another issue I have with some Poles

wow... you go through phases like in marriage... first few months - excitement... close to one year - frustration & crisis... no worries, if you past this stage, everything will fall to its place later on...

Genealogy / THE MEANING AND RESEARCH OF MY POLISH LAST NAME, SURNAME? [4500]

what is the meaning of the last name Serafin?

comes from "saraph":

It is named after the biblical snake, Saraph, called "fiery serpent" in popular English translations: "And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole". Numbers Chapter 21

A Seraph was also a type of "celestial being". The Seraphim, which, like the Cherubim, were used as Chariots of God and his angels. The description in the book of Samuel is surprisingly fitting for the abilities of this modern combat aircraft: "And He rode upon a cherub, and did fly .... At the brightness before Him coals of fire flamed forth .... And He sent out arrows and scattered them; lightning, and discomfited them." 2 Samuel Chapter 22

encyclopedia.thefreedictionary/saraph

saraph - means "burning," a man of Judah...

Life / Understanding Poland's Birthday Tradition [66]

being spanked 18 times with a belt on your 18th birthday is a tradition of my generation as my parents haven't heard about it before....

no harm intended, just a bit of silliness and a teenage tradition...

just like a tradition, probably only Krakusy know about: at the night after a prom, you have to go to the Main Square in Krakow and hop on left leg 3 times around the Adaś statue... it's for good luck, to pass all the high school finals...

silly, but fun... i still remember that... :)

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

Do you seriously smile at and greet random people you meet on the streets in the US?

yes! throw a smile here and there doesn't hurt, and for sure makes you feel good, because Americans smile back at you, often say HI, and sometimes start a nice quick casual conversation... i can only wish that whenever i'm in Poland, less people would give me "WTF!" look when i give them a smile... :)
