Life / Don't Forget: Tomorrow, March 8 is Women's Day in Poland! [140]

I don't think Zimny hates women,

Neither do I.
I think that he is right in those posts of his I have read. What is so offensive in his way that so many posters jump on him? Certain aloofness he display towards others posters?

His views? He has a right to his views and opinions.

That's what I thought too ;)

Well Polson I have no beef with you so do not mean to offend you. However I must say that you seems to be a someone who would rather react than think for himself.

Source ? I

exactly G, our Polson reads too many women magazines sorry even there they wouldn't spread such crappy lies, that must be feminist websites. I just wonder whether Polson is there in order to get laid or he is she in the real life.

History / Terrible past for the Jews in Poland? [930]

is in many ways more charitable that what you state is the real reason

You say as if there was need for excuses Harry. If somebody would cut your means of making a living (especially in 18th century) it would be practically the same as if he cut your throat.

Most the issues in Poland with Jews came from the fact they were blocking means of advance for rising merchant class in Poland.

So to say that Jews had priviliges or advantages over other Poles is an anachronism.

To put it succinctly, during the medieval times in Poland Jews were yet anther class/segment of society. Wheres in other countries of Europe at the time they were underclass.

Kalisz 1542, 1557
Warsaw, May 1790

All three? Really? Cause the rest have no much to do with Poland.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

Are you drunk? How legislation in Poland is an American problem?

The idea is to keep people safe, isn't it?

By whom? Who is that good daddy who would keep you safe?

Legislation in Poland should be changed as to change licensing rules and make them more transparent and more egalitarian. So far too much depends on individual decisions of officers.

History / Question about interwar Poland [13]

For example, in Bitter Fate by Richard Watts, he insinuates that Poland was never able to achieve prosperity because of the tense international situation, hyperinflation, and inequality between the old landed gentry and the peasants and Poles and Ukrainians and Belorussians in the borderlands.

Well he is wrong at all counts. Poland did achieved much during that short time on almost every field regardless of all conflicts.

do find it amazing how hostile some Ukranians were to the 2nd republic, considering that the alternative was the Holodomor!

Morons.

History / What do Poles owe to Germans? [451]

if it wasn't a legitimate regime, why does the modern day Polish state recognise it?

History / What do Poles owe to Germans? [451]

the legitimacy of the Communist government in legal theory.

No you don't, you are sweet-talking about legitimacy of the Communist emerge. The only acts of the Communist regime which are legal are those which Polish government choose to recognize as legal and binding,

Yes, they used the 1921 Constitution and amended (and then replaced it) with something that suited them, but it was all done in accordance with the law.

I think that your confusing come for the fact that you constructed artificial barrier between law and reality or morality. That could be all well if you were debating some theoretical legal twists but you don't.

You are trying to debate one part of the whole, it doesn't make any sense legal or otherwise.

How do you think Poland survived after '89??

I wonder how you survived, the facts you can type that a wonder.
quote=Polson]Well, they participated in the development of such (nice) cities as Wrocław. And Gdańsk, a place I like, for instance ;)
[/quote]
well, places that had to be rebuild by Poles. Not to mention that they take whole credit for destruction such vibrant city like Warsaw and countless towns and villages.

TheOther:
they share a lot of their history

people from Poland and Germany were intermixed for centuries but sharing a lot of history is a cliché if I ever sow one.

The Polish state had more or less ceased to exist,

Ah! Now it became clear where do you inspiration and confusion come form.

You follow claims of aggressor and occupiers. Well Poles, reality and a their legal theory show you a big middle finger to your claim shared by the Nazis and Communist theoretician . You are proudly continuing their line.

History / Polish military uniforms - collar markings [74]

Hey Dan!
There were two different collar markings. Single one for privates and under-officers and double for officers.

I'm not 100% sure but they were derived from historical Polish uniforms. Polish Legions during WWI had such marking on collar - it was called legion wezyk.

Thanks

OK!
I checked it!
It seems that Polish Legions (WWI volunteers mostly form Russian Poland, who were fighting for Austria-Hungary) used that marking on the collar for all which was traditional used for Generals in the Polish Army.

Called Legion's wavy line was transferred to the Polish Army after 1918.

k

Different position is so called general's cut:

History / Polish military uniforms [57]

Not a single part of that is true.

Single what is not true?
In English historiography there is a sharp divide between those who claim that conquest by the Normans bought revolutionary changes to Anglo-Saxon England and those that claim that their impact was only minimal.

Alas my claim could be and well is debatable. Under no circumstances can be described as no true at all.

Genealogy / Is your line of the Polish family noble? [74]

my mother is linked to the noble potocki family,

So what? considering that at onetime 10% of Poland population were nobles, it would means that nowadays at least 50% or Poles have one or other grandparent from the noble lineage.

Where to go? It depended whether you have the dough to burn or not.

What remain is a lot of French words in the English vocabulary.
