We have as many as 3 sockets in the bathroom in our 20-year-old house in Germany. Also in Poland, in our house from the 1960s, there were sockets in the hanging mirror cabinet in the bathroom . It was completely normal. But when I was still going to England, I was told that not only the electrics in Victorian houses are strange, but also a few other things.

History / Are Poles happy with the current Polish borders? [134]

does that not make Poland "EasternGermany" in their line of thinking

I don't think so because it's actually a common term that everyone uses. But you can ask BB and T what they think about it.

History / Are Poles happy with the current Polish borders? [134]

So a nutcase.

Although after reading the message I have to say that this lady did not say anything wrong. She only said that the AfD has a lot of support in "Mitteldeutschland". Only that "Mitteldeutschland" or Central Germany is a common term for this geographical region that has nothing to do with any territorial claims.

Off-Topic / Pop A Cork - Wine [440]

It's a worthy bottle.

Certainly, but I see you also have interesting books for this wine. If I got it right, that thing about the Vatican and Edith Stein?

UK, Ireland / Should I worry going to Ireland as a Pole? [37]

@Atch
Yes, I use Irish Kerrygold butter to make my son's sandwiches. It is always soft even after taking it out of the fridge. How do you do it? Do you add any oil to it?

Food / Poland-Tea or coffee land? [165]

What I remember was pretty coarsely ground...

It must have been much later, coarsely ground coffee was for coffee machines with a filter. Finely ground coffee in electric coffee grinders would not be suitable for filters because it would clog them.

Food / Poland-Tea or coffee land? [165]

When I was last in Poland

It must have been a long time ago. I also remember finely ground coffee poured with boiling water in a glass, very strong and fragrant for the whole house. But I remember it from my youth.

but I still enjoy my chocolate.

If it's black chocolate then you're fine, it's supposed to prolong life.

Food / Poland-Tea or coffee land? [165]

Sometimes when I go for a kebab in Leipzig, I get a small glass of very strong Turkish tea from a samovar for free, which is practically constantly boiling. This is the only black tea I drink with sugar. There is no such kebab in Poland.

Stay physically and mentally active

I'm trying, unfortunately my two female cousins died shortly after 50, our close friend a Polish priest in Germany shortly after 60. Moreover, in the news so many young people are now dying ... scary to think. Good thing Corona is over. Back to the topic, we celebrated in a small group. The kids will come next week. I'm not going to do anything at work.....Hmm, this is where I actually have a question, would you celebrate 60 at work?

@Novichok
I thought for 60 you had to invite at least 60 guests and drink for three days. To be clear, I had a glass of champagne with my wife.

Things you can't get

In Germany it's annoying that you can't buy regular aspirin or ibuprofen at drugstores or supermarkets. You can only get them at the pharmacy.

Suffering's NEVER the "fate" of free-

Suffering often seems to be a way of life, and this applies not only to Poles, but also to, for example, Jews.

Life / 60th birthday in Poland [38]

My dad is in his early 60s, and seems quite depressed about this fact.

I'm not going to get depressed over this. I also do not want to set my life anew, as I have already written, no new children because late-born children lose their parents when they need them most. I will also no longer drive on highways 200/kmh as I did as a 30-year-old, only 130 on the cruise control as befits a serious person. The most important change is that a man after 60 does not have to prove many things to himself. Yes, it gives a lot of psychological comfort. No, I don't want to be 30 again, but I don't want to be 80 either.

60 is the new 30..

Not really, some of the things I did when I was 30, I certainly won't repeat when I'm 60.

How is the 60th birthday celebrated in Poland. It's the end of youth for sure, but is it the beginning of old age? Are there any special customs?
