News / PiS candidates are losing positions in EU Parliament. Will they keep power in Poland? [358]

so it might be easier (and quicker) for Poland to catch up!

does he take the looming demographic crisis in Poland into account?

I haven't read my e-book yet. But I hope to let you know what the major issues of the problem might be according to the author as soon as I read the book. Personally, I'm very interested in the subject.

When one day Poland reaches the economic level of Germany

For anyone interested in the subject, a good book on that by a renown Polish economist Witold Orlowski:

Will Poland Catch Up With Germany?
[Acording to a report by the Warsaw Enterprise Institute, it is possible in 40 years (catching up with France in 15-20 years)]

Life / Do you know these characters from Polish movies? [223]

I thought we should try with something more distinctive

Who is this?

This is Marysia in the film "Poszukiwany, poszukiwana" (1973), one of my favorite comedy films, a film directed by Stanisław Bareja. A perfect description of the PRL years, a film that is becoming even better as the years pass on.

History / The reasons of Polish pride? [112]

Get a grip.. Ziemowit asked about the battle, not war.

Indeed, I asked why the battle was hopeless and got a reply that Texas won three years later.

And three years later (or so) became the State of Texas so they won.

No, it wasn't, even remotedly, a reply to my answer.

History / The reasons of Polish pride? [112]

So, again, why, knowing the outcome, would anyone offer 100%-futile resistance against an overwhelmingly stronger enemy

For exactly the same reasons WHY the defenders of Alamo, KNOWING THE OUTCOME, did.

It wasn't Z, Texas won a couple years later if you haven't noticed. lol

But first, they lost at Alamo. The same happened to Poland. First she lost and later she won, if you havent noticed. LOL

Also did you notice in all your googling that the State of Texas is more than twice as big as the country of Poland ?

I don't believe the state of Texas is twice as big as Poland just as I don't believe that the Earth is round, but first of all I don't believe that Rich Mazur is a son of Polish scientist Marian Mazur.

History / The reasons of Polish pride? [112]

So what was the logical explanation of this heroic stand as demanded by that smart American ass Rich Mazur?

Never heard of the Alamo battle, but I suspect that the state of Texas tried to repel the U.S. invasion and agression against them. Why was the battle hopeless?

Genealogy / What does my Polish name mean? [402]

Contrary to that, Narcyz (male name) would not sound nice, but I'm not even sure if such a male name exists in Polish.

Have you heard

Yes, I have. One of my acquaintances' name is Narcyza. A rare name, but sounds really nice in Polish.

History / Regaining Poland's Independence in 1918 - 'Unconquered' video by IPN released [18]

Has the IPN ever reminded us of this popular saying circulating among the population in November 1918?
Ni z tego ni z owego, a tu Polska na pierwszego!

The saying underlined the fact that re-gaining independence as a result of the WW I came as a great surprise to many ...

Life / Getting a Polish Heritage tattoo - how would Poles react? [26]

As for Rich Mazur's comment, he's just trolling.

Trolling heavily and in a most disgusting way. For deliberately misleading posters asking genuine questions, RM should get a suspension, but mods are very, very tolerant on this forum.

Tattoos are very common in Poland both for guys and girls

This is very, very true.

Which only shows it is not that difficult to step over from a post-communists party to a party which so pompuosly calls itself "Law and Justice".

Love / Help my Polish wife hates sex [47]

the whole thread is BS and I would advice OP to be more specific

I think the same. Internet fora are like the PF will not provide any help for people with such problems. A professional councillor is needed, if not for the partner, then for the person who is complaining.

I suspect the OP is nothing more than a troll who wants to get some amusement from the thread. The following phrase gives him away:

Any other men married to Polish women going through the same here?

The problem just cannot be specific to "Polish women", but is a problem that just an individual person may have irrespective of their nationality . No need for the OP to be more specific. He is just a troll.

Genealogy / Which Polish first names are considered unpopular / obsolete in Poland? [124]

Actually, Lechites is the name attributed to Polish tribes as an entity. There wasn't an individual Polish tribe which united with other Polish tribes to form Poland.

A funny limerick which comprises the name "Lechita" here:

Kto powiedział, że Moskale
Są to bracia dla Lechitów,
Temu pierwszy w łeb wypalę
Przed kościołem Karmelitów.

Genealogy / Which Polish first names are considered unpopular / obsolete in Poland? [124]

Frank is Franciszek (Franek ) - very popular now.

These days - yes! But for the generation one or two earlier than the parents of today names such as Franciszek will always be associated with elder people. My grand-dad's name, for example, was Franciszek, and my great grand-mother's name was Franciszka. Thus, I have always thought these names were meant for very old people only!

The name of my grand-dad's father was Kacper and it is also a name that has been revived recently.

Genealogy / Wladyslaw and the English equivalent [22]

I shall perhaps remind everyone that an old-fashioned, slightly ironic, Polish name for the penis is "wacek". I have recently seen the word in this context in "LALKA" by Bolesław Prus, a novel first published in Warsaw in 1890. At the same time 'Wacek' is a male name.

Wacek = Wally ?

History / Communism fell 20 years ago, Poland led the fight since WW2 [341]

PiS government [...] and their manipulative and lying propaganda reminds of communist times

The main celebrations of the 4th of June event will take place in Gdańsk today. On that occasion one of the oppositionists in the PRL Zbigniew Janas talked in Radio ZET this morning about Lech Kaczyński telling him of the talks in Magdalenka and during the so-called Round Table.

- Lech Kaczyński was proud of having taken part in those events, said Zbigniew Janas. If today we talk about Magdalenka in terms of treason, we insult the memory of Lech Kaczyński, he added.

Mr. Janas went on to describe the recent exhibition in the famous BHP room of the former Lenin shipyard in Gdańsk. - Everything on that exhibition led to that "infamous" "Magdalenka treason" - he said. How do you think - whose picture was missing there on the exhibition? - asked Mr. Janas. The picture of Mr. Lech Kaczyński who was taking part in the talks of Magdalenka. That's how history can be falsified and re-written anew - concluded Zbigniew Janas.

Is that this "manipulative and lying propaganda of the PiS government" you had in mind, Pawian?

Also, there was a guy in the UK who put a cat into the microwave oven for three minutes. Not sure if the cat survived, but the locals were furious at the perpetrator.
