Poles who are indeed obsessed with money and image

Some of them really are. As for money they are called "nowobogaccy" or "nuworysze" (the latter being an import from the French 'nouveau riche').

As for image, the most famous are called "celebryci". They are defined in Polish as "znani z tego, że są znani".

Amazing attractions like Wieliczka, history Auschwitz

Indeed, someone has been calling Auschwitz an amazing attraction. This is amazing, isn't it?

Urgent: PiS wants to modify the Polish national anthem?

This is the original idea of Piotr Zapart who is the chairman of the comitee for erecting the statue of Jan III Sobieski in Vienna. The verse:

Dał nam przykład Bonaparte, jak zwyciężać mamy!
should be replaced by a new one:
Dał nam przykład Jan Sobieski, jak zwyciężać mamy!".

The idea has received the support of Jacek Żalek, vice-chairman of the PiS parliamentary group. Mr Żalek argues that Napoleon was a loser who lost everything in the end, so he shouldn't be the one who shows the road to victory for the Polish people.

The tabloid Super Express has suggested other candidates for replacing Napoleon in the Polish anthem. These are: Józef Piłsudski, Lech Wałęsa, Jarosław Kaczyński, Antoni Macierewicz. Adam Małysz or Robert Lewandowski.

ou have sureły heard of the Wielkopolska Insurrection, the Silesian Uprising, the Polish-Bolshevik war

And the Polish-Bolshevik war was the most important of them all. I am not sure if Ms Atch knows it, but Lenin's important aim was to "export" the Bolshevik revolution to the west of Europe. If the Soviet communist hordes had succeeded to conquer Poland, it is very much likely that Germany would have been taken by them, too, and with Germany in their hands Europe would have been totally different from what it was after 1918.

It's also very sinister in that this is the beginning of a process which starts with state mechanisms and gradually reaches out into the everyday lives of ordinary people

Putting all Polly's pro-PiS ranting aside, the point you are making is quite interesting. Observing the political scene from the inside (and not from somewhere outside Poland) and not being particularly prejudiced againt PiS (just like jonno or Harro are), you and I are in a position to confront certain ideas of PiS with facts more objectively than the sides engaged in this political discussion on the PF (which mimics the conflict between PiS against PO themselves). Here are two issues which caught my attention recently:

1. Rafał Ziemkiewicz, fervent PiS supporter, recently spoke very critically about the changes PiS introduces into Poland's judiciary system saying that it is like replacing one horde with another or something along these lines rather than promoting a genuine reform.

2. A few days ago I was watching with fascination a rather long economic program on public TV (TVP3) describing the economic situation in Poland in extremely bright colours and stressing in particular that the budget deficit is to diminish sharply as a result of the wise economic policy of the present government. Then two day after that we all heard the news of the necessity for introducing a fuel fee (opłata paliwowa) of 0,20 zloty per litre.

The best proof are not biased media but the Polish people, ordinary citizens.

The caption in DGP (three branches of government) is actually very good and I can assure you that DGP is not "biased media". It is known, among other things, for the Rigamonti couple of journalist doing interviews for the paper every weekend and no one of their interlocutors has been spared so far, be it they came from PiS, PO or any other party. Thus some people refuse giving them interviews, although Ryszard Czarnecki (now PiS, formerly Samoobrona) was brave enough even if he constantly repeated 'I have been warned against you (Ostrzegano mnie przed Panią)' during the interview. If you or Harold ever gave them an interview, they would have no mercy (although they have style) over either of you. That's what good journalism is all about and that's why it differs from yours (PiS) or Harry's (PO) rather primitive propaganda regularly exercised on the PolishForums.

Fairly recently, Rafał Ziemkiewicz, a very well-known right-wing journalist, author and truly fervent supporter of PiS has started to warn against changes that PiS is making to the judiciary system in Poland. You may retrieve that article somewhere on the wp.pl site (if I remember correctly).

News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

The 87th monthly anniversary of the Smoleńsk crash which was celebrated in Krakowskie Przedmieście in Warsaw yesterday saw people who shouted "Lech Wałęsa" being detained by police, whereas those who decided to shout "Bolek" were left undisturbed - has said TVN in its main news bulletin today.

It is perhaps worth pointing out that "Bolek" and "Lech Wałęsa" is supposed to be the same person precisely.

Genealogy / Are Silesians people German/Germanic? [178]

this concession was towards HRE in return for peace treaty with German empire, not towards Bohemia

What treaty do you have in mind, Gregy?

Poland hanged Silesia over to HRE for peace treaty

Again, what peace treaty was it?

Hitler tried to annex ANY once or formerly held German-speaking territory.

No doubt he would have been crowned Holy Roman Emperor if he had achieved this. And possibly Benito Mussolini would have been elected Pope in order to crown Herr Hitler in Rome. A nice continuation of HRE into modern times!

Genealogy / Are Silesians people German/Germanic? [178]

It was, but you forget that countries forming the Holy Roman Empire fought between themselves, too. And this was the case with Prussia and Austria when the former had taken away Silesia from the latter as a result of a military campaing. This campaign or war took place in 1740-41 and as a result Austria had to cede almost all of Silesia in her possession until then. The most famous battle of that war was the battle of Leuthen (Lutynia) in Lower Silesia.

History / Film "Wałęsa" - historical reality vs myth - controvercies [110]

you should refuse germanzation and stabilize yourself

Every good soul should refuse germanization and brat Mafketis should do as well. And yes, this is an absolute precondition for stabilising oneself.

I suggest you to go to Arkona and pray,

Does this famous Slavic temple in Arkona still exist? I thought it was destroyed by the invading Danes and next this ancient Slavic land was stolen by the Germanic hordes.

back on topic please

Because it's become a morbid death cult exploited for political gain

On the 10th of May of this year I heard this was the 86th monthly Smoleńsk commemoration in Krakowskie Przedmieście in Warsaw. It was absolutely shocking for me.

They got him [Lech Wałęsa] naked.

I've never heard about this incident before. But it seems absolutely shocking and disgusting to do that to Lech Wałęsa at the airport. Yes, there must be something very strange about the Anglos.

There is some controvery around this Światowid of Zbrucz (river in Ukraine presently) as some say it may be a fake figure made in the 19th century to imitate the old Slavic god.

News / Mister President Andrzej Duda - Best Poland could get. [96]

I would sleep better tonight.

I would not.

Andrzej Duda is Poland's most trusted politician, according to a new survey.

Is it the same person who is constantly denied admission to the office room of Our Great and Dearest Leader Jarosław Kaczyński on Nowogrodzka Street in Warsaw as shown in the series "Ucho Prezesa" which series has gained an enormous audience on the internet?

UK, Ireland / Racist ex-priest Międlar tries to fly from Poland to U.K. again. [293]

the radicalisation of the Poles in the UK

Is a revolt of Poles in England against Brexit possible then? The Poles may perhaps unite themselves with the Scots in the purpose of overthrowing the government of Theresa May and then restoring the full British membership in the EU? If a Scottish army could venture to England just as it was in the times of Charles II, this could provoke the revolt of the Poles eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new pro-EU "royalists" from Scotland. Thus a new battle of Worcester could be this time won by the Scots as I doubt that Theresa May would show the same military skills as Oliver Cromwell.

News / The Mayor of Warsaw Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz cuts down 150,000 trees in the Poland's capital. [84]

I would think that that dude knowns what he is doing.

If he knew what he was doing, the law wouldn't have to be subjected to change right now, would it?

Rumour has it that the impuls for changing the Szyszko law came from Our Great and Dearest Leader Jarosław Kaczyński himself after he ventured one night from the headquaters of his party in Nowogrodzka Street into the city of Warsaw and saw so many trees lying cut down throughout his beloved district of Warsaw, Żoliborz (name having been formed in the 18th century after the French words 'joli bord' meaning 'lovely bank' [of the Vistula river]).

I don't have a single drop of toxic, polluted Anglo-Saxon blood in me -- it is 100% Polish.

A question that naturally arises is: with what may Anglo-Saxon blood be polluted? If it is toxic or not, that's an entirely different matter.

enlighten us, oh sagacious one, a policy of right wing socialism?

The closest to have achieved that policy was NSDAP or Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei still known these days because Adolf Hitler was at its head. How that policy of right wing socialism ended, there is no need to remind anyone. Of course, I'm not saying that Our Great and Dearest Leader JK is going to cross the line between democracy and totalitarian. On the contrary, I think he will never do, although some small manipulations towards securing more influence are possible and will be emerging now and again on the example of Mr Orban of Hungary who has managed to build a network of political cliques united by common interests across the country as our Hungarian friends report from time to time in their interviews to the Polish press.

PiS is set to rule for the next 20-30 years so you can continue to grit your teeth all you like hahaha

Since you happen to conveniently observe the Polish political scene from "somewhere in Europe", as is indicated in your profile, I shall tell you that no, we wouldn't be so happy at all to have PiS ruling over Poland for the next 20-30 years. The reason is very simple: every political party being in power for too long will be gradually depriving themselves of the virtues which made them rise to power. I can assure you that PiS will be no exception to that general rule just as PO were not in 2015 (and they run out of steam even before the 12 years of them in power had passed). Human nature, as you know, has never been perfect and will never be, so PiS after 30 years in government will not in the slightest remind the PiS of the election year of 2015, I assure you.

And yet "the English angry trio" which Goofy has just invented seems to be quite an elegant and fresh name to be used from now on.

Life / Comparing Poland and Romania [108]

all Slavs (ie Sarmatians) were happy to avoid destine of Dacia.

Can you tell us something about the language of the Dacians? To which language group did it belong?

Lots of people mistake Romanians as well as Albanians, even Hungarians, for Slavs:-)

I don't know about the Albanians, but the Hungarians assimilated a lot of Slavic people after they arrived in Central Europe - these were the Hungarians who brought the Great Moravia state to collapse. Archeologist Przemysław Urbańczyk says political refugees from Great Moravia laid the foundations for the Polanian state of Mieszko I around Gniezno/Poznań which state later came to be known as Poland. By the way, did you know that Ibrahim ibn Yaqub (אברהם בן יעקב), a Jewish traveller from Tortosa (in today's Spain) who visited Prague in 965/966 observed that the Czechs had dark hair as opposite to the inhabitants of the Polanian state who - according to him - were blond.

boggle, boggle. Your lack of historical knowledge leads to eye boggling. Your complete body must be boggling.

Truly, this is the funniest comment I've ever read on the PF!

News / The dossier of TW "Bolek" - Poland's IPN assisted by police enters the home of the late general Kiszczak [306]

And yet the nocna zmiana film yesterday and the discussion before and after have been very interesting. Irrespectively of what the politics looks like at the moment, the film shows plain historical facts as recorded on an VHS tape during the meeting of the 4th of June 1992. I have seen it for the first time. Remembering well the fuss of 1992 about the government of Jan Olszewski, many facts were shocking to me, especially those about preperaing the deal with the Russians which Olszewski put an end to.

The comments of Jarosław Kaczyński who took part in the panel were rather balanced and not at all agressive towards Lech Wałęsa. The Dear Leader sounded very much as a historian rather than a politician. Also, the info from the film that the status of someone being TW can be found not only in a single file, but in some other 10 dossiers makes the claim of any revealed agent to have been mistakenly registered in one dossier irrelevant.

It was said that the original list of TWs of 1992 was later confirmed in the Milczanowski list for all of them except three two years later when the Olszewski government was already the song of the past.

News / Poland calls on British expertise to analyse the Smolensk accident [49]

PO's then health min. Kopacz said she had surervised the handling of the vicitms remains in Moscow in a comeptemnt and professional manner.

I can confirm that. I distinctly remember Ewa Kopacz speaking about it on the telly. How could the health minister supervise all this? - I was asking myself in wonder! But then I thought: it must be OK, she has qualified as a medical doctor, so she knows what she is talking about ...

She also promised the Rooskies the coffins would not be opened in Poland.

This was a thing that had amazed me most upon hearing it on the telly. How on earth can someone be so stupid to promise the Rooskies such a thing. But what was even worse, PO was fully determined to abide by that propmise ...
