sorry, but you're wrong :) Bols is produced in Oborniki Wlkp.
so maybe the license is Dutch (although I wouldn't agree either) but is produced for sure in PL.

Genealogy / Jambrich/Yambrick surname? [34]

Does that even SOUND Polish?

No.

A name doesn't have to be Polish to make you Polish. Where in Poland do the family come from ?

Go to JewishGen and do a soundex search on the name.

Genealogy / Polish name? Hunzah Swantek (Swiatek?) [9]

I've looked through all the naturalization records on ancestry, but can't find his.

I'm not sure that I understand this.

Naturalization Records are government records. But of course, not everyone was naturalized.

Anyway, to find a name in Poland the best place to go is: JewishGen They offer a soundex search, which should help.

An old map might help you locate the mill [młyn] There are many maps on the web.

The names are confusing. I'm afraid that I can't help with them.

I've been researching my gg grandfather, who came from Poland to the US sometime around 1886-1887.

Check his Naturalization Records.

Travel / Why does everyone seem to hate LOT Polish Airlines? [380]

Why does everyone seem to hate LOT Polish Airlines???

Maybe this stems from their reputation in the past. All I know is that I'll never use them because they don't service the routes I would take.

Food / What exactly is Polish Bread? [77]

we didn't have sliced bread,

Given a choice I wouldn't either.

Traditional people go for a traditional product. Also, a fresh baked large loaf is larger than a sliced loaf.

Bread from a small baker is usually uncut. It's supermarkets that sell the majority of sliced bread and therefore the modern loaf.

Food / What exactly is Polish Bread? [77]

the Polish people I've met say it's not REAL Polish bread like the stuff

I think I should say that bread has changed since we joined the EU. The bread we had in the past was bloody awful in my opinion. But I was used to Mother's Pride or similar.

Old fashioned bread always had a strange [acid] taste. That was in a time before sliced bread and the EU.
No joke. We have only had sliced bread here for about 15 years.

Genealogy / Want to find a person [762]

The first part of the phone number tells you a particular part of town.

If you have the number and a map with codes. Then you'll know the district.

That's one step closer.

You won't get the address from the phone book unless it's a business address.

This only applies to land lines of course.

W,

I think it is made in Poland. It is just that the company is Dutch. It has a link with Soplica Wodka.

Happy drinking.

UK, Ireland / Warning to British people visiting Poland!! Don't get drunk and smash the place up! [447]

I can see English people started buying land in Poland and many think about buiding house or jus hiliday house.

You think someone buying a holiday home is going to help your English. Get a life.
Don't you think that if they live here they should be speaking Polish.
And if you are clever, you will be the one teaching it. That's how you make money.

i really dont believe its anywhere near the majority of british visitors... its just the ones who make the most noise that stand out and are noticed...

When the Brits were dancing in the town fountain the papers had an issue with it. When I spoke to some people who were there,......... in all honesty they couldn't give a sh*t.

When people are laughing, joking, having fun and not causing damage. Who cares, not me.
