Travel / Pot in Poland for tourists [285]

Exactly dol, why would you go on vacation to end up on probation ?
You could possibly be banned from entering Poland forever if you were convicted on a drug charge.
Stupid is as stupid does.
Traveling in a foreign country I would want all my wits in working order to the maximum.

us will grass you up to the law

Reminds me back in Jamaica years ago before they loosened their laws on ganja.
I watched it happen over and over.
Some guy on the street would sell some over eager tourist a bag of grass.
He would walk away and two minutes later a corrupt police officer would bust them.
They either gave the police officer a $100 or he threatened them that he would take them to jail.
What would you do in that case ? (a no brainer)
The tourist gladly paid the $100 scared out of their wits.
Then you would watch the police officer giving back (to his nephew most likely) the same bag of ganja and the scam started all over with the next unsuspecting tourists. lol

I was just informed by e-mail that high quality marijuana on the streets in Warsaw sells for around 40$ zloty per gram.
The false propaganda of the side effects of marihuana by governments was a huge mistake in the past decades.
People were lied to with scare tactics that simply were not true.
That has all changed today with actual scientific evidence with actual truths of the many side effects from chronic marihuana use.
No matter how it gets into your system, it affects almost every organ in your body, and your nervous system and immune system, too.
This is why it is so destructive in the development of still developing bodies of youth.
It's number one side effect is paranoia which cause anti social behavior in youth which stops growth in social interaction.
There are so many life long negative side effects that we are not educated to that many think it is a harmless recreational drug.
All drugs have side effects and most are bad.
My personal opinion is that Marihuana should be only legal for senior citizens that are incarcerated in care facilities.
It would mellow them out, help them sleep, increase their appetite and the euphoria would make them more talkative.

So your recreational drug of choice is alcohol ?
I have never know anyone murder because they where under the influence of weed
I have know many that have murdered because they were under the influence of alcohol however.
Maybe we should prosecute those who use alcohol recreationally if your rational is going to be used for weed smokers ?
Drunks are much more dangerous then Stoners.

huge amounts of capital, and experienced qualified staff, including an environmental engineer and an experienced agricultural biologist to design the setup,

The kids next door got their information off one of many sites available on the internet.
Simple step by step instructions.
They used soil from their mulch pile mixed with some vermiculite and perlite to keep the soil fluffy and put it in five gallon plastic buckets with six 3/4" holes drilled in the bottom for drainage.

They bought two 1000 watt high pressure sodium lights ($350 each) and put them in the back shed.
Then got a couple of premo cuttings (clones) from their buddy so they knew they would get all high quality female plants so as not to waste time or room.

It's very easy to grow as it is just a weed.

2) Just to have a supply of pot. Unfortunately, small-scale indoor operations are never economically feasible,

It takes just three months from start to finish to grow weed.
You can easily grow a kilo under one light or 4 kilos per year and with two lights double that to 8 kilos per year.
Anyone know what 8000 grams would fetch on the street in Poland at 5$ per gram ?
I would say that is economically feasible.

3) The suppliers know full well that it is not economically feasible,

Initial cost of lights then the electric bill and good organic fertilizer from Holland.
40,000$ zloty per year for a part time job is not feasible ?
Now for the kicker question: What is the EXACT consequences if you did get caught growing weed in Poland ?
How much is your freedom worth ?

Should Poland maybe consider legalizing use and growing like many other countries have ?
Would Poland's #1 agricultural export to Russia go from apples to weed by ten fold ?
Could the small rural farmers get a piece of the pie too ?
Would this attract foreign tourist to be able to legally indulge in a self inflicted adult drug besides alcohol ?
Would this create a billion dollar tax base for Poland like it has for the State of Colorado in the United States ?
Just saying.............

Not really -we don't get quite enough sun, at least not every year. Hungary is better :)

How about under high pressure sodium lights ?
Is growing weed indoors in Poland being done in any volume ?
What would the consequences be if you got caught growing eight or ten plants (kilo) in your basement or barn ?

Food / Does beer have any "real" expire date? [39]

Put a experation date on it.

They do that so you can tell your wife that you really don't want to drink it but you have to because the date on it is going to expire. :-)

Life / Poland's Prison System Compared to America's [36]

Where did you get off topic at......ah yes, about six posts ago.
Are Polish prisoners allowed to smoke cigarettes while incarcerated ?
American prisoners are not allowed to.

a discreet bribe that certain lawyers specialise in arranging.

I am VERY aware of what you are talking about as it happens here too. $$$$$$
Money can't buy happiness but it sure the hell greases the wheels.

Plus the organised criminals and their gangs have connections that put them almost above the law.

There is no "almost" about it, they ARE in many situations.
There are three types of gangs in the Federal prisons in the U.S.A.
The Whites, the Blacks and the Latino's.
The Latino's are most vicious, dangerous and feared by far.
Many Federal guards refuse to work in prisons with high Latino populations.
Their connections on the inside and outside are unbelievable.
Like they say, "the inmates run the asylum."

been inside then Johnny?

Do I act like I have been rehabilitated ? :-)

Life / Poland's Prison System Compared to America's [36]

The federal prisons like Pol3 said are decked out with workout courts, basketball courts, exercise rooms, hot showers every day, clean towels and bedding because they have laundry rooms where you are allowed to do your own personal laundry in many low risk prisons.

They have cable t.v. and the food is of medium grade.
There are security camera's everywhere for the prisoners safety too.
Many prisons in America for the rich prisoners who have high priced attorney's representing them get put in what are called "Country Clubs" prisons when the attorney is paid a lot of money to get their guilty as hell client off, but can't, so in return the judge sentences the rich guy to a plush prison in hopes of a large campaign contribution for re election from the attorney. $$$$$$

I just wondered if the legal system is as crooked in Poland as it is in the U.S.

Life / Poland's Prison System Compared to America's [36]

Decades of prison visiting as a volunteer here, plus having worked in one elsewhere.

Ah ha, I knew that I detected someone who knew the gut wrenching of lost souls.
Most of the prisoners I met were very uneducated or so far down on their luck they felt hopeless and didn't care anymore.
These people are targets for law enforcement and the legal system for two reasons in America.
The first is they know these people don't have the money to defend themselves with a good lawyer making for an easy conviction. $$$$$
In essence they are given a "public pretender" by the courts to represent them.
These lawyers get paid minimum (by the courts) so they don't put any effort into representing the victims.
The second reason is the prison system does not like violent criminals, they like non violent people like drug users/growers, back child support, etc.

This makes THEIR JOBS much easier and safer.
This makes for easy revenue and job security for the system. $$$$$
It's all about money and like jon said, NOTHING to do with rehabilitation as most come out of the joint much more hardcore then when they went in creating a repeat offender.

Being a lot of the prisons in America are 'privately owned and run' it has become BIG BUSINESS $$$$$ and that is why there are so many youth in prisons in America........they can't afford to defend themselves.

Is Poland like this also ?
Does Poland have privately owned prisons ?

I am serious about this Joker.
I could feel jon's emotions when he said, "all on a miscarriage of justice or momentary lapse of judgment."
If you have ever been incarcerated you would know exactly what he means.
I just am in disbelief that Poland would run such institutions in this day and age that he has described.

What Pol3 said about America's prisons is true.

The luxuries in the prison system

You forgot about the major recreational drug abuse in American prisons though Pol.
And let's not forget the American Civil Liberties Union that represent these guys for free if they have a legitimate gripe.

jon is it true what you said in this post ?
Are Polish prisons really as bad as Mexican prisons ?

I await the day you end up locked away in a dingy cell eating stale bread and rotten onions with Radio Zet blaring day and night and no proper mattress or pillow locked up with lowlife, once weekly showers and a twice monthly visit, all on a miscarriage of justice or momentary lapse of judgement.

How much of this is just your creative imagination jon ? or is it first hand experience ?

News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

you're just a brainwashed tool so they can use you for free.@jon357

Useful Idiot comes to mind now that you have brought it up Wulkan.
It is that Socialist Left Wing Marxist thinking that you are dealing with here.
They are driven by pathological altruism, believing that they know how to run our lives better than us and believing the Western guilt stories.
Perhaps a better term is Dangerous Idiot, Karl Marx was one of them.

Once those people are allowed to have their marches through the city

What happened to "Freedom o Speech" that you boasted about when the Homo's were allowed to march down those same streets with their rainbow flag and pink feathers ?

Just as disgusting to many.

News / Poland's post-election political scene [4080]

God help Poland is right if Evangelism starts grabbing hold there.
It happened in the area I live in here in the U.S. and it was nobodies fault except the Catholic churches.
Lenka and I both were raised Catholic until we were old enough to think for ourselves.
She chose to become an atheist and I chose a basic Bible believing church.
When I started attending that church there were 60 members and today there is well over 600 members, most who were formally Catholics.
Faith is not about traditions, it is about your personal relationship with Jesus is what I now believe.
The youth of Poland are breaking the strangle hold the church has on them like Lenka did which in another generation is going to play a huge role on Poland's political scene.

What would happen if they had mass and nobody came and quit pumping money into mixing church with State ?

if you want to kill young people's enthusiasm for something make it part of the established order and make them take classes in it.

You just nailed it and that is EXACTLY what is happening in Poland today.
Sorry father, I have lost interest in your church as it personally offers me nothing while trying to control my life in everything.
No offense.

Life / Polish water safe to drink? [50]

Those metal pipes you speak of are sometimes "lead" pipes.
Boiling your water does not remove toxic metals or chemicals from the water.
Even bottled water is unsafe sometimes.
When the plastic gets exposed to the hot sun it causes a chemical reaction that makes the water toxic from the plastic.
May I brag, we are blessed here on my property, to have a bubbling artesian well that has a flow of 30 gallons a minute of ice cold water that tests zero interference that flows 24/7/365.

Does Poland have test kits that you can take random samples of water yourself and send them into the health department to have them tested for a small fee like they do here in the U.S.A. ?

Life / Polish water safe to drink? [50]

roca posted that five years ago and the water very well have could have contained interference.
Look what Wroclaw Boy said about it.

I used to drink the tap water for years, then i stopped and my toilet requirements became less frequent.

Since then Poland has been replacing the old water pipes and things have improved to the point that the Polish people are starting to drink the water from the taps in their homes again.

That was the POINT here.
roca also made another very good point.

you cannot remove the hazardous chemicals just by ''boiling'' the water

Your source Notty will most likely get deleted since it is not in English.

After decades of poor quality water running in home taps the situation has improved to the extent that many Poles started drinking it again.
(Bottled water is not as safe as it is cracked up to be either, if you tested it, especially if those plastic bottles have been exposed to sun light.)

Nice to see that kind of new infrastructure improving Poland.

Travel / Flying from USA to Poland in June - Will Visa now be required??? [38]

but few, if any, Americans.

Americans are beyond spoiled and are very demanding.
Caribbean and Central America caters to their every whim.
Europe on the other hand does not really like Americans and Americans can feel that cold shoulder.
If you where to survay the age group below 50 years old in America and ask them if they would rather go to Costa Rica or the Virgin Islands or would they rather go to Poland or the U.K. it is no mystery where they would choose.

Europe is very unsafe right now for Americans on top of it all.
The ONLY reason Americans would visit Poland is to visit relatives or go see the homeland which is a very small percentage of Americans.
Most of my friends that have gone to Poland say after two weeks they are ready to come home because it is a very boring place where people do not smile.

If Poland were to make it anymore difficult to visit as it is already off the beaten path by demanding a visa, I am afraid it would be more then a shot in the foot to Poland.

Nobody will pay this astronomical fee for a visa.

No, I meant if someone is going to spend $3k to $5k for a vacation to Poland for two weeks to visit a couple of tourist attractions may be swayed to go some place else that does not require the hassle of a visa.

Tourism brings in a lot of cash to a lot of people so why would they want to discourage it in Poland.

Requiring a visa for Americans in retaliation because they are required to have one to come to America and then try to make the big money illegally with no intentions of returning as a high percentage do.

(Referring to working class Polish)

They cannot grasp that there are almost a million Americans living in Europe now;

Illegally ? Americans going to Poland to stay illegally to make big money with no intentions of returning ?

Few, very few is the correct answer.

Now do you understand what I was saying BEFORE Othery chimed in ?

Travel / Flying from USA to Poland in June - Will Visa now be required??? [38]

Europe has turned into a hot bed of terrorism.

It sure has and is only going to get much worse.
I mentioned months ago that Europe is crumbling but I guess when you live in the middle of it they don't notice it.

They really have nothing to offer

Requiring a visa for Americans that are willing to drop $3-5k to see the Salt Mines & the Death Camp is nuts.
All because in retaliation because they are required to have one to come to America and then try to make the big money illegally with no intentions of returning as a high percentage do.

What American would go to Poland with no intention of returning ? Few, very few is the correct answer.

not to mention all the unfriendly attitudes.

They have a lot of pent up jealousy towards the U.S.A..

I wonder how much tourism Europe will lose?

I had full intentions on visiting Poland and the EU this year but the hate and drama that I see certainly is not inviting.
I think after a week or two I would be TOTALLY bored plus like Adrian said, the food sucks.
Poland would shoot themselves in the foot if they required a visa for Americans.
Costa Rica is looking better and better every day to me personally.
Much shorter flight too.
Plus the weather is nice year around as are the people.
Not to mention the jerked chicken, curried shrimp & coconut rum.
Gee, I think I just convinced myself that the EU ain't worth the hassle even without a visa requirement.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

80% of Poles don't want easier access to firearms.

This is why education is so important.
The fear that has been instilled back in the Communist days still lingers in Poland.

Not at the cost of higher gun crime.

Actually violent crime is much higher when guns have been banned in a country.
Take the U.K. for example where violent crime rose by 48% when guns were confiscated.
I am only suggesting that responsible people have the option to be trained in the safety and shooting of a gun.
This will slowly educate the people of Poland that guns are not evil as many of you here suggest.
Actually they are quite fun to shoot and enjoy not to mention the extra home security that they give a person.

We don't need guns and we don't want guns.

Thank you for your personal opinion.

End of story and nothing to discuss anymore.

Not necessarily as others here may beg to differ with that personal opinion of yours also.
This is why training the youth of Poland in gun safety and shooting classes would alleviate such ignorant biasness with education.
A sport that many would enjoy.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

your real motives. Irrational fear of guns.

That seems to be her phobia.
Perhaps if Poland were to have mandatory gun safety & shooting classes for all ten year olds that it may relax the bias fears that have been instilled that guns are a bad thing.

Those classes most certainly would create more enthusiasm for responsible gun ownership.
In doing so there would be no doubt Poland would support such legislation from the new enthusiasm these classes would create.
