Name a British or Irish PM you don't or didn't trust.

Depends on what you mean by trust. Ireland has had quite a few slippery customers as Taoiseach but they're mostly of the 'gombeen man' variety. You can look that up for your homework. There's plenty I didn't like, Charlie Haughey, Albert Reynolds, Bertie Ahern but Charlie wasn't of the gombeen variety. You can look him up as well. A significant figure in modern Irish history along with Garret Fitzgerald whom I DID like; he was a man of great integrity.

huge literary tradition

There's a big difference between literature/quality journalism and the type of dangerous drivel flooding the world nowadays. But I think that silencing people is not an ideal way forward. We've reached a point where we need to address this issue in schools. Teens need to be educated about how to determine whether an information source is credible.

ignore him

"Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing. "

@Barney, thanks for the heads up :)

@Maf, I'm sure the government collects that data but as we have only a tiny percentage of non-white migrants (and I'm assuming that's who you mean) and many of them have been in Ireland for years, I'm not sure it's quite the issue you imagine. Most of our idle scroungers are Irish.

Then they have nothing to fear

Indeed they don't. Irish people for the most part are moderate in their views.

But we live in a different world nowadays. There are people in the world like Crnogorac3 on this very forum who are attempting to get inside the heads of younger people who lack the judgement and experience to recognize propaganda when they hear it - a propaganda aimed at undermining and dividing civilised countries. We have to do something about that.

Irish people will still be able to express their views publicly but people with sinister motives and agendas hopefully won't have so much of a platform.

Let's just wait and see how it unfolds.

income tax

Don't you pay any income tax in Serbia? That would explain why the country is on its arse.

75% of Irish people thought we were taking too many refugees.

What? Irish people think Serbia takes too many refugees?? I didn't know we were so fascinated by Serbian affairs. But then I suppose it's understandable seeing as you're so concerned about ours.

Prime Minister of the UK BoJo

And of course, the Brits are experts on Ireland, aren't they? As witnessed by their superb handling of Northern Ireland over the years.

Violent revolution is correct.

Dangerous words to speak from the safety of your second-hand gaming chair in Serbia. You won't incite civil war in Ireland that easily.

@Maf, who is portraying the riots as race related? Certainly not any credible source in Ireland, or any normal Irish people, of whom, thankfully the population is largely composed.

It's hard to explain but look, I know Dublin and its people like the back of my hand. I grew up there. I've lived there most of my life. I taught in the inner city. I may well have taught some of those who were doing the rioting the other night! I know the kids, the parents, the grandparents, the whole vibe. I know the nuances right down to the profile of each different block of flats. Iveagh Trust buildings - largely decent people. Oliver Bond - enter at your peril. St Theresa's Gardens - ditto etc. etc.

There are some very good people living in inner city Dublin but I've seen how the city has changed over the decades and the growth of a bone idle welfare class with a lifestyle ranging from petty crime and vandalism to serious assault and drug related crimes. Believe me, they have ZERO interest in politics, zero civic spirit, zero to offer or contribute.

Yes - and Irish people don't like him on the whole. He's considered an embarrassment. His fan base is composed of exactly the type who ran amok in the city the other night.

brain tumour which changed his behaviour.

Anti immigration protest broke out!

A bunch of inner city Dublin skangers used a tragedy as an excuse to rampage through the streets, terrorizing the general public while looting and stealing all they could get their filthy, little thieving hands on.

"Staff and customers of the Arnotts department store that was looted during Thursday's riots in Dublin have been left "shaken", according to its chief executive Donald McDonald, who added that the perpetrators should be ashamed of their actions."

"Breaking into Arnott's and stealing clothing is not an act of political statement- it's criminality." said Minister for Public Expenditure, Paschal O'Donohoe

otherwise they would vote for parties who would call for harsher treatment of criminals

Ireland has always been a centrist country with very little difference between the main political parties.

But you don't vote for a party in Ireland. Your ballot paper has a list of all the candidates in your constituency and you mark them in order of preference by numbering them eg. 1 for your first choice, 2 for your second and so on, as many or as few as you want. If your first choice doesn't get enough votes to be elected your vote is transferred to your second choice. If he gets enough votes at the first count, the surplus votes are transferred to your second choice.

We're the only country in the EU apart from Malta which has this system. It's called single transferrable vote proportional representation (STV).

like in many US states

Can't see Ireland in any way following the US model in anything to do with politics and justice.

if you want to babble in Gaelic do it somewhere else.

Now, now, you sound like Oliver Cromwell. I'll speak my language wherever I want to and anyway I didn't use any Irish, so what are you on about?

the opression is both before and after they came to the lucky country,

The Irish who went to Australia either through transportation or as free settlers generally did well for themselves, partly because they were literate. At one time in the 19th century nearly the entire police force of Victoria was Irish!

why not fairies?

Unidentified man armed with knife attacks staff in Aldi Store, Dublin this evening.
What has happened Ireland? 🇮🇪

Joke's on you - this guy was a lovely example of our very own home-grown scum. Yeah, that's right, he was a pasty-faced little Irish toe-rag.

Why was he allowed back on our streets to commit this crime?

Because the guy was a nutter as opposed to a 'criminal'. Ireland has a chronic shortage of care facilities and resources for the mentally ill. But even if he had been a criminal, he would still probably got off with a suspended sentence or similar because the Irish courts are notoriously lenient on offenders. That's one of the reasons we have a problem with gangs of local Dublin scum-bags roaming the streets of the inner city, literally giving the Gardai the finger.

soda farls and potato bread

Oh God yes, I'd forgotten about them. We have potato cakes down south and I've seen soda farls for sale in packs but they wouldn't be as good as the freshly made ones.

even if I'm pretty sure they don't exist.

That reminds me of some public figure years ago, who was asked about something to do with planning permission in area where there was a fairy tree or something. He replied that he didn't believe in fairies 'even if they do exist' :) I think a lot of Irish people, particularly from down the country, would be very reluctant to deny their existence outright.

This is a nice bit about the Banshee.

Well now Novi, being Irish, I know the problems my country faces better than anyone on this forum. The main problems in Ireland have nothing to do with migrant crime. We have no large migrant groups causing mayhem. There simply isn't a history of it.

What we do have, is a MAJOR problem with scumbags in the inner city of Dublin. There is a particular issue with teenagers committing violent crimes, assaults etc. on innocent passers by at any hour of the day. We then have their extended families of fathers, uncles etc. many of whom are involved in organized crime and drug dealing. This is Ireland's real problem. It's never been addressed and people are becoming increasingly fed up of it.

Those are actually the ones who did the rioting the other night. We have lots of names for them: scrotes, scumbags, skangers, gurriers. Take your pick. They are the problem we need to solve.

An Irish breakfast will consist of fried eggs, rashers of bacon, sausages, black pudding, white pudding. You can also have mushrooms but they're not always standard. Usually you'll get fried tomatoes too. An English breakfast won't have the black and white pudding and may have baked beans. An authentic Irish breakfast is accompanied by brown or white soda bread. An English breakfast will have toast and, or fried bread. The Brits might use tinned tomatoes, the Irish won't.

also

Never mind the 'also'. What are you on about in relation to the tax office? I never suggested anybody try to 'scare' their landlord. Btw, stop telling EU citizens that they need to pass a Polish language test to live permanently in Poland.

a dumb fool

Is there any other kind? If anybody should be an expert on fools it would be you having so much to work with yourself.

house cleaning profession is an insult.

I don't - but you do. You have a very typical attitude of the lower levels of Indian society, the sort of upper working class, who think they're better than the street cleaners because their skin is a shade lighter. And now you're a blue collar guy in a suburb of Chicago - well done.

keep to your house cleaning profession

If you spoke English properly, and were a bit cleverer you'd say 'stick to charring'. Of course, the fact that you think that calling somebody a cleaner is an insult reveals a lot about you.

Real Estate / Would you rent from me? [24]

if you and the tenant sign an agreement

There are a few different types of tenancy agreement. Depending on which one you choose, it can be much easier to get a tenant out. But it's still a headache.

" If the tenant does not return the premises, the owner is forced to go to court, because uniformed officers cannot step in. The whole case may take up to several months (and we must also remember about the period between November-March, when eviction cannot take place). All of this proves that the lessee may live in a premises long after the date on which the premises should have been returned. In this situation, the law puts the owner in a very disadvantageous position."

Real Estate / Approximate cost for interior finishing. [3]

How do you communicate this?

Just tell them. You're the client. You're paying for the service.

Sure if he also getting something from the products I'm buying...

You should have received a detailed quote with prices clearly set out for the service, labour costs and materials separately. I hope you didn't pay the full bill upfront.

What are the possible cost for interior finishing?

How long is a piece of string ........... depends on how much per sqm you pay for materials and what the labour costs are. If you shop around you can often get discounts by negotiating directly with the supplier. For example we bought solid oak flooring for our house from a wood supplier rather than a shop. Much better quality and good price. We used this guy:

drew-rem.pl/

With things like bathroom fittings, you can often negotiate a discount if you buy more than one item.

I suggest stick to your house cleaning profession

I don't object to your having a different viewpoint to mine. However, I do object to you telling lies. Disagree and tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about by all means but stop pretending that I'm a house cleaner. This is silly and dishonest. Disagree me with as the person I am, not the person you would like me to be. You tell a lot of lies about a lot of people on this forum just for the sake of being rude - and incidentally you are frequently wrong about things yourself and display a great deal of ignorance on numerous topics.

Maybe the deal can be that the person rents first for 5 years for a lower price the 3000 zl/month? Then buy it for a profit?

I notice in another post you mentioned that your home country is Sweden. That kind of arrangement may work there where everything is much more orderly but Polish renting culture is a bit rough and ready. You're very unlikely to find a tenant who will enter into such a complex (to them) arrangement and legal issues could arise if they stop paying the rent, which they could well do. It's quite common in Poland for tenants to default on rent and it's very difficult to evict them, especially if they have children.

if this is a thing in Poland first.

No, it isn't.

Very expensive for Olsztyn

Agree.

Maybe a family who wants save up for their own house would rent from me?

Your proposed rent is too high to allow an average family to save a deposit for their own house.

electricty prices are still high.

They're not that bad. If people keep their consumption to a low/moderate level there is a fixed, government guaranteed price at an affordable level.

UK, Ireland / Insuring & driving a car on French plates from UK to Poland [7]

so many symbols in the plates.

The KE stands for Kerry. There are 26 counties in the Republic of Ireland so depending on where the car was first registered you'll have the letters for the county on the plate. The full name of the county is written in Irish above the number. The numbers represent the year and whether the car was registered in the first half or second half of that year and the final digits show where it falls in the sequence of cars registered. Unlike Poland, the plates go with the car for life

would i be okay to use someone else's vehicle if they have AC or OC insurance.

You can check their insurance documents or they can call the insurance company and check. In Poland it's the car that's insured and not the driver, so it should be ok, but check first.

I don't remember being scared. We loved ghost stories and they were always told on Halloween but we also played games and just had fun. I WAS terrified of the Banshee though. For some reason I had the idea that she'd kill me! Of course she's just a harbinger of death, she won't actually harm you.
