasecki.

I like this journalist. He is intelligent, witty, knowledgeable. Always prepared and very professional. Outgoing and humorous.

Gumi and Iron, and a few other maniacs who can read Polish, read his blog about stalinist methods used by other obsessive maniacs:

I am sickened when I see how somebody`s parents are used to decide about person`s credibility.

When will you understand that such methods will never allow PiS to win any elections?

News / Incredible news from Poland - The president shaved his moustache! [88]

Only Polish males are able to love their women so much. They will do everything for them.

But they can be also very jealous. I just read that ex Stock Exchange chairman forced film directors to give up romantic scenes with his female partner because he couldn`t bear the thought she could kiss somebody else. !!! :):):)

he couldn`t bear the thought she could kiss somebody else. !!! :):):)

Although the lady doesn`t seem to be too smart. Or it is only stage fright. Still a surprising thing in an actress.

Anna Szarek , lifemate Ludwik Sobolewski , do not feel guilty about the loss of his position as CEO of the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Even on the contrary - as told in " Fakty afternoon " on TVN 24 - herself in the story was " a valuable element that had to create the appearance of an appeal Sobolewski " as president of the WSE.

In Europe, becoming more and more rotten, only Polish people are still so loyal in marriage.

thenews.pl/1/9/Artykul/125945,Polish-couple-celebrate-longest-marriage-in-Europe

A Polish couple are celebrating their 82nd wedding anniversary today, marking the longest ongoing marriage in Europe.
Ignacy (104) and Stefania Stasiak (101) originally tied the knot way back in 1931.
They took their marriage vows 82 years ago today in their native town of Aleksandrow Lodzki, central Poland, where the pair still lives.

Travel / What is the weather like in Poland where you are now? [211]

For the last few days, every morning I have been woken bu the noise outside near my house. Caretakers or house owners remove ice and snow from sidewalks while drivers who leave their cars in the street or parking lots clean their windscreens. Winter causes problems, but it is still bearable, because Poland is used to such conditions, contrary to Western Europe where too much snow caused chaos again.

News / Why mustn`t we allow PiS to rule Poland again? [45]

you don;t believe me cause you are blinded by your preassumptions

No, you are extremely biased, that is why I have to check everything what you provide as a fact. Sorry, but it isn`t my fault. :):):)

here you go:

The German Foundation for Organ Transplantation says the number of organs donated fell almost 13 percent to 3,917 last year, the lowest figure in a decade.

Well, 13% compared to 35% in Poland. But, we are talking exclusively about heart transplants in Poland which means life or death for the patient. In Germany, they have a problem with all organ transplants, many of which aren`t so crucial.

so pawian was Religa evil when he joined PiS
is Zyta Gilowska evil? why did Zyta Gilowska join PiS government?

I would never judge people who joined PiS as evil. Everybody has their own reasons. What matters is the action one takes or words one utters as a PiS member. I don`t remember any extreme controvercies about Religa. Gilowska was more controvercial.

it's at the same time very sobering illustratrating the deep divisions that exist between brother Poles :) Makes me a little sad.

Don`t worry, in times of trouble, all Poles will be united again. And Ironside will travel across the Atlantic to give a hand!
Dla ojczyzny ratowiania, rzucił się przez morze!

Never forget, we are divided on trifle issues like current politics, but we all cherish the Spirit of 44.

ever heard about Andrzej Żydek pawian ???

You don`t need to insert your anti-semitism in every thread. It is disgusting.

you must have - this land is ruled by corruption and there is only one political force in Poland that is determined to change it

If you mean PiS, then forget it. They are as corrupted as others but they pretend to be clean. It only makes their moral degradation even greater.

Yes! I am trying to choose the biggest catches!

Rainbow trout was imported into Europe from the USA, btw.

Its meat is OK, but nothing special to me. As a small boy, I once threw up after eating a trout in a restaurant, right onto the table. :):):)

Merged: Relax thread - fishing in Poland

Hey, I thought about creating a thread which would be free of political debates. Let`s relax!

I have always been fascinated with underwater life, fish and fishing but for 20 years now this fascination has been of platonic nature as one day I decided to give up fishing for humanitarian reasons.

What are the common fish species angled in Poland? You can answer in Polish or English. Let`s crack a few riddles:

What`s this?

Record catch, 4.95 kg and 62 cm long.

PS. Most anglers in Poland take their fish home to eat. Please, respect this tradition.

History / Judge Tuleya mother was in SB [74]

people where much more united in the times you have studied in Poland rybnik - politics have changed everything -

Yes and no. People seemed united because they had one common enemy - communism and its representatives. But the very moment the system collapsed, all those who had fought against it and seemed united on the surface got divided and that was so natural.

Now you seem to idealise the communist times. Funny, isn`t it? :):):):)

- politics and the media that are brainwashing people

Only stupid people allow to be brainwashed.

Those with a bit of intelligence are able to draw conclusions for themselves.

in as much as this running debate between Gumishu and Pawian is very interesting and, at times, enlightening(for this American Polonian),

Come on, what debate, I have made only two little posts in this thread by Gumishu. :):):):) This one is third.

it's at the same time very sobering illustratrating the deep divisions that exist between brother Poles :)

Forgot American elections last year? I suppose the divisions in American electorate are the same or even greater.

You simply seem to idealise the country of your forefathers. :):):):) But we are not some sort of Eden, sorry, we are just like other countries. Normal, I mean. With dirty deeds by stupid politicians etc.

Makes me a little sad.

Don`t be sad, the fact that we argue and have different opinions means we are still alive. We will be fully united and agreed in the cemetery.

This country is corrupt -

Neither you nor PiS are able to get rid of corruption because you are morally corrupt yourselves. PiS politicians have proven it many times and today they are trusted only by 25%, mostly undereducated Poles who are unable to reason for themselves.

News / Why mustn`t we allow PiS to rule Poland again? [45]

So you mean that interest groups do not exist and that nobody become right selling government property?

Of course I didn`t say it.
But you must admit that reading the following sentence

That's why various "interest groups" are keeping this totally incompetent government in charge.

one cannot resist laughing.

Can you tell me what would happen if "various interest groups" withdrew their support for the current government?

stop talking rubbish peewee.

Hey, reminds me of Pee Wee Herman! Do thye still show the series? I remember watching it in US. Hilarious! :):):)

But he ended badly.

in Germany there was a transplantology scandal recently and the number of transplantations dropped significantly becasue people don't want to be donors anymore for the fraudulent doctors - guess what - noone is blaming the police there but corrupt doctors

Sorry, I don`t believe you, provide the link to statistics how much they have dropped.

Of course nobody is blaming the Germany police. They weren`t as politically motivated as those maniacs from PiS.

have you ever been critical of Roman Giertych?

Gumi, don`t divert the topic. What will you say to a commonly known fact that PiS, when at power, embraced and advanced judges who had worked on communists` orders and sentenced anticommunist opposition in Poland?

What will you say when we follow your style of running a debate and tell you that the father of Andrzej Kryże, a PiS nominated communist judge, was a stalinist persecutor with blood of many innocent victims on his hands?

Yes only Polish men can become infatuated with a woman..
haha

Don`t laugh. Only Polish men are able to get infatuated. Others just pretend.

Actually, I see that the reactions in comments are mixed...

Yes, but it is typical of novelties that they are received with doubt and suspicion.

Of course, the buildings should be renovated, but the place on the left looks climatic,

Yes, climatic when we think of 1990s when Poland threw off communism and adopted capitalism and new enterprises sprang up like mushrooms after rain. But in 21 century it is time to mature. Don`t you agree? :):):)

It reminds me of Vienna. My impression of that city could fit in three words - clean, whitish and... boring...

Hmm, yes, feeling bored is awful experience.

Hey, cheer up, you can always turn to the Polish forums to dissipate boredom! :):

Of course it depends on personal tastes but I think some compromise should be achieved to retain Kraków's atmosphere...

there should have been lustration of the judges after the end of PRL instead we've got a PRL bis

Yes!! In that case, PiS wouldn`t be able to promote and advance a few judges who had sentenced anti-communist opposition in Poland in communist times.

pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrzej_Kry%C5%BCe

About Bronisław Komorowki, current President of Poland:
Dissident activity
During the Polish People's Republic (PRL) he acted in democratic opposition as an underground publisher, and co-operated with Antoni Macierewicz on the monthly Głos. In 1980 he was sentenced along with activists of the Movement for Defense of Human and Civic Rights to 1 month in prison for organizing a demonstration on 11 November 1979 (the judge who presided the trial was Andrzej Kryże).
