Life / Can someone tell me about the reason behind being gay in Poland being wrong [148]

it is so sad that some fanatics are ready to murder other people only for being different than themselves

But the Polish government says that it is the LGBT who constantly attack and want to destroy Polish families.

this religion is used by many as an excuse for intolerance and hatred, when neither of things were what the skinny one preached

Yesterday I saw a three-hour documentary "The History of Slavery" on TV and it was simply unbelievable to realize that Christian states, Christian kings and Christian people made the crime of enslaving and forcing people to work on plantations an organized and legal business going on for several years.

A truly hideous example of how enslaved people were treated came from the US where a slave woman was sentenced to death for killing her "owner" raping her on a regular basis for consecutive three years. The court admitted "her" owner behaved in a very cruel way, but as a slave she had no right whatsoever to defend herself. Thus she had to receive capital punishment for her crime.

It seems that people tend to instantly forget about "some skinny blonde guy with blue eyes, whose mother was a virgin" once greed and abuse is involved.

but Torq is very critical of PiS

He may nevertheless believe what PiS has to say on the strength of Polish military.

Do you like to listen to PiS propaganda?

Love / Polish girls and contraceptives [68]

preventing contraception..

Forcing people to have kids when they actually don't want them is not a very wise solution to the problem either in Poland or anywhere else. In the PRL days elder ladies working as selling assistants in kiosks were making tiny holes in condoms with the help of a needle in order to fight contraception. Would you kindly explain what methods does the present government apply to prevent contraception?

our army strengthened

You like to listen to PiS propaganda, don't you? You'd better read some of the pre-war newspapers of 1939 where the journalists inspired by the then Polish governmemt were repeating ad nauseam "Nie oddamy ani guzika" or trumphantly announcing that in case of war the arrival of the Polish army in Berlin would just be a matter of days rather than weeks.

History / BARBAROUS / BARBARIC / BARBARIAN tribes in Poland [62]

Sorry, but you should indeed specify what 'barbarian' means to you. There is a defined 'border' between the barbarian and the Christian time in Polish history and that border is the year 966.

One of the contemporary writers who writes historical fiction is Elżbieta Cherezińska whose novels, based on historical facts, go back to the times of Mieszko I (966-992) and his son Boleslaus I (Chrobry or Brave; 992-1025). You will find a bit of romance in those books, too. Even if those mentioned first rulers of Poland were Christian, I think there was a lot of barbarian 'amosphere' about and around them in Poland at that time,

News / POKO and LGBT lobby is trying to sexualize children in Poland. Now they aim for adoption [120]

don't tell us that it is not possible to change a child's sexual orientation.

It is not and you have just proved it yourself by quoting the above example. The little boy was happy to return to his natural orientation as soon as he was given a chance despite the efforts of his mother to turn him into a "little femmy girl". If he wasn't given this chance by the Reb, he would have jumped on another on a different occasion later on in his life or he would simply start his sex life as a male, but his real orientation would have never be changed effectively

Sexual orientation is too seriuios a thing to be left by Nature to parents, politicians, priests or any such kind for "changing" or manipulating it. How it is governed by the genes is not yet known, but notice the fact that gay people have always been produced by the so-called normal people, so this trait is not hereditary. The current research seems to suggest that there are two scales in each of us:on which this attraction is defined: opposite sex and same-sex. Notice here hat there are people who are attracted to both sexes as well, either equally or not so much. Evidently, in the majority of people one such scale is being supressed in the development of a human, but most probably in the foetal or very early infant life rather than later on. How all this works is still a mystery yet, but one thing is certain: you cannot turn your sexual orientation by will or by efforts of other people.

Some traits, like skin colour are governed by as little as five genes, for example. Other traits such as behaviour or height are governed by a lot more genes and there is a system of different interactions between the genes involved. So let's keep politicians and priests from the problems of human sexual orientation.as far off as possible.

News / Why is Poland so hostile against Germany? Do they realize how their reparations rubbish damages relations? [510]

Nationalists on the other hand are concerned with external signs of power and insatiable desire to wave their weapons.

they are willing to commit even the worst atrocities in the name of their country

On this forum, clowns like Dirk diggler, Rich Mazur, NoToForeigners (also known as Snotty), Ironside and Spike33 satisfy your definition of a nationalist, I think.

Notice also that nationalists must have in internal enemy first whom they fde-humanize and then want to annihilate complately. In Hitler's Germany those were the Jews, gypsies, homosexuals and mentally-ill.. Today their enemy are mostly the so-called libtards, the so-called 'turdwurlders' and LGBT In general, the liberal democracies which assure constitutional feedom for every minority are their main target whom they would like to wipe out of this earth as quickly as possible.

You want an example of such ideoliogy? It is right here, in the fourth post above:

News / Presidential elections 2020 - your opinions about campaign, candidates [2222]

ou have a point here. If they overdo it [uncontrollable public verbal aggression], it will work against them

But holding up a banner saying that Duda is a fool lies within the standard democratic actions.

65 year old man has been charged with "insulting the President" after he held up a banner that called Duda a fool.

Duda showed up as a candidate and not as Mister President at that meeting.

I'll also say that at this stage I'm in favor of double K....

He begins to stand out in this election and won't be surprised if he ... wins in the second round.

History / Saint Virgin Mary Queen of Poland crushes the Red Army [66]

A woman, for example, cannot suddenly say that she feels 100% pregnant,

You mistake material things for immaterial ones. A woman may be pregant even if she doesn't feel pregnant. Polishness is an immaterial phenomenon and entirely depends on your thinking. One day you may feel 100% Polish, but the following day you may feel 100% American. Go and ask Rich Mazur - he is the best example of how radically people may transform themselves in this respect.

You must have gone mad completely, Torq. On the spiritual level, someone is 100% Polish if he feels 100% Polish. There is no misticism in that.

when analysing the battle of Vienna, tend to overlook the role of Saint Virgin Mary

The problem with the role of Saint Virgin Mary is that in many other battles where Poland lost, the prayers to Virgin Mary wouldn't have been listened to at all. And because such battles were lost, those prayers would have been forgotten about for ever, so you cannot write about the role of Mary in them now.

You should understand one thing, Torq. Saint Virgin Mary has never occupied herself with hostile encounters between the fighting armies and will never ever do this in the future.

Polish nationalism has a future

And what bright future does Polish nationalism have? Do you pray to Saint Virgin Mary for the victory of the Nationalist Party in the next parliamentary election in Poland? I don't really think SHE would be engaging herself in such projects ...

Yes, you are. You speak as if you were sitting right inside of my mind and knew this dychotomy in me. The old good England of my youth! Will it ever return to me once again? :-)

they're catholic if you ask but don't necessarily follow any aspect of the faith.

These two latter groups represent the most common attitude in Poland these days. Thinking otherwise, Torq seems to live under some glass cover separating his illusions from the outside world.

Ziemowit left Poland in 1980s,

Oh dear, I might have done so, indeed. If I had done it, I would have been quite a different man today. Why aren't we given a chance to live two lives simultaneously, for example? I am sure I'm still with my one leg in the so-called 'rotten' West. That's why I am on this forum all the time, I guess.

Poles, unlike Americans ime, almost never talk about or think much about religion..

This is true. Most ordinary catholic Poles think of their religion in terms of the rituals to perform (or in terms of begging for diviine help in the times of trouble :-). But of course, there are exceptions to this. One of the exceptions I can think of is Torq, another exception are the people belonging to the so-called "grupy oazowe". I have recently met such people on several, non-religious occasions and it is obvious to me they are very much inspired by religion in their every day life. It was a kind of shock for me as a non-religious person and yes, I would definitely say they were not the kind of typical catholic Poles. Far from that.

News / Why is Poland so hostile against Germany? Do they realize how their reparations rubbish damages relations? [510]

pressing people into service was the standard back then

But not very much of a standard to abduct them in foreign countries on a regular basis, or so I am told. Recently I have come across the story of him (yes, it was Frederic's father) kidnapping a French (or Austrian) diplomat who had this misfortune of being very tall and whose relatives had to put much effort later on into persuading the Prussians to release him from their army...

So Prussia was a parasite that grew by feeding on Polish blood

In fact, it wasn't only Prussia which did. All the three partitioning powers were embracing resources of Poland which was the second largest European country before partitions occured. But the thing often escaping attention of people in Poland is that the Prussians promptly began to improve the economic infrastructure in the newly annexed territories of Poland which was rather poor before that (the presently called 'Bydgoski' Canal is a very good example of this). And this wasn't neither the case in either the Russian or the Austrian part.

Anyway, by refering to 'Prussian heritage', I chiefly meant Silesia, Western Pomerania and East Prussia rather than such bizzare and temporary provinces as 'Southern Prussia'.

let's not exaggerate. Remember that before the partitions Prussia meant and was nothing

If you think that Prussia was nothing before 1772-1795, how would you explain their quick and successful campaign leading to the conquest of Silesia, a very rich province of the Habsburg Empire, in the years 1741-42, so 30 years before the time of the first partition of Poland? Austria was a big and a powerful country of Europe whereas Prussia was relatively tiny...

Prussian heritage is goooood!!! :)

Prussian heritage is thought of in a dramatically different way in Germany and in Poland. Have you heard of this extremely upsetting habit of Frederic the Great who used to abduct men of exceptional height coming from different nationalities in order to force them into his army? But true, Poland has now become a certain heir to Prussian heritage having so many buildings and other stuff of Prussian origin on her territory now.

I love both Frankfurt and Berlin

Then the best solution could be to have them both as capitals: Franfurt and Berlin. The Bundestag and Bundeskanzler(in) would just commute between them. We already have this in the case of the European parliament; MPs commute between Brussels and Strasbourg. If we take into account that Luxembourg is kind of involved in this scheme, too, we could have added Bonn as well, thus we would have three capitals: the former capital od the DDR, the former capital of West Germany and the biggest financial centre of the country as an addendum. Everyone would be happy and no one would feel excluded (Bavaria, for this matter, may go separate and declare independence).

It was also a sign of of trust and hope towards the future development of Eastern Europe.

This may be actually true. Since I boarded the Warsaw-Berlin train two years ago arriving in the German capital promptly and without a border control, I am now inclined to think of Berlin as one of Poland's big cities, the only difference being that people there speak in German rather than in Polish.

Have you perhaps read this?

Like changing the capital from Bonn to Berlin.

My opinion is that the new Germany's capital should have been set up neither in Bonn nor in Berlin, but somewhere else. That new capital city could have become a clear and visible symbol of the newly united Germany. Frankfurt am Main, for example, coud have been a good choice for that purpose. Obviously, it is more centrally located within the country than either Berlin or Bonn. Giving up on Berlin as a capital would also symbolically mean breaking up with the Prussian heritage as the city of Berlin had first become the capital of Prussia and then of the Germany united under the auspices of Prussia. Thus, Frankfurt am Main as a new capital would be a nice opening point in the new exciting chapter of the Republic's history.

someone somewhere will call you a Soviet

You should inscribe this sentence into your crest, if you have any. You know, the monarch of the UK has the "Dieu et mon droit" motto, so you might make your proud "someone somewhere will call you a Soviet" motto even more clearly visible to the whole world.

t's a marathon, not a sprint, but I'm sensing that things are much closer than Duda would like them to be

He may be in a big trouble now, indeed. Notice how Broniław Komorowski being the front runner in the previous election ... almost suddenly, just as if of nowhere, had lost the presidential election in 2015 to Andrzej Duda.

PiS seems to be increasingly lost in their presidential campaign. They have just started blaming PO for the ever worsening conditions in health services, completely forgetting that over the last 5 years they've been in a position to change something for the better, but in fact things have worsened even more. Thus, people no longer tend to buy such hilarious attacks on PO. Inflation has become visible to everyone now, so the effect of the 500+ programme has been substantially diminished (the amount is now roughly worth about 350 ZŁ). On the other hand, you have this icreasingly aggresive propaganda on public TV which begins to annoy more and more people and among them even the less ardent PiS supporters

Piotrowicz is a scum but a useful scum

You can use a scums as a tool for achieving the greater goals

Sorry about that, but I couldn't resist. 'Scum' is an uncountable noun, but you use it as a countable one all the time. Plus, when you incorrectly used it in plural, you preceded it with the 'a' article.

Or maybe I miss something on English grammar?

I am afraid you are using Polish words whose meanings you don`t really understand.

This is no wonder. He has been outside Poland for so many years ...

Genealogy / Hypothetical cousin from America - genealogy and Poles [20]

amateur genealogists have hidden agendas. They won't admit it, but they are looking for "royal ancestors". And there is the eternal search for "family crests".

There used to be so some time ago. Now it has become totally different.

Back in the 1970s, I think people were still genuinely proud if their ancestors were coming of gentry people, but these days such a feeling has vanished almost completely. This is because people have realised the nation today is a true mixture of different social classes. There have been a lot of articles in the press on it recently and one cover headline in the "Polityka" weekly of August 2018 summed it up very nicely by asking: "Ile chłopa, ile Pana w Polaku?" (How much of a peasant and how much of a gentleman in a Pole?].

All hereditary titles in Poland had been swept away by the Constitution of 1921. Then the nobilty had been deprived of their land and possesions by the communist regime which came to Poland in 1945. The final result is that Polish nobility has pratically vanished from the earth. In the 1990s there had been a little revival of this subject when it became popular on TV for a short span of time, so we could see impoverished aristocrats coming out of the closet and showing themselves as creatures living like ordinary people in blocks of flats in Warsaw or elewhere and telling us about their harsh life in the times of the People's Republic: "my father asked my mother regularly why I couldn't speak French yet". Absolutely hilarious, so to speak!

The "search for crests" has evolved these days into the "search for roots" as people in Poland are genuinely interested in their family's past irrespectively of who they were and what they did for a living. Times have changed.
