News / Religious extremists advocate murdering gay Polish politician [42]

I pointed to time limits here

I am talking about a democratic Poland since 1989 when parties of all kinds were allowed to rise.

if look at the period of the PRL alone

No, this isn`t a historical thread to encompass PRL times. It wasn`t a normal time and one wasn`t allowed to openly declare what political colours they were. Now it is possible and the only life threats one can read about come from the right side.

Why???

you don't hear threats from them because the leftists swine are hiding under rocks or in high places.

Hmm, does it mean rightists don`t hide there? Of course, they do, those life threats come from under the rock.

So, I was correct asking my question about rightard violence. Now, rightists are trying to wriggle out of answering by illogical deflections. Clever guys - they know they have no chance in a fair debate. hahaha

News / Religious extremists advocate murdering gay Polish politician [42]

During last Warsaw Rising march organised by nationalist groups, certain man went out to the balcony and performed gay dancing with obscene gestures. He had an object which resembled a rainbow flag (a beach tent, in fact).

Some commentators suggest it was a provocation by a hetero rightist activist.

However, many rightist viewers/social media users took it seriously and now want to kill an innocent man. How? The LGBT activist, Bart Staszewski, who met with President Duda a few weeks ago is being accused of the performance. Wrongly, he claims, coz he spent all that time in front of his computer. Now he is getting life threats.

Why are Polish rightists so violent by nature? Have you ever heard that a leftist person threatened to kill anybody in Poland????

News / Scandals, conflicts, tensions, arguments - real life examples from Poland [543]

Gajos` interview and PiS` hysterical reaction is still widely commented. People from the show business support Gajos and ciritisize PiS. E..g, Włodzimierz Press, famous Grigorij Shakaashvilli from Georgia.

That`s appalling. I don`t understand the times we live in and feel very bad about this all.

OK, but unless I am misinformed, PiS is not suggesting to annihilate those groups?

It always starts from stigmatising and enmity, annihilation comes later as a natural consequence when most people are so brainwashed they are ready to close an eye and keep silent when murderers do their job.

That is why hundreds of people who survived WW2 and are still alive, during various conferences, meetings, marches, demonstrations etc warn the society not to allow second nazism to be born in Poland.

Here, despite PiS gigantic brainwashing in state media, nearly half people voted against them. That is a very positive factor in that unpleasant situation we are experiencing with the right in power.

You didn`t think hard enough about it. By the division he probably meant that Nazis chose certain groups and stigmatised them as parasites and enemies which had to be annihilated: Jews, communists, LGBT, Slavs, Gypsies. Later they organised Holocaust for them.

PIS is doing the same thing today. Poland is divided coz half the nation supports such stigmatising, half rejects it.

History / Cursed soldiers controvercy - not all Poles respect them [320]

isn't it strange that Jaruzelski became a general then in a "people's" army?

No, it isn`t. There were more Red Counts in communist ranks. They were watched over with suspicion until they proved themselves worthy of communist trust. He deserved it by working as a secret agent in 1950s and never ever betrayed communism.

but, joined uprisings when called (On Poland's side of course)

Yes, they did but it was later on, when noblemen who had initially agreed to Russian partition saw that it wasn` t so rosy after all.

History / BEATS OF FREEDOM - A HISTORY OF POLISH ROCK MUSIC [108]

I have always been a rebel....., you don't know the half of it :-)

So you must haver prefered punk rock, in fact. ha

Dezerter, the most famous classic punk group in 1980s. Never on the radio or TV. hahaha But I didn`t regret it, such rough music with hardly any tune and with harsh vocals was too tiring for me - I could never bear more than two, three songs. Also, those rebellious lyrics seemed a bit depressive to me .

Besides, I always had a vague feeling they copied too many ideas from original trend-setters like Sex Pistols etc.

All in all, I didn`t like classic punk rock.

I'm dumb, I'm fu..ked in the head!
An earring in my ear, a chunk of stool up my ass!
Without end complaints are filed against me!
Without end I am in conflict with other people!

I'm I'm I'mma filthy bum! (2x)
AAAAAA!

I don't wanna work in no office!
I don't wanna wear a suit!
Ride a stuffed city bus!
And work under pressure!

Mommy,daddy I am different!
For this, will I get my filthy mug beaten in?
My brain is as if it were swollen!
I think maybe I'm fu..ked in the head!

Yes, but you need to have a good grasp on a lot of things and be versatile. And it is a stressful job.

Work / Can I find a non-corporate job in Poland? [34]

Are you saying certain non-corporate jobs in Poland should be off limits

Are you saying your anti-Polonism blinds you so much that you seem to cease to be able to grasp the correct meanings in messages??? hahahaha

it looks like no large amount of money was confiscated.

It had just been laundered and hanging out in the backyard to dry. The police didn`t look there. Simple.

There isn't enough room in Poland

So we will chose the blackest ones and conjugate them with the whitest partners and wait for the outcome. Amazing experiment! Whad ya think?

In Poland you have to work to survive, no one's just going to give it to you.

PiS think otherwise.

The latest remark by Janusz Gajos, a famous actor, caused huge upheaval in PiS ranks. He said: a small man (Kaczyński) divided Poland into two parts. It is a crime. Such acts led to nazism in the past.

PiS reacted hysterically, as usual. They called him a simpleton or an actor from a puppet theatre. Also, suggested his roles in communist series certainly influenced his thinking. hahahaha

haa, entertainer. You can become a busker in a posh Old Town where many tourists come. But now they don`t in fear of the virus so you will have to wait two or three years. But in the meantime, you can practise the instrument.

History / BEATS OF FREEDOM - A HISTORY OF POLISH ROCK MUSIC [108]

It's called stiff upper lip.... resigned but with no self-pity.

I see. Yet, I prefer more dynamic singing.
Look, when I defend Cohen, it doesn`t mean I collected his music at home. No, but at least when I heard him on the radio, I listened to the end and didn`t try to change the station. Powerful rock music was always my fav but soft slow ballads also appealed to me.

If there had been a Polish music critic/journalist who would have promoted Lightfoot like Cohen was on the Polish Radio in 1980s, Poles would know him more. But there wasn`t and now it is too late. hahaha

like Cohen was on the Polish Radio in 1980s,

Till 1985.
When he came to give concerts here, he spread pro-Solidarity message in interviews or on stage and even met Wałęsa. In result, he was boycotted by communist media but his popularity even increased and remained high till his death.

Cohen is a one trick pony as most of his songs can be reduced to 'poor me'...

Exactly!! That`s how most Poles felt in 1980s after the martial law! Cohen just hit the nail for Poles, hence his popularity. hahaha

Lightfoot has a far greater emotional range (musically and lyrically).

I believe you but you would have to recommend one more song for me - this time, with attractive melody and vocals, please.

I chose it partly as a counter to sea shanties.... (you should have picked up on that).

I thought so at first but wasn`t sure.

The slightly monotonous feel is echoing the tragic inevitable fate of the crewmen of course....

No, come on, the tragedy is happening and he sings with such a monotonous voice At seven p.m., a main hatchway caved in, he said "Fellas, it's been good to know ya" No, it isn`t music about a tragedy, it would better express melancholy at autumn time when you see leaves falling and generally nature is preparing for a long winter sleep and similar stuff.

You recommended a foreign song about a tragic accident with many casualties. Well, it didn`t appeal to me too much.

Probably because I have a better choice of Polish songs about accidents. This one by Gintrowski/Kaczmarski is about a tragic fire in a mental hospital. Soon it was adopted as an anti-communist song because of many allusive lines.

Listen to it and compare how expressive the music and vocal can be in a song about a tragedy. The lyrics are unforgettable, too.

And we don`t want to escape from here 1980

Our big home is on fire.
The smoke circulates cord-like through the corridors.
It's a deep, really black night,
the burning rats run away from the basements.

I scream out of the window, I penetrate the pane with my forehead,
with a gulp of air I make a gap in the heat.
The one who hears me thinks I'm a madman.
He cries: "You bedlamite, what else did you dream of?"

Dude had a hell of a setup - pneumatic doors to keep it hush hush,

Like in a space station. hahaha

However, sooner or later such guys are caught. One courier/delivery guy is enough to track down the whole group - the police don`t even have to arrest him or her - they can fix a radio transmitter to their car and finito.

Here's an interesting song with lyrics "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"

I listened to it. Nice but musically boring - it has 7 long stanzas and the tune, nothing special, is the same for each of them. The voice remains the same, too - no change at all. That`s what you called tuneless and forgettable before. hahaha

Sorry, if that is his best song, then Cohen is brilliant in comparison. :)
