Life / Polish Music. [303]

With all the "Pop and Rap Music" happening in Poland, people forget that Poland also has a very active and very good Prog Rock and Metal Scene going on too.

Probably Poland's greatest ever Prog Rock band..... Riverside....

I would class this as "Prog/Metal" and it is at least as good as any of the stuff coming out of the "Anglosphere".......

I'll end tonight with an oldie from 1979 (Communist times!)

.I somehow missed the flute in there but heard plenty of good Sax.

Words fail me!

Oh come on!The flute features at the very beginning of the song and at the end of it.For the rest of the song it is at best a tiny part of the song.
The main player is the Sax towards the end.
Funny how we all hear music differently.... :-)

More good Polish Rock Music.......

Food / Traditional Polish Foods [141]

To me, koperek (dill) tastes and above all smells as any cooking aroma wafting from a Polish kitchen!

Very popular in Sweden too and other Scandinavian and East European countries.
I love it too!

Food / Traditional Polish Foods [141]

We have it in Britain too, Sorrel, also used for soups,

My Polish parents used to grow it in the garden and it was added to soups, often with hard boiled eggs.
My sister and I would go to the garden and eat it raw, because we loved the bitter, lemony taste!

but how many Polish Americans generations later still eat traditional meals?

Very few I suspect. The difference between Polish Americans and Anglo Poles is quite acute. Most Polish Americans are talking about great grandparents or even further back.
Anglo Poles mainly came to the UK during or after WW2.So much more recent, even my kids had Polish grandparents!

Life / Warsaw - what's there to love? Semi-livable city? [42]

Exactly! Patriotic Warsawians have always felt like Polish Messiahs who came into this world to save Poland.

I can't disagree with that but Rich will call them morons!

@Lenka
Obviously not filmed in Poland.I somehow missed the flute in there but heard plenty of good Sax.

Not a bad song though!

I have followed Mela Koteluk for many years now because I love her voice and music.
So I am just posting songs from her tonight. This song title roughly translates as "Why trees say nothing".

This song title translates as "Walk Away".

This song was the title track to her debut album and translates as "Parachute".

This is my last post from Mela Koteluk tonight, I struggle to understand the point of her lyrics, no, that is not because of my poor Polish, but because the lyrics are rather obscure, but perhaps they are meant to be.The song title means "Invisible" and the extensive use of red and white in the video adds to the mystery about what this song is about.Whatever! It's a great song!

That is why more and more US pensioners are moving to Poland as I have just read

Bad move if you live in a safe area of America.

Why move from American safety to a potential war zone?

Whilst I take on board most of what you say,
Imane Khelif is much more male than female, even though she was born a woman.

Food / Bigos Recipe [183]

Also, for Americans, stew implies chunks of meat with potatoes, carrots and onions (among other things) but not cabbage.

This is a discussion about the Polish dish called Bigos. The American "opinion" is irrelevant. Why do Yanks, even ones like you, who have lived in Poland for a long time, seem to think that the American opinion matters?

Life / Poles turn their backs on organised religion. [148]

how do you square your abhorrent and decidedly unchristian behaviour towards others with God?

Because he is not a true christian. He never turns the other cheek.

You believe that you're a Christian but your actions completely contradict that.

He is a "Fake Christian"

Food / Bigos Recipe [183]

It's sad to witness people argue over something as wonderfully varied as bigos.

So why are you arguing about it?

You sound like you may be French."Choucroute Garnie a L'Alsascienne" is very similar to bigos.

Bigos is a traditional Polish dish adopted by Germanic people, even in France.

Please, do not try to change this tradition into some French or Italian invention.

Agreed!
