yeh mediawatch apparently you will find that actually the movie 'Enigma' gave credit to the Americans! Ignoring both the Polish mathemeticians AND ' the Brit' Turing and the rest of the team at Bletchley!

When was the last time anyone heard an anti-Polish joke (I mean a Pole-hating joke) in a bar, or on TV or film?

good question Roger - in my case, never.
Some British comedians have mentioned Polish people in their routines but never in a nasty way. It is usually about how hard working they are, eg AlMurray the pub landlord.

although of course the 'dumb Polack' joke is more of an American thing I suppose.
Here we have/had the 'Irish' joke some of which were downright offensive.

well i went into Lidl all excited about Polish week, esp hoping for some nice big bag of paluszki, but all that was there was some kind of fake Kubus,

some weird thin sausages, and meat peirogi. Came away empty handed....
Perhaps a swarm of all the Polish people in the area had descended and carried off all the nice stuff.....

What is british beer besides Carling?

British beer is not lager, the clue is in the German name.
Traditional British would be ale, eg Newcastle Brown to name the most famous., or 'stout' ale the most famous being Guinness, yes I know that is Irish but still. There is a wonderful range of good ales available these days with amusing names such as Bishops Finger or Fursty Ferret.

they are nothing to do with what you were talking about which was simple and progressive I think!
or did you just feel a bit smart mentioning the King James Bible and Shakespeare and thought that would blind people to their total irrelevance!!

if you are resident in the UK, why not ask the DVLA - I am sure their information would be more reliable than people on a forum.
