History / Poland - problem for Germany? (historically continual hostility of German state on Poland) [154]

less protectionist

Hahahaha. Poland is incredibly protectionist in quite a few areas.

wiadomosci.onet.pl/tylko-w-onecie/maturalny-przekret-jak-budzet-panstwa-tracil-miliony-na-drukowaniu-egzaminow-przez/tkd3mnt - this wouldn't happen in France.

New economic order in Europe would benefit Poland.

New economic order in Europe means Germany and France with their highly integrated economy telling Poland what to do and what not to do. Poland would have no choice but to comply, because those two would no longer be bound by common EU rules, meaning they could quite easily demand considerable concessions from Poland.

Nationalist fantasies where Poland is somehow an economic super power despite having a pretty crappy tech sector (no, outsourcing doesn't count), barely any raw materials and a heavy reliance on imported energy are just that, fantasies.

Life / Are Poles mentally more Eastern European or Western European? [170]

And since 1949 it has reverted back to the former.

Unlike Poland of course, which tried to decentralise things in 1998 and failed miserably. Today, the (unelected) provincial governors wield an extraordinary amount of power compared to the democratically elected provincial governments.

News / Poland in the European Union. Polexit? [559]

And most people aren't and they've got their ZUS contributions deducted from their monthly salaries.

In order to make sure that older Polish people have some money to live on. Social solidarity, given that the older generation had it far more difficult than this one. I appreciate that Korwinists couldn't care less about society, but that's largely because most of them are living off their parents money anyway.

But let's take a look at VAT tax in Switzerland: standard rate is 7.7%, special 3.7%, reduced 2.5%

That's still not telling the whole picture.

swissinfo.ch/eng/business/high-steaks_getting-your-teeth-into-swiss-meat-prices/43748802

You might pay lower taxes, but then you get hit with considerably higher costs. The "Swiss tax" in terms of everything being a lot more expensive in CH is well known, even when you'd think that things such as electronics and machinery should be the same price. The amount of regulation in CH is remarkable as well - and unlike Poland, they're much more efficient when it comes to catching people and fining them.

And now a little challenge: I dare you to opt out of public pension scheme. Just try and see what happens :-)

Remarkably ill informed, given that there are a multitude of ways to do just in Poland.

Then take a look at the numbers

Tax is more than just income tax. You need to look at the overall picture, which includes issues such as the Swiss using car mechanics for everything, even routine things that anyone can do, such as changing oil. Or the rubbish taxes, or the high fines for all manner of strange things that would never be an issue in Poland. Property taxes are also quite a burden, as are the high import fees on beef.

Not to mention the Swiss regulations, which are incredibly protectionist, particularly in terms of dairy and meat products. It's certainly not a free for all at all, and the "low tax" stuff is largely a myth.

News / Poland in the European Union. Polexit? [559]

Being a part of an EU in its current form is the worst possible option.

The vast majority of Poles feel otherwise.

Still, for all your buzzwords that you learnt at the Korwinist youth camp, it rather fails when you consider that the EU has been dominated by conservatives since the beginning.

History / What is Poles opinion on Intermarium (Międzymorze)? [188]

Right now both of those engines are running at full power

They're not running at all. You're promoting a fantasy that simply doesn't exist in reality.

In fact, the Czechs under Babis support Nord Stream 2. So, as we have it, the Czechs want Nord Stream 2 as they'll get large transit fees, the Slovaks are halfway through a long term gas deal with Russia and the Hungarians are about to sign a long term gas deal, as well as the nuclear power deal which will result in complete Hungarian dependence on Russian energy. All of this means that there's very little political support for Polish ideas, not least because gas supplied by Poland will be significantly more expensive than Russian gas. For most people in the V4 (especially in rural Slovakia and Hungary), they're not going to accept 20-30% higher gas bills just because Poland wants to play.

Poland needs it until we build up out economic and military power to a level in which it would be completely unprofitable

And where's the money coming from? The same fantasy source that claims the V4 to be a strong alliance and not just a hilarious local talking shop?

History / What is Poles opinion on Intermarium (Międzymorze)? [188]

This will basically change the entire game for Central Europe.

Not really. It's a Warsaw fantasy, but the reality is that expensive Norwegian gas and expensive US LNG will not replace Russian gas, especially for countries such as Hungary which have just signed lovely long term deals with Gazprom.

hungarytoday.hu/szijjarto-hungary-enter-long-term-gas-delivery-agreement-russia-2021/

Slovakia also has little interest in it, as they're in the middle of a long term gas deal with Russia.

Consider that the cost at delivery will be higher than Russian gas (whether it's direct or via Germany), and that Poland will also want large fees for storage/transit, it's simply going to be completely uncompetitive against the price of Russian gas.

So, it's actually not a game changer at all, but rather a way to lock Poland into hugely expensive gas supplies and to increase dependence on Poland on the US, neither of which is a desirable outcome.

Life / Place of Living Choice: Poland vs Hungary vs Germany [44]

If you're starting your career, Poland is a no-brainer these days. It's a very easy place to get promoted to manager level in a corporation, then to transfer out to a place of your choosing.

News / PO to boycott TVP in Poland [37]

even PiS supporters, or certainly people on the right who are general for PiS over PO or Nowoczesna, have noticed the over the top bias in TVP.

Apparently even Morawiecki has had enough of Kurski, and the only reason he's still in the job is because Kaczyński refuses to fire him for whatever reason.

The interesting thing for me about the right wing media is why it's doing so badly. If there's such demand for what they publish, why are they heavily relying on state-controlled companies for 'sponsorship'?

It seems to me that the lack of genuinely private right wing media in Poland is proof that voters aren't really interested in right wing social politics.

Except it's wrong to count only one party when the opposition is made up of KO/PSL/SLD in this election.

News / PO to boycott TVP in Poland [37]

They weren't a victory. The largest mayoral election they won was in Zamość, and KO-PSL beat them in terms of the number of seats to provincial parliaments.

They actually lost very badly in most cities, including in places such as Nowy Sącz.

The last credible poll gave them 34-26% over PO, but Biedron on 8%. Kukiz'15 is on the edge of the threshold, and with those results, they won't be able to put together a majority.

Life / Feeling ashamed of my Polish heritage. [237]

The male descendants might carry on the German surname for hundreds of years.

My friend has a very German name. They traced it back, and they were clear Poles at the time of the partitions. The family oral history also doesn't mention anything about them speaking German, and there are some records showing that one of them was a Polish trader. Yet obviously one of them was German, so what does it make her?

So all that makes someone Polish is having Polish citizenship?

Most people would say citizenship and a genuine understanding of the culture.

PiS have plenty to do with it, because it was their politically appointed prosecutors that discontinued the case.

Again, ask yourself, what would you do if someone made such a thing of you?

or would rather begin the slow but sure destruction of the Polish ethnicity for the sake of pursuing short-term economic gains.

What's Polish ethnicity? Plenty of Polish people have German last names, just as many Germans have obviously Polish last names.

Work / Poland Work Permit / Study Visa Processing Times [191]

I have had many frustrations with Polish red tape in business. Banking laws, among other things change quite frequently without notice.

Oh, this is a completely different story, and I agree with you on the need for a decent lawyer in this case. Likewise with taxes - while you don't need someone from the Big 4 to do the accounts, should there be any problems, then you need the best.

Be careful with awards in Poland. Many of them are simply bought by people sponsoring the event, and it's a common practice here.

The public prosecutors have to put their case before a judge

I think you're making excuses for not reporting what you know.

If they had evidence they would reveal it instead of this 'soon to be revealed' nonsense....

Dear Bolkusz is just behaving like all the others. He doesn't have any evidence, all he has is the word of Macierewicz.

Poland's corrupt judicial system...

If it's corrupt, I suggest you go to the public prosecutors with your evidence. So far, they haven't produced any evidence of corruption.

Where do you get 3+ years?

PiS won the elections in 2015, and a few months later, claimed that they had the truth about the crash. In fact, they kept making that claim up until a few months before the local elections, when it was conveniently forgotten about. These days, no-one is talking about it.

Still, if you have proof that it was an assassination, please contact the public prosecutors AND the right wing media.

Work / Poland Work Permit / Study Visa Processing Times [191]

Proving you can actually afford to live in Poland is critical.

Actually, it isn't. It's a non-issue, as witnessed by the huge amount of residence permits handed out to non-EU citizens. It's not something I agree with, but Poland is quite happy to issue a work permit and residence permit to someone that wants to work in Amazon or similar warehouse. Even if you own your own company, the requirement is a mere 2 employees on a full time contract or that the company revenues total at least 12 x the average monthly wage in the last quarter. As it stands, it's what, around 60k PLN a year? That's nothing for a serious business, and furthermore, the first residence permit is usually granted on the basis of a business plan showing that the business will attain that in the first year.

Proving that you have ties to Poland is also meaningless. They want photocopies so that they can make sure that the documents are genuine and in case you have some interesting travel history, but that's about it. For the average Arab or Indian, they have zero ties to Poland, but they can still easily obtain work permits and residence permits. Poland frankly doesn't care about 'ties', they only care about workers paying into ZUS.

Spending money on experts doesn't change a thing. For a start, basic knowledge of Polish law - an application submitted by post has the same effect as applying in person. The most efficient way to apply is by making notarised copies of all your documents, then submitting those documents by post along with the application form and photographs. The notarised copies have the same weight as presenting the documents in person, yet saves considerable time and effort by the person making the application. Provided the application is in order, and you receive the "confirmation of postage", then you have a legally accepted method of staying in Poland until they call you to get the stamp in the passport to extend your stay.

Money talks and B#11$### walks is still an accurate statement in Poland.

Perhaps from your foreign point of view. In reality, you'll be processed the same way as anyone else. If money indeed talked, you'd get the decision within weeks, not months. 6 months is pitiful for someone that retained an expensive lawyer, especially as you can get the hearing in the Administrative Courts quite quickly.

Don't be seduced by coffee and comfortable chairs. Many people in Poland will tell you that image does not guarantee quality.

Work / Poland Work Permit / Study Visa Processing Times [191]

I am sure I will get denied

You won't get denied, you've just wasted your money paying lawyers to do something that you can do by yourself. It's easy to see how one can be seduced by a nice office and good coffee, but in reality, the work will be done by the office junior who hasn't done the application process yet.

I do not know what I was thinking when I believed that business investment and experts with these matters could influence the project.

It doesn't matter in the slightest to those that decide on residence permits. As long as you meet the laughably low requirements, you'll be accepted.

I'm sure that Kaczyński is not all that fond of closer links to the people who assassinated his brother,

Except he wasn't assassinated. If he wasn't fond of closer links, why did he meet Putin sympathiser Salvini?

BTW, if you have proof that he was assassinated, please inform the public prosecutors. It's been 3+ years now and still no evidence of an assassination.

That fact that this judge wears this t-shirt and engages in political manifestations most certainly shows her lack of independence.

Except it doesn't. Why is promoting the Constitution of the Republic of Poland a political thing? A judge is perfectly allowed to promote the reading of the highest source of law in Poland.

But somehow breaking the rules does not seem to apply to

You're repeating PiS propaganda word for word. Do try harder.
