gang rape

Extremel rare.

It's all ideology completely divorced from reality.

What are your thoughts on 'biological determinism'?

and this is why parties like AdF are growing in every country but Denmark

Not, fortunately in the UK or Poland.

History / Polish and other Slavic nobility in our time [71]

No. Bow ties are like very expensive watches, certain type of cars and huge kitchen knives displayed in a knife block. They're about what's in the trousers or more accurately what's lacking.

a criminal act punishable by imprisonment.

This has been discussed in the UK however the government decided there wa no need to pass a new law since everyone and anyone would call the fire brigade without thinking twice.

I was told after the fire happened that the Polish staff were possibly worried about getting a bill.

Nine migrants rape a 15 year old girl in Hamburg

Do only migrants do that?

AfD gains news supporters.

I bet you'd join them.

And when they're driven off for a shower, would you stand on the pavement quoting unemployment statistics and nwdpapr article about rape?

Somalis are about the worst performing group of immigrants anywhere.

The Somalis in Cardiff and Swansea are very established and very much part of the wider community.

I don't think there are many here since Poland doesn't have any large port cities. Maybe there are a few round the Trojmiasto.

Life / SOME OBSERVATIONS ABOUT POLAND AND POLISH SOCIETY [297]

It's possible that they thought he was drunk if he was known for drinking.

He did apparently drink and was known to most but not all. Not that it's an excuse to walk by on the way to church. I subsequently got to know a young couple who'd just moved in a few weeks before and had seen him. They were sort of shocked and amused at the same time. They still walked by though.

And when most of the corridor came back from church and ignored him, he was definitely dead. When I saw him at about 2pm he was cold, his face had started to drop and there was stuff coming out of his nose and mouth.

You made it up.

it is true. The Polish friend (from the countryside) who I called in a panic and who contacted the police for me was shocked too.

underclass

None of the neighbours there were 'underclass'. The dead man was a neighbour and a retired lawyer.

And on a council estate where I'm from, that just wouldn't happen.

Some of them, certainly.

Around the same time, I worked in an office in the centre with other people from the.UK. We looked out of the window and saw a fire on the roof of the apartment building opposite. We were all new in the country and didn't speak Polish, so we led the reception/accounts staff to call the fire brigade. They refused, saying that it wasn't their business.

I can imagine people ignoring an adult guy lying somewhere,

When I first came to Warsaw, one of my neighbours, an elderly retired lawyer, had a heart attack on Sunday morning in the corridor of our block, just outside the lift on my floor. Most of the neighbours were churchgoers and walked past the dying man on their way to church.

After mass, they came back. He was dead by then. They walked past the corpse, went into their flats and locked their doors, ignoring me knocking when I found the body. None of them bothered to call the police.

Genealogy / Possibility of Relations? - Surnames [6]

If anyone in PL had a relative (probably from the wartime generation) who went to Leeds in the UK or the area around Leeds with one of the following surnames, there may be some money waiting for them. This is from the UK Treasury list of unclaimed estates, where someone has died without making a last will and testament and no relatives have come forward in the UK to claim the deceased's estate.

I've just included the Leeds surnames (without Polish characters). The full list (for all the UK) can be found in the link which also explains how to make a claim.

- Czyz
- Podola
- Zlobicki
- Majczak

If you mean the Great Schism, that's when the Eastern Orthodox Church was founded by separating from the Catholic Church.

Or even the opposite.

RCC is not a denomination

It's a denomination, albeit a large one. The church is all believers. The whole thing (including RC) seems to be declining now anyway, except for 'megachurches' over in America and Africa. What will come next is anybody's guess however the Fatima Secrets may give a sad clue.

Nothing but hatred and the same old topics constantly rehashed.

The same. It would be nice to keep it going, however threads just get trashed, and I suspect that is very deliberate.

If someone came here for the first time wanting to read about or discuss life in Poland or culture/sport here, they'd just see endless racist posts, seedy russian trolls, internal American politics and stuff about immigration and transgender issues. The same trash they can read anywhere. Plus some particularly foul language from the same couple of posters. Most people would take one look and then go.

The difference is very visible now that Vincent is no longer moderating.

Very. Perhaps he just gave up in frustration.

You can only speak of protestant countries since the 16th century.

Indeed, although the roots of free thought and philosophical and scientific exploration predate that. And of course, most actually development has been since C16th. The period of the RC denomination's dominance since its founding in 1054 and the Great Reformation were not a time of growth.

However, let's not drag the thread off-topic too much

Indeed; the book sounds interesting as apologetics go.

I don't think off-topic is as it once was here. No moderation any more and most threads degenerate into geriatrics calling female posters b1tches.

they like that greasy Southern look, Sandland, where the men are real, and female goats are skittish

Where Jesus came from.

... which was built

Developed in part by the RC denomination, however the most significant steps in its development were driven in Protestant countries, often with disapproval by the RC brigade..

migrant-based organized crime groups?

Crime is crime, regardless of who does it. And police are almost alway reactive.

hard industrial scale sexual exploitation

Don't be silly.

some criminals which probably made Poland a bit safer....

Crime in rural Poland plummeted after 2004.

for some percentage of the criminally minded will see emigration as an opportunity to fleece new pigeons

Not as complicated or as organised as that though. Most crime is committed by undereducated working class young men, and that was the demographic most likely to leave dead-end towns to seek work.

Apparently at least one reputable newspaper

Which one?

And for someone that you're (falsely) trying to suggest has spent decades as a dolite, he's certainly a well connected one...

Mainstream press coverage of this case

That's verging on conspiracymongering. Has it occurred to you that newspapers report what they are allowed to and there are often restrictions, especially in case where children are involved?

it seems like you are trying to justify

Ptak, it seems like you misunderstand the word "justify".

It's not exactly a sesquipedalian lexeme. Analysis is always better than omphaloskepsis.

until recently China was not a player

They certainly are now; and of course their economic system is pure authoritarian capitalism of a kind we should all be worried about.

and the CCCP was more interested in supporting liberation movements

More interested in destabilising development for the benefit of their own interests.

the hypocrisy of those installing governments who's economic policies created the problem

That's basically France in much of the MENA region. They still won't let go, even though the rewards for them are relatively small.

America tries but never gets it right and of course their role is frequently overstated.

I'm not against migration and have no problem with ethnicity or religion of people.

A good thing. One point I've made here that gets ignored is that it really isn't about whether people in the Global North like migration or dislike it. The key thing is that it's increasing hugely and is likely to continue to do so for decades regardless of what commentators say.

Of course it's the poor (of whatever colour) that will as always lose out.

state capitalism, gangster capitalism or vulture capitalism.

There are better forms of economy. In the MENA region, none are native. Much better to let the people there develop what works for them.

the country that created the mess.

Cack-handedly, sadly. And that added to the syf caused by France, Italy, Belgium and Spain in the region. RC countries and colonialism were a bad mix.

For all the (often misplaced) invective against the British Empire, the difference between former British or Dutch colonies and the others are palpable today. Things like roads, schools, hospitals, a native administrator class, a functioning postal service and mains electricity that works all day.

How many jobs did he have in Ireland?

Why would anyone have more than one?

Are you suggesting he was unemployed? He's not some person living in poverty; in fact the few things known about him suggest that he was quite a way up the social scale until his brain tumour destroyed his life.

US policy

I'd look further east, to r*SSia and China.
