Life / Why are so many Polish People rude on the internet? [96]

That's exactly what you can see if you visit any internet board or forums, youtube comments.. it's not the polish exclusive, and by the way 4chan wasn't invented by Poles either...

Language / Is the term 'Polak' derogatory?? [254]

I don't think it is insulting as such, it depends on the intent really and the tone of voice while speaking it. If it's used in english then it kind of puts stress on its "foreignness" which some might find derogatory.

Life / Are foreigners welcome in Poland? [305]

a Pole may completely misread this and just assume that she's teasing.

Believe me that has nothing to do with anyone being Polish or not. That's what a certain type of person does. Same with the later piece of your post.

Ungratefulness.

What's the reason for ungratefulness then? I'm trying here to get to the root of this evil among polish people.

Life / Are foreigners welcome in Poland? [305]

More hospitable, vor? The Czechs didn't seem all that open to me but, then again, I was in Prague. It was better in Brno where the policemen went out of their way to help my friend and I.

I agree with you , it all depends on what people you've met and I can tell you that no visitor can make a proper judgement after just a few visits..

Many people get heavily biased because of meeting the wrong kind I guess I can't blame them..

Life / Are foreigners welcome in Poland? [305]

People who think somebody is not welcomed in Poland will most probably think the same about their neighbours or people from the neghbouring village, city or town. There's also a group of people who are just racists and they'll most likely openly hate anyone who "looks foreign". And that's, I reckon, same as anywhere else.

Language / Do Poles prefer US American or UK English language? [185]

It depends, I never heard a single Pole saying "lorry" they are all truck here and there ; ) I could probably find more examples.. Surely because of american english being more present in everydays life, movies, tv shows and so on.

Life / 3 reasons why you hate Poland. [1049]

The dirtyness? Sorry, but I've travelled a lot around Europe and there's no
significant difference in "dirtyness" of Poland and western european countries.

It's a bit better but I still have this feeling when I'm coming to Sweden... "it's so CLEAN in here" and it's not baseless. Wealthier countries are indeed cleaner... It's not a SUCH big difference anymore but still a foreigner might get a heart attack after seeing the thawing aftermatch, one of my friends one said we're gonna drown in dog poop ; )

Life / Popular Polish blog and chat sites [65]

whats the website address for this?

Never heard about this "side" thingie - or anything that sounds similarly. Easiest way to find chats is to turn on Polish sites filter in google search ( advanced search - choose language Polish / or location Poland ) and type in "chat" it's gonna find a lot of sites that allow chatting with polish people...

Life / Free online Polish Television (TVN). [17]

I like "Usta Usta" (mouth to mouth).

bet you do..

Anyways, it seems it works properly, my mum watches god save us bold and beautiful through their streaming service and I've seen "Klub szalonych dziewic" or something like that. Some adverts every 30 minutes or so but it's not that annoying.

"huj"

It's a gutter speech word, even posh people swear sometimes and they would never use this word.. it makes people who use it seem dumb and uneducated...

Life / Why so many Poles use a second hands clothes? [110]

Yeah.. when I was younger all my clothes were from my mother's friend of a friend of a friend who lives in west Germany and has older kids who are too big for these clothes. They were called "ubrania z rajchu".. oh sweet times, even now I sometimes have to struggle with these old notions.. ; ) "should I buy another pair of trousers.. I mean these are nearly new, just 3 years old... I mean.. I just bought them"

Life / Do you think that Polish people are rude? [951]

''how are you and to be honest I dont think anyone of them give a ****

I kind of agree with that. Many people ask me how am I, and they usually expect "Fine thanks" in return. I'm a talkative guy so after me asking about the same thing they are saying fine thank, I usually go deeper with questions and they always seem to be annoyed.. pleasentries.. barf

Study / "MAGISTER" OR "MASTERS DEGREE" - ARE THEY THE SAME? [75]

No a Magister is somewhere between a BSc and an MSc.

Nah it is not. Otherwise 4 years out of a 5 years Magister wouldn't be sufficient to let you even try to get the MSc, hence sometimes they are perfectly equal.

- 5 y of a magister courses give you a magister
- 4 y of a magister + 1 y of cranfield gives you MSc
The first one is exactly the same the as the second one and you do precisely same things.

Study / "MAGISTER" OR "MASTERS DEGREE" - ARE THEY THE SAME? [75]

Four years is enough to get a Magister (several people in my ex-girlfriend's uni class did it, including her). And one year is enough to get an MSc after doing your BSc.

So basically Msc is, one way or another, same thing as 5y Polish Magister.. different durations same title alright.

Study / "MAGISTER" OR "MASTERS DEGREE" - ARE THEY THE SAME? [75]

Everyone fighting for "the courses I finished are the best courses and it is highly improbable any of you guys would be elligable to join or have same high education after your courses" bollocks. I say serious employers will value the information about finished courses and work experience more than the title. And following the previous though, if Cranfield rates 4 years of Polish Politechnika as enough to obtain Msc after a year then the level of education is thought of as same or similar. Or is it, that in other countries it is similar to Poland, one university is not equal to another, same with titles.

Study / "MAGISTER" OR "MASTERS DEGREE" - ARE THEY THE SAME? [75]

To do an MSc you will need to do two years of A levels, a four-year BSc (as virtually all BSc courses have a sandwich year) and then an MSc which will probably be two years but might take only one year.

Well whatever you say, he's got a British Msc after 4 years here and 1 year there..

Study / "MAGISTER" OR "MASTERS DEGREE" - ARE THEY THE SAME? [75]

And while you can not do a Master's in five years

hmm I'm not sure, my mate went to Cranfield as a part of his last Sokrates year and he got a Msc there. He had studied for 4 years in here earlier ( 5 year studies that end up giving you a magister and engineer titles, I dunno how that translates )

do Polish degree certificates differentiate between full time and extramural studies

I don't think they do, I've got Magister Inżynier after a normal course of 5 years, daily. And my mate has got the same title but he was attending "zaoczne" studying only on the weekends : o

On the other hand if you check the number of hours and different subjects it is visible that he did have much less exercises, lectures and laboratory hours than me.. but who would bother to check..

UK, Ireland / The best way for a Polish person to learn English? [34]

learning songs in English is a great way too, singing along and looking up the lyrics is fun and effective

Couldn't agree more, especially song you like, it's easier to memorize the melody and add words later. And when you finally check the lyrics these words usually stay in your head.. very good way to learn. There were so many songs I though I knew lyrics of, after looking them up I was like "I though she was singing "sex sex sex" and it's "some success" ".. ; )

UK, Ireland / The best way for a Polish person to learn English? [34]

It's probably pretty hard to find a gf/bf when you don't know the language to begin with.. If you're a bit on the introvertic side you can always try to use voice chats and try to chat with some natives.

Life / Polish home remedies for cold, stomach ache, migraine? [49]

herbata z prontkyi

herbata z prądem

exactly what you've mentioned, tea with rum or vodka...

several cloves of garlic at a time

I would be careful there with garlic, many old wives and grannies say it works miracles, my own mum forced me into eating a lot of garlic when I was small ( you'll be stronger and healthier ), but I recall I've read and heard from a few sources that eating more than one clove of garlic at a time can harm your bacterial flora in your alimentary tract..
