Nope, illegal migrants don`t have time to reside in Polish forests and air-dry their clothes there coz they are busy with being transported to Germany.

Life / Do you collect mushrooms in your country? Poles in Poland do. [94]

I might have eaten oyster mushrooms in some bigos without knowing about it :)

You`d better be careful. One day you might eat Psilocibin fungi in your bigos and then you will become badly addicted to the dish. HA!

But how do you grow wild mushrooms?

On trunks. I have shown them in Countryside thread. Simple. :)

They don`t get paid anymore in Deutsche Mark which used to be the second currency after dollar in the value ranking long ago.

Have you tried those winter mushrooms?

We have been eating oyster mushrooms since they appeared in shops for the first time about 20 years ago. But recently we have our own crops from the farm - the last harvest was 2 weeks ago.

They have cool names, btw :)

Yes, I love those names of various species in fungi, plants and animals world

News / Famous Poles die - your memories [112]

Famous actor Leonard Pietraszak died at 86. As a boy, I loved watching him in the TV series Black Clouds and 40 Year Old Man, then in Vabank 1 and 2 as a young adult. And other cult productions, too. Amazing actor. Thank you for all this entertainment you gave us.

Leonard Pietraszak as a corrupt banker , suspected by the police of robbing his own bank, is doing his best to find alibi and prove he`s innocent. This scene has English subtitles but contains words like Murzyn so watch out. .

Vabank 1

Travel / Do Poles like to hunt? Hunting in Poland. [211]

He himself decided to change his gun for a photo camera.

Much more rewarding than killing.

he was a vegetarian while he was still hunting

Utter madness.

Coming back to Mickiewicz`s epic poem

the previoius episode was about playing the hunting horn after the hunting party manages to kill a bear in Lithuanian forests:

Now, let`s read about bear hunt proper.:

First, the news of a bear leaving the wilderness reaches the gentry who become extremely agitated. It means that in 1811 bears must have become a hunting rarity in Lithuania:

Serving dishes were quietly passed around,
when suddenly the routine course of dinner
was interrupted by a crashing sound.
The forester, upset, rushed in the door
and faced the Judge and stood there dumbly panting
as the whole room turned toward the head table.
He unleashed words, ―:A bear, Milord" granting
all else to conjecture. The Judge was able
to surmise that a bear had slipped across
the river Nieman and now must be pursued.

News / How could PiS better spend billions instead of 500+ ? [280]

Who should be ruling Poland?

Anybody except rightists or leftists. Someone in the middle. Intelligent, sensible, devoid of anti European obsessions, not relying on infantile emotions while holding power.

Pawian....?

No, coz we need serious guys who can clean the swamp after rightists. I am too comedy-oriented.

with coded safe

About 15 years ago I was teaching at a hunter`s house - he had a safe for his hunting rifle. One day I come and see a hole in the wall and the safe missing. They told me the house had been broken into and the burglars had only taken the safe which they had simply ripped off from the wall with crowbars.

It took place in broad daylight while everybody in the family was at work or school. And the neighbours didn`t hear or notice anything.

I guess such cases when burglars target guns mainly would be quite frequent under new laws.

News / Polish PM Tusk- dictator or not? What Poles think? [455]

Mr Donald Tusk isn`t a dictator but he knows how to knock PiS dictators out, pointing to their scams, lies, corruption and abuse of power against democracy and constitution.

E..g, recently Donald Tusk, the chairman of the Civic Platform, was indignant last week at a meeting with voters in Siedlce.

"Prime Minister Morawiecki, when he and his government assured Poles that inflation would fall from 6 percent to down, just at that time he bought bonds, he invested a lot of his private money, which really gives a good profit when there is high inflation," "This year, which has just begun, he will earn over PLN 0.5 million, and for the time the bonds were scheduled for, i.e. until 2025, he will have earned a total of PLN 2 million. Due to inflation, high prices,"

News / R. Trzaskowski, current mayor of Warsaw, future President of Poland [354]

Mr Future President of Poland Trzaskowski comments on the latest PiS scam scandal:

I hope that all this type of abuse will be clarified when PiS gives up power, said Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski in "Fakty po Faktach", commenting on the granting of millions of subsidies from the Ministry of Education to foundations associated with PiS. In his opinion, such actions look "as if PiS already knew that it would lose the election and was trying to secure itself for the future." - It is a pity that for public money - added the deputy head of PO.

Journalists of tvn24.pl described how money from the fund of the Minister of Education and Science, Przemysław Czarnek, went to organizations close to PiS. Multi-million subsidies were allocated for the purchase of new premises. Houses in Warsaw's Mokotów and Ursynów, an apartment in a historic tenement house and a plot with two ponds, its own forest and a "beekeeper's house" are just some of the 12 properties that Czarnek financed with public money. Meanwhile, many organizations dealing with education and teaching institutions did not receive a single zloty from the ministry's budget.

Language / Is the term 'Polak' derogatory?? [254]

I must admit a little sin - I have used the term Polack, too. Mainly when debating with Poloniusz - I called him American Polack by which I meant a conservatively narrow-minded, antiSemitic, ultrarightist, quarrelsome, abusive, offensive person.

Now, that we face WW3, I can admit it without constraint.

Travel / Do Poles like to hunt? Hunting in Poland. [211]

In the past hunters played real horns to give signals to each other

Pan Tadeusz epic poem by Mickiewicz contains a fragment about amazing horn play by an experienced hunter after the hunting party managed to kill a bear in Lithuanian forests:

Then the Seneschal reached into his belt
and pulled out from among the cartridges,
a bison horn, dappled, like a snake coiled.
With both hands, he held it to his parted
lips, puffing out his cheeks like a balloon, his eyes
bloodshot. Then his entire breath went
to his lungs by sucking in to half its size
his stomach-and a gale-like wind was sent
into the forest, music doubled by echo.
Hunters silenced, marveling at the might,
the pure tones and harmony he blew.
For the old man, within earshot and sight,
exhibited a legendary skill.

how knackered I was when I got home. Sleep like a dead man,

That suggests you were an active hunter who broke through the jungle after his prey. While too many hunters stay passive at the base and wait until hounds maneuver the prey to them.
