News / Abortion still under control in Poland [2986]

I saw the Magdalen laundries film, and found it very sad. While I respect the right of everyone to follow their religion, I do not agree with one person imposing their beliefs on another. So if a woman wants to have an abortion, that is her right, and nobody should prevent her. Likewise, if she does not want to do so, nobody should force her. Her body, her rights.

UK, Ireland / Why Polish girls working in UK as escort more than other Eastern European girls [89]

While I don't necessarily agree with the OP, i must admit that i found your speech to be quite theatrical.

There's a world of difference between girls having sex with men for enjoyment and prostitution. I'm not in favour of old-fashioned moral standards that expect women to stay pure until they marry (especially if the same doesn't apply to men), but I do think there's something abusive about men using prostitutes.

OK, technically women choose to go into that line of business, in most cases (some are trafficked, do it to pay down family debts or are bullied into it), but even when it's their choice, it's mostly because they feel they have to, not because they enjoy it.

So to clarify, I'm not blaming women who become escorts, but the men who use them. Sleazy, disrespectful and uncaring.

Punting Polish girls feels in most cases like buying a Volkswagen or Honda. Good VFM but not a Ferrari or Lamborghini.

Sorry but I think you are disgusting. This is a terrible way to talk about women, especially ones from a country with a Catholic heritage who almost certainly feel bad about having to sell themselves in this way.

Rather than asking why Polish women represent a high proportion of Central/East European escorts (which someone has answered - it's because more Poles have moved to the UK than other EU accession nationalities), I think you should think about what nationalities and types of men buy sex, and what that says about them.

Maybe if you respected and liked women, rather than treating them like commodities, you'd find one who wanted to have sex with you because she loves you, not because she needs your money. And that woman might also stick around to make your life as a whole enjoyable, not just the odd few minutes of physical release.

Love / Polish women care about traditional values [34]

combine all the advantages of feminism with all the perks of being a stay-at-home-mum, and ditched most of the responsibilities

I guess this must be true of some women, but a lot of Polish women I've met are strongly career-oriented. Whether they have high-powered jobs or ones on the minimum wage, they see it as important that they have a life outside the home, and their own money. I'd say they are more feminist than say British women, who are happier not to work if their husbands/boyfriends make enough money. Or is it that we Brits are lazier than Polish people generally?

Also, I've read that the birth rate in Poland is falling dramatically because women are having fewer children, at a greater age, or none at all.

Love / Am I The Only One Who Doesn't Find Polish Women Attractive? [93]

@ Sven, each to his own I guess, but I couldn't spend five hours in Warsaw without having my head turned by beautiful women. Five months? You'd see more pretty girls than in a lifetime in some of the places you've mentioned. Plus, Polish women aren't just easy on the eye, they're also smart, kind, funny, and great company. How sad for you that you haven't set aside your prejudices and fallen in love with one...

Imo Polish women on average are not attractive. They have asymmetrical faces with oversized noses and small chins.

Asymmetrical faces? Oversized noses and small chins? Pale, spotty skin? How many Polish women have you actually met?

BTW the women you saw in the lift in Warsaw could have been from any country; probably a multi-national with employees from all over Europe and maybe further afield.

Love / Am I The Only One Who Doesn't Find Polish Women Attractive? [93]

I've met a lot of Polish women who are educated and ambitious and have good jobs. And even if they're doing normal jobs, I think they're more educated and interested in politics and world affairs, culture and history than most British women in similar positions. Also feminism is not a dirty word to Polish women whereas it seems to be for many British ones.

I'd prefer British chick over them.

Are you seriously saying you prefer British women over Polish ones?

OK, there's the occasional British woman who's amazingly beautiful, kind, clever, cultured etc, and the occasional Polish woman who's the opposite. But on average, I'd say Polish women trump British ones. As someone else here wrote recently about Poland, it's where the woman in your local bakery looks like a supermodel from the West...

Love / Woman 28 single, too late for a relationship with a Polish man? [67]

I agree, and very unfair as there isn't the same pressure on men who are single.

IMO there should be a website where Polish women in their 30s can meet British men who don't have the same stereotype in their minds, but who appreciate the many desirable qualities of Polish women :-)

Love / Woman 28 single, too late for a relationship with a Polish man? [67]

the majority of them think about a single woman as a "bad apple" or there is something very wrong with her...

I get the impression it's the other way round, that for some reason in Poland there's a lot of pressure on women from their late 20s to be in settled relationships. So it could be hard for a single man in his late 20s or early 30s to find a woman who is still single. If that's true, the man you've met will be especially grateful for your love :-)

Gene pool is very important folks.

So now you think Polish women are not only unattractive but also uneducated, and a poor genetic match for you?

There is another possible explanation for why you and Polish women don't 'click'. Human beings pick up on body language and pheromones produced when another person is attracted to them. Men in particular aren't that good at consciously spotting these things, including when people flirt with us, but we respond to them subconsciously.

It may be that the 'problem' is that Polish women just aren't that into you, possibly because they find your approach somewhat arrogant, talking about your money and education and the quality of your genes. There are better ways to win a woman's love...

And how about Polish men? Are you finding them surprisingly attractive? If so, you're probably gay. It's the only reason I can think of why you might not find Polish women attractive :-).

Joking apart, of course beauty is subjective, and I guess there are some men who don't see it in some Polish women. But I think a lot of men consider Polish women to be among the most attractive in the world, so it's strange you don't consider them so.

Travel / Collection of dress codes in Poland - what to wear? [96]

I hadn't thought of that, maybe the sports uniforms are provided by managers or sponsors who know they'll get more fans if they look nicer.

I know what you mean about Polish women being less obsessed about their appearances. In particular, I think they are less attracted to wearing well-known brands. Some British people, both men and women, like to wear clothing with the brand names written all over them, which is something I haven't seen in Poland and have seen much less on Polish people living in the UK.

Thanks Magdalena. I wondered whether the obvious preference of the Polish female volleyballers and boxers for not wearing trousers meant that Polish women were generally inclined to be more feminine, whereas in everyday life it seems to me that while they are undoubtedly beautiful, they prefer practicality and comfort in their clothing choices. It seems a strange way round to me...

Love / Turkish girl & Polish guy marriage. Will his parents ever accept me as a non Christian female? [42]

Your boyfriend will be doing nothing against his religion by marrying you. If you each keep your own religion and respect the other's then the only areas for possible tension will come when there are shared decisions to make where you could both want to do it according to your faith. For instance: Muslim or Catholic wedding ceremony? Baptise your children? Or, if they're boys, circumcise them?

I know both Polish and Turkish people, though I'm not of either nationality, so maybe I can help. I think the important thing is that while many Europeans have an unfortunate image of Muslims, based on the few extremists that give the faith a bad name, Turkey is of course a secular state and most Turks interpret their faith in a very liberal way. For instance, I assume you don't wear a veil, and that you drink occasionally :-).

It may be that the key to getting on with your in-laws is to persuade them that you are a moderate Muslim, and not someone who will put pressure on their son to convert or to live a life that contradicts how he has been brought up. Also to anticipate their questions about how you would jointly bring up any children you may one day have.

Life / Polish people are the most ignorant people in the world! [331]

Given the relatively good education system, Poles' interest in philosophical and political debate and their broader knowledge of geography etc, I think it is wrong to call them ignorant. I'm sure there must be some who are individually that way, but on average I'd say they're more knowledgeable than us Brits, and therefore about 1000% more savvy than a typical American :-)

Love / What do you like most about Polish girls? :) [120]

it looks like the English gentlemen have died out :(

Died out? No, we're alive and well :-)

Oh yes, and another one: you can never get them to wear a dress or a skirt, and ideally would work in a job that requires uniforms of some sort, and in particular trousers.

This bit is possibly true. Does anyone know why Polish women won't bare their legs?

But your other criticisms are I think not at all fair.

I agree with all your points, except the one about cooking and cleaning. It's the 21st century, that's not what women are for!

Also, Polish women (and men) tend to be honest and conscientious, to enjoy culture (they don't just want to sit in front of the TV) and to be interested in what's happening in the world.

Genealogy / Do I look Polish? (my picture) [375]

Well, you look pretty enough to be Polish, that's for certain :-)

I guess Polish people are a mix of Caucasian, Teutonic and Slavic, with some Jewish genes mixed in too. So difficult to identify a specific characteristic that marks someone out as being of Polish origins by their appearance.

A lot of people emigrated from Central Europe to the US from the late 19th to mid 20th centuries. I think if you were able to find out more about your family history it might help answer your question. One option might be to go to Ellis Island and enquire there, as that's where most were processed and admitted.

Englishman:First time I've ever wanted to go down on a member of parliament...
I think you could save such comments for your male friends when at the pub.

I'm sorry if I caused offence. I was feeling rather lonely and starved of female company when I wrote that comment. It's not a good excuse, I know.

The bravest woman will be the one who doesn't apply make-up, hair color and consistently wears pants suits. :)

I agree, though I think pressure to wear make-up and hair colour should be treated differently than any stigma attached to pants/trouser suits. The first two entail putting chemicals on the body to make a person look different to how they are naturally. IMO it's wrong that there should be pressure on women to do this.

The last, clothing, is on some level a signifier of social values. I think it's one of the few negative aspects of feminism that some parts of the movement have denigrated traditionally female clothing, and as a result some women in politics or business feel under pressure to wear trousers/pants, as if wearing skirts or dresses would present them as somehow 'not serious enough'. In fact there have been surveys in the UK and US where it has been shown that both women and men take women more seriously when they wear skirts/dresses. So if you're right and there's pressure on female politicans to dress that way, I think that's not necessarily a bad thing. Much better that than the other way round (pressure to wear pants).

@ Jon, I'm guessing because he was in London. The video was filmed just outside the Palace of Westminster. She was probably shocked by the uneducated nature of some of the school groups that traipse around Parliament...

@ Kaz, I don't know about Poland but here in the UK the number of people who can be bothered to vote has been declining for years. Everything that can help get people interested in politics has to help. That could include getting in some more attractive candidates, such as Agnieszka P.

UK, Ireland / Agnieszka Pomaska, beautiful Polish politician [43]

I've just seen a newspaper article reporting criticisms of the British education system by a Polish MP, Agnieszka Pomaska.

Polish MP slams poor UK schools: Politician says immigrants are taking jobs because they are better educated and work harder than Britons

Poles have ended up competing for highly paid professional jobs in the UK because they are better educated and work harder than their British counterparts, a Polish MP has suggested.
Agnieszka Pomaska, a senior MP with her country's ruling party, said Polish immigrants to Britain were no longer seeking low-paid work in the agricultural sector as they did a decade ago.
Instead, she said, her countrymen would inevitably seek out middle-class professions.
Speaking at a conference in London yesterday, Miss Pomaska criticised British politicians who suggest immigration from the EU has prevented British youths from finding jobs.

dailymail/news/article-2540946/Polish-MP-slams-poor-UK-schools-Politician-says-immigrants-taking-jobs-better-educated-work-harder-Britons.html

Setting aside the rights and wrongs of her comments, I just wanted to say I'm amazed to see such a pretty woman as a member of parliament. I know that Polish women are on average much better looking than most nationalities, but generally politicians of either aren't lookers. But Agnieszka is simply stunning! First time I've ever wanted to go down on a member of parliament... (have you seen our British politicians?)

Does anyone know any more about her? What party does she represent, what are her views and does she specialise in any particular areas of policy? And what made her want to become an MP.
