USA, Canada / Polka Parade Television Show [43]

Thanks so much for the information Polka Fan. I'm so glad someone else has heard of the show. Even better, you had actuallywatched the show. I had read online that Dick Sinclair was the host. I had no idea Farmer John was a sponsor. I know they have a huge company located in Vernon, California.

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

A smile costs nothing and can light up a dull day.

It may take more facial muscles to frown than it does to smile. So... keep smiling :)

do polish men make good husbands?

I'd like to be able to answer that question myself someday. My mom would tell you, my Polish daddy was the most wonderful husband and father in the world ;)

Life / Poland: worst teeth in the world? [98]

According to Reuters article Americans are the "coolest" people in the world

Can't argue with the chart.

Here's a close up view of my relative's mouth. Notice the teeth's resemblance to corn on the cob. At his/her age (no name mentioned) they're lucky to still own their own teeth :)

Life / Do you collect mushrooms in your country? Poles in Poland do. [94]

Becksi. Do you mean the tall thing near the right-hand corner of the building? What is it?

The whole building itself is meant to represent the shape of a giant toadstool. It must have been made by some hippies in the 1960's.

Travel / Castles and Palaces in Poland (with pictures) [155]

Everyone thinks this is a painting. I had taken this pic of the castle in Lublin with my cell, late in the evening. I love the photo. It looks so surreal.

Life / Price of cigarettes in Poland? [192]

I had a bunch of beer, wodka and cigarettes in my baggage, no one cared about my age, especially not Polska

Most likely nowadays, luggage inspection is not so lenient.

Go ahead and post a pic. But remember, you're only 14. Don't post a pic that your parents wouldn't approve of.

Life / Why Do You Love Poland? [907]

I love Poland, because everyone there pronounced my beautiful Polish surname correctly. In the United States my last name is always massacred.

Life / Gifts from Poland (I'm returning to my country after a year in Poland) [36]

I have limited space in my suitcase and I'm on a tight budget?

Handcrafted paper items are nice. I bought the following book marker in Poland. I also saw lots of pretty handmade cards. They're inexpensive and hardly take up any suitcase space ;)

Do you collect mushrooms in your country?

Not much mushroom picking in California, except for some areas such as Sonoma. On the way to Treblinka, I noticed an area where mushroom picking is supposed to be great. Not enough time for picking on my last Polish vacation though. Perhaps next trip, if time allows...

Language / Is the term 'Polak' derogatory?? [254]

I don't know a Polish person who would use the word "Polack" or would badmouth people of Polish origin who are proud of their Polishness - irrespective of how real it is

I recall a sign posted years ago, in a Polish church hall. The sign read, "Ten dollars fine for an ethic joke, One Hundred dollars fine for a Polack joke." The sign is now long-gone. I don't know if they were joking or really serious about the fines.

Travel / Your best memory after visiting Poland [41]

Exactly one year ago from today, I met my beloved Great Aunt Janka. At age 92, she is the eldest of my relatives. Meeting her was truly an honorable experience. I will cherish the beautiful memories for the rest of my life :)

Were you devastated when she turned you down after you asked her out?

How sweet; Zimmy's defending Polish women :)

Okay...who kidnapped the real Zimmy? I guess chivalry isn't dead after all. I don't even if I like this sensitive side of Zimmy, lol

USA, Canada / Polka Parade Television Show [43]

when Polka music was at its height, there was a lot of polka music on TV

On PBS television the stations air old episodes, of the Lawrence Welk programs. Lots of Polka music to listen to.

Not here in California where it seems that every other car stereo is blasting polka music

Haha, you're so silly neighbor. Most people in California wouldn't know a Polka, if one came out and slapped them across the face, lol.

USA, Canada / Polka Parade Television Show [43]

I recall my father talking a television show, "The Polka Parade." He had mentioned the show aired several years ago. He really enjoyed watching the program. Of course, he was very pleased with the show's Polka theme. I looked on Utube and saw a blurred portion of the show. It was in black & white. The host was Dick Sinclair. I don't know if he was Polish...

Has anyone here ever watched any of the Polka Parade televison programs previously? (Or even heard of the t.v. show for that matter?)

Thanks :)

Life / Rich man, poor man - today`s Poland [80]

Blocks are usually grouped in estates, among abundant greenery

The following photos were taken from the balcony, of a relative's home in Lublin. My family members have lived in the house since the 1930's. I was amazed to see the very large and green backyard. Notice the shape of the buildings, in the background of the second photo.

UK, Ireland / Prices of Clothes in Poland and England [35]

Prices of Clothes in Poland

At the shopping mall in Warsaw, I bought some clothing at H&M store. The blouses were approximately $15.00 each (American dollars.) The cost in the United States would be roughly $20.00 each. Some of the clothing tags indicated, the products had been made in Poland.
