Genealogy / Cities/Villages - Hawastwana, Stemslaw, Hainistariew and Hainstaodie [16]

The name of one of the children of Agata is Bronisław (it's a Polish male name) - other children are Władysława (female), Józefa and Maria (both female) - the rendering of Stanisławów (which is probably where all of those people where born) differs among the documents but these are most probably just clerical mistakes

Ronnie.

that's as close as English names get to Bronisław indeed

@CLS

Birthplace of Agata Scibak looks like Stanisławowsk (or something similar)(maybe Stanisławowa) but it states that it is in Galicia (so most probably in nowadays Ukraine) and I only know a couple of names of major cities there

the nearest relative is named as Karol Rudek (or Rudak) - and his location as Złotniki, Galicja - which I identified ((it's in Ukraine now in the region of Ternopil (Polish Tarnopol) - thanks google)

the children of Agata Scibak seem to be born in Stanisławów (today in Ukraine known as Ivano-Frankivsk)

History / Malinowo: Polish-Nazi Supression? [447]

Jedwabne in "Fear"

i don't know but I have encountered opinions (stating some facts) that Jedwabne case is far from explained and that Gross's book is in no way a historical study

History / Malinowo: Polish-Nazi Supression? [447]

dw.com/en/poland-historians-ordered-to-apologize-over-holocaust-research/a-56507645

do you believe in courts jon? - cause Polish court in 1950 aquitted the man in question (the war-time mayor (mayor for sołtys sounds hillarious) of Malinowo) of collaboration with the Nazis and similar :)

You said:

not in Poland

I said: 'not in Poland' meaning it's not on the news in Poland - which a different search on Google proved me wrong (but with only one result - so hardly a breaking news)

History / Malinowo: Polish-Nazi Supression? [447]

It is in Poland.

I never said Malinowo in question is not in Poland (only that there is no town called Malinowo in Poland) - I meant I haven't seen an article on it in todays Polish internet (but I confirmed since that I found an article on that after a different Google search)

Malinowo that's in the news right now

not in Poland

edit: sorry I haven't googled it properly - it apparently is on the news in Poland too (but on a site with paid-access) - maybe it's also in the paper edition of the newspaper the site belongs too (but I don't read newspapers)

of the town's Jewish population.

there is no such town as Malinowo in Poland (there are multiple villages of the name though) - I don't say anything on the veracity of the claim on the massacre of Jews there and Polish role in it

Food / British food products in Poland? [334]

dry variety or grow one of the existing ones.

because of the preferences of the Polish populace - Poles prefer waxy potatoes to powdery potatoes

Food / British food products in Poland? [334]

can't say if it is inferior to Western products of the kind but here in Poland masmix is cheaper than the Western brands

Food / British food products in Poland? [334]

have stuff like Masmix spread

in case you didn't know Masmix is a mixture of vegetable (usually rapeseed) oil with butter - the mixture is easy to smear on a slice of bread and it tastes much better than margarines

Genealogy / What does my Polish name mean? [402]

Kielkucki

it means from/of Kielkuty (or possibly Kielkut) where Kielkuty is a place name (most probably a village) - the place can't be found in present day Poland and it sounds like a polonized Lithuanian place name

there is a village Kiełkuty near Olsztyn in Poland but the area was not part of Poland before 1945

(as an afterthough Kiełkuty may be the origin of your surname but it's not certain)

History / Information required on location of WW2 prisoner of war working parties ( arbeits kommandos ) in Poland [15]

if your family memeber worked in a coal mine then it's probably in Koenigshuette/Chorzów because it's in a coal bearing region - Blachownia/Blechhammer is near Kędzierzyn-Koźle - there is no coal on the site but it is near enough to the Upper Silesia coal bearing region and on a major railway line - that's why it was probably chosen as the side of the hydrogenation plant

the first scan shows medical records - your family member received some sort of vaccination in 1940 (I guess TY stands for typhus)

Study / Which Universities in Poland offer courses in Sound Engineering? [7]

acoustic engineering is taught in AGH (a technical university) in Kraków but their site doesn't say anything if they offer the courses in English - here's the contact webpage of AGH: international.agh.edu.pl/eng/contact-us/

Language / Short Polish<->English translations [1049]

me-dah, mida, mee-duh.

there's no such word in Polish - the closest is the phrase 'mi da' which means: (someone) will give me - (mi here is me, and da - will give)
