Food / What do non-Poles think about eating the following Polish foods? [1400]

Bell pepper

Wow, I didn`t know this name!

Lecho also yumm. Bell pepper, tomatoes, kielbasa, some boczek, spices... Good for winter! And Hungarian paprika-impotrant :)

Will you accept pumpkin and aubergine as ones of ingredients?

UK, Ireland / Advantages of living in Poland as opposed to the UK. [126]

What's odd to me is why people pay ridiculous amounts to go to the seaside in Poland when you go somewhere much warmer for the same price...

Nope, delph, it is a myth that you can go somewhere warmer than the Baltic seaside for the same price in high season. It can be true for September or October, though.

History / Battle of Vienna - history movie about Poland / Commemoration [36]

It is. 1920 is at least a real movie while 1683 is mostly animation.

Another revies says that the film is unbelievable crap, and sets a new record in the category of worst films ever.

If the " work" of this caliber , what movie Renzo Martinelli made a Polish film director, not obyłoby without a public lynching . Because to say that the "Battle of Vienna" is a bad film , it does not say anything . Such a dose of kitsch and obłąkańczych unimaginable creator's vision will not find in memory.

120 days of shooting , 250 crew members from 11 countries , 10,000 extras and ... a total fiasco . The fact that the well is not already informed trailers, but that 's not so bad , can be seen only after seeing the whole. "Battle of Vienna" - Italian- Polish - Turkish co-production for 50 million zł (approximately 12.5 million) this oddity so unusual that in order to fully assess the size you need , unfortunately, to see them. Otherwise hard to believe.

News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

I would accept any decision of my wife after she has learnt about damaged feotes. Be it abortion or keeping the baby, I have nothing to say on the matter. It is women`s belly and final decision.

pawian: Even in urban districts considered dangerous you can walk at night and nothing happens.

Still plenty of dodgy places in Polish cities though. But I agree, I don't think there's anywhere which compares with our inner-cities or peripheral estates.

Nice of you to agree.

8. It's much easier to go away on holidays. For example just to go to one of the Islands in Scotland for the weekend would cost me about £500, in Poland I could drive and stay in a hotel for a week for the same amount of money).

Does it mean an average Brit can`t afford going on longer vacation, e.g., one month, even within the UK???

History / Battle of Vienna - history movie about Poland / Commemoration [36]

The wave of garbage "patriotic" films at the minute is really depressing, especially considering the amount of talent that Poland has produced throughout the years.

But the film isn`t Polish production. There are a few Polish actors in it, that`s all. It seems an Italian venture, the director is Italian.

PS. The reviewer`s rating: 0/10 :):):):)

History / Battle of Vienna - history movie about Poland / Commemoration [36]

Sorry, guys, I have bad news for you. It is another crap, even worse than 1920 Battle of Warsaw.

The reviewer is relentless- the film doesn`t even meet TV standards for so many reasons I can`t enumarate them all, but you can read about them here:

One of them is low-budget special effects -e.g., the animated charge of Polish winged riders resembles a cheap PC game.

Do you think it implies allusion to our times?

Funny, I guessed correctly, the film carries a strong political message after all, among others its English title is September 11 1683, while the actual battle took place on 12 Sep.

Ohhhh look how red that flesh is.Mmmmm so fresh.

Yes, looks like painted red.

I bet smoked would be heavenly.

Better than Greek gods` ambrosia, believe me.

Pawian,I use to seine fish for salmon in Alaska. We would take one of the catch immediately and cook it.There is nothing like eating red salmon cooked within minutes of being caught!

I believe you, undone. I know such things happen in Alaska.

History / What do Poles owe to Hungarians? [233]

I edited my previous post. 10.

Csardas. One of the experiences i would like to one day enjoy, is sitting in a Budapest tavern, sipping Hungarian wine and listening/watching the Csardas:

Is it so popular in Poland to mention it????? :):):):):):)

Ok, ok, I give up. Guys, you can post about any Hungarian contribution to the world`s culture, even loosely connected with Polish affairs.

That is why I decided to swallow my own words which I said to Orpheus.

I prefer to ignore things which discussed nations contributed to the whole world.I want to focus on Polish contribution entirely.

Dear Or, I am realy sorry for being so strict.

Yes, that was heavy drinking with Hungarian wine.

See it at 14:38 - drinking, eating, singing, shooting, destruction, wanton sex. Polish gentry of 17 century.

In 1920, when Poland was in extremely difficult military situation, Hungarians sent ammo and supplies whoich proved crucial to win the war against Bolsheviks.

Life / Polish cartoons for kids [43]

Very nice thread topic Pawian, thanks for your contribution. Enjoyed learning about polish cartoons.

Thanks, but you sound a bit pessimistic with that past tense. The thread will be continued!

We never had those cartoons here.

Not even this? The Polish version of Winnie the Pooh?

Uszatek

That cartoon was really devoid of violence and very educational for small children. However, unlike Winnie the Pooh, the Flop-Ear Bear is always wise, mature, responsible etc etc. Also friendly, well mannered, gentle, polite etc etc . Most Polish kids knew the intro and end songs by heart:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mi%C5%9B_Uszatek

Miś Uszatek (Teddy Floppy-ear) is a Polish character from the stop motion-animated TV series of the same name. He was created jointly by Polish writer Czesław Janczarski and cartoonist Zbigniew Rychlicki.[1]

Miś Uszatek's first appearance was in a Polish comic magazine for children, "Miś", on 6 March 1957. Later, he was the main character of several children's books, which were translated into many languages. However, it became very popular in 1975, when £ódź' Animated Forms Studio (Studio Malych Form Filmowych), Se-ma-for, created a series of cartoons for the Polish TV network, featuring actor Mieczysław Czechowicz, who voiced the characters.[2] In all-time Polish ranks of animated programs, it usually comes second only to Bolek i Lolek.

Miś Uszatek and his friends - Prosiaczek (Piglet), Króliczki (Little Rabbits) and Zajączek (Little Hare), as well as Kruczek the Puppy - were loved by pre-teen kids. At the same time, Uszatek, a teddy bear, played the role of a friend from kindergarten. He was also liked by parents, as he would always go to bed at appropriate hour, singing the goodnight song:

" Pora na dobranoc, bo już księżyc świeci. Dzieci lubią misie, misie lubią dzieci. (It's time to go to bed, as the moon is shining. Kids like teddy bears, teddy bears like kids.)[2]

Opinions clash......

Life.... :)

pawian: its belly. Melts on your tongue, but be careful with fat dripping everywhere.

yep, i am certainly not going to eat that either, I prefer the chicken.

Sorry, but chicken won`t help you live a healthy life and die at an old age. You risk dying too young.

Fish and shellfish are generally lower in fat than meat, poultry or full-fat dairy products. Compared to other fish like codfish or plaice, salmon has a higher fat content (10-20%). This fat is more unsaturated, and richer in omega-3 fatty acids and therefore better for your health.

Omega-3 fatty acids have a positive effect on cardiovascular health, protecting against heart disease. Researchers suggest they may have a role in preventing macular degeneration, a common form of blindness, and have beneficial effects in some depressive disorders. It is recommended that you eat fish rich in omega-3s twice a week in order to reap specific health benefits.

Omega-3 content of fish (amounts are in grams per 100 g portion)
salmon (Pacific), wild 2.2
salmon (Atlantic) farmed, cooked, dry heat 1.8
sardine (Pacific), canned in tomato sauce 1.4
herring (Atlantic), pickled 1.2

Smoked bellies are my absolute favorite! When I fillet my first side I leave all the bellie meat on the carcass and then when I fillet the other side I just cut the bellie off of that side so I just have one full piece of bellie meat. Both fillets come out perfect.I usually score alot of extra bellies because most people don't realize how good they are!

This is just the way we do it. We love the bellies and make it a point to save all of them. First I hold the the fish vertical (the way it swims) by the tail and the head away from me, then cut the 2 top fins off. Next flip the fish over cut, the belly off starting from just the anus and cutting forward toward the head. Then lay the fish on its side and fillet as usual. What your left with as far as belly goes it a nice u-shaped piece of meat, just dont forget to get out the little bit guts that are left in the belly.

Life / Polish cartoons for kids [43]

all the cartoons are pretty old.

Yes, I know, and that was my intention to start with the old ones. Just for the sake of sentimental recollections.

they do not make new cartoons for kids in Poland anymore?

Yes, they do. But I will abstain from presenting them right now as they don`t belong to my sentimental memories.

Is it plausible and forgivable? :):):)

PS. Of course, other younger guys may freely contribute with modern cartoons.

Yes! It was the first Polish comic story, when there wasn`t any TV yet. I knew it was old but never suspected it was created in 1933.

I didn`t appreciate cats as a child but I quite appreciated this feline series from mid 1970sThe Adventures of Filemon the Cat. And I loved the soundtrack.

The two main characters are: Filemon, a little white kitten, young and naïve; and Bonifacy, an old, serious black tomcat. Other characters are: the Grandmother, the Grandfather, a fox, mice, 'monsters from the attic' and other creatures. The cartoon is rich in elements of folk legends and traditions from a certain region of Poland.

Better with just butter or smalec. The taste is too strong for anything delicate.

Jom, with all respect, smoked salmon, having strong taste itself, reaches full harmony with brown breads.

Look, I am eating the most delicate part of salmon - its belly. Melts on your tongue, but be careful with fat dripping everywhere. Goes perfectly well with rye bread full of seeds. Mniaam!

Now, for a change, cartoons I didn`t like.

Dumb He-goat was a peculiar series. About a halfwit creature and full of violence. I was really surprised they showed that crap on state television in 1970s.

poland bajka

]

Extreme violence at 7:30
Gold Rush
Hold uu

I didn`t like Dumb He-Goat but I watched it anyway. Better that than nothing.

However, I really hated another series - Colargol Teddy Bear, about am unhappy creature who is always misunderstood and rejected by others. That was so awful! What was even worse, the bear looks stupid and his voice is ridiculous.

Poland Koralgol

Following the success of the Colargol albums Albert Barillé's animation company Procidis started production on Les Aventures de Colargol, a stop-motion animated series starring Colargol. Barillé enlisted the Polish animator Tadeusz Wilkosz and Se-ma-for in £ódź to create the animation.

The series was produced from 1967 to 1974, comprising 53 thirteen-minute episodes which were broadcast in many European countries. Les Aventures de Colargol was renamed Barnaby when it was dubbed into English and broadcast in the UK by the BBC. The series underwent another name change when a second dubbed version of the series was shown in Canada (and also in the UK and Ireland), this time as Jeremy the Bear.

The series was also turned into three motion picture films in Poland: Colargol na Dzikim Zachodzie (Colargol in the Wild West) in 1976, Colargol zdobywcą kosmosu (Colargol, the Conqueror of Space) in 1978, and Colargol i cudowna walizka (Colargol and the Magic Suitcase) in 1979.

What on Earth are you talking about?

I am talking about my answer

So far German courts have been known for judging in favour of German citizens in cases against Poles.

to your statement

The interpretation you'll find most often in available sources is that Poland was unable to judge in favour of a German (or Pole of German descent) for political reasons,

You don`t like it? :):):):)
