Law / Succession/inheritance in Poland [2]

How do I manage all of this?

I'd say that you really do need a lawyer for this, and it should be one you can trust and who has experience in this field.

Perhaps contact the Swedish Embassy in Warsaw who will certainly have a list of reliable lawyers.

News / Pawel Adamowicz, Gdansk mayor, dies after stabbing [354]

Tusk

He's not my favourite politician either however he does have integrity and ability

In speeches and statements I've seen him playing the hard guy. I suspect that's just for the optics and in reality he's more thoughtful and decent.

there are at least two things more important to the USA than Poland

Many many things. There's a lot to worry about in the world right now.

I suspect we'll see them concentrating on South America sooner or later.and for sure they'll be nice to Canada and certain west African countries l.

Law / Lost without my daughter - father rights in Poland [32]

think he wants to grab

I think he certainly wants to grab something. Unfortunately for him, from his point of view, all he'll get are gerontophiles unless he pays hard cash.

His days doing it and pretending not to be "bi-curious" are far in the past.

I wouldn't exclude anything

Nor would I, however in his case, I've never seen a clearer case of suppressed desire externalising itself as obsession. He gets off on writing the words even.

Totally transparent.

Everyone is normal, and you whine like a little pussy.

And yes, you're obsessed with the subject. You probably wish you'd done more of it years ago.

You're the only person who raised the subject in this thread, just as you raise it in pretty well every thread. Take your hands out of your trousers, get some fresh air and focus what's left of your mind on other topics.

Study / Various education and school issues in Poland. Opinions, stories, controversies. [1006]

Really? I thought your point was that is should be done earlier and given as one grade

No. The opposite in some ways; any final grade must be calculated in a way that reflects the different strengths of the learner and the inherent limitations of formal assessment.

Do you have any idea how they will measure that

As far as I know it's being done now for 2024. I'm not sure what the metrics are however they are doubtless carefully thought through. Usually they look at curricula and assessment..

And if you have both grades you can make your average

That's my point.

Since assessment (other than in very practical subjects) is inherently artificial, the range of methods should be as broad as possibly in order to accurately reflect attainment in the subject.

students, it is much more important to teach them to be curious

Yes. This is incorporated in the next iteration of PISA rankings which are expected to have some countries fall dramatically and others to rise in the rankings.

I actually like both grades separately

There's a case for that however since different people respond to assessment in different ways (and after all, both exams and coursework are far from 'real') it's important that the final grade for the subject is an aggregate of the two.

Some students are useless at exams and great at coursework, others are the opposite.

there's no reason to expect that random bits taken from a very different culture will work when applied to Polish realities.

Yes. What works in one place doesn't necessarily work in another. That applies at the micro level too since kids learn at different levels.

There are also sadly different outcomes between the types of community, affluent suburbs v rough estates, urban v rural etc. a national curriculum should never be a one size fits all approach.

The curriculum, the methodology of teaching, the measuring of students' progress and attainment, everything needs to change

Yes again.

The PISA rankings have changed their metrics quite radically for the next lot of stats and include critical thinking as well as a few other big changes.. Many in Poland will be unhappy when the next lot are out since they are expected to fall a few places.

That comment is just so lower middle class suburban.

People do all sorts behind the bedroom door. There's no reason it needs to be with the person who cooks their dinner (who might well have their own cinq à sept going on).

Further details are irrelevant.

You do seem to have a real obsession with homosexuality; you mention it alt least daily.

fdmaily structure lfietsyle nonsense

Family structures change fast in societies.

There's France where you can do all the family stuff, do all the sex outside marriage and nobody really cares; they just enjoy both.

Travel / Poland in photo riddles - part 3 [818]

funny language mistake which some people in Poland make when talking about the holiday???

This one's on the tip of my tongue. I used to know and it's gone from my mind.

Edit, is it t( form of the word król? I forget which way round it is but it's an exception. Krolów or Kroli? Probably Kroli because Krolów sounds right and I've an idea thatit isn't in this case.

News / How will Poland be affected by WW3 which has now started [559]

@johnny reb
Your quote actually comes from a news article rather than the talk he gave.

He talked about the army being brought up to strength to avoid such a thing. He also talked about the value of the TA since he opposes conscription.

Britain's top military brass this week suggested that civilians may be conscripted

He didn't though.

It's all covered in the posts above. If you've not read them yet, they're worth a look since they cover the talk he gave.

Jerzy Giedroyc

A fascinating guy.

noble family, with the title of kniaź

So therefore an actual noble rather just szlachta.

The Prince of Maisons-Laffitte

After all, he was a very big name in the Paris diaspora.

the normalisation of Polish-Russian and Polish-German relationships

An optimistic man.

No., There's no question about doing anything so foolish, and the thought that someone in his position would even toy with such an idea is risible.

He was talking at an armoured vehicles trade show attended largely by other army bods about his vision for expanding the TA and his frustration at regular army recruitment being outsourced to a for-profit organisation.

The news report you read was lifted from a newspaper popular with elderly former army officers who like the lack of gun crime in our society and don't favour a weakening of firearms laws either. If anything, they favour far stronger gaol sentences for possessing such things.

News / How will Poland be affected by WW3 which has now started [559]

Presumably they're printing it now. I read the app.

The exact paragraph is:
" The Army chief, who would not support conscription, said: "Our predecessors of course failed to perceive the implications of the so-called July crisis in 1914, and stumbled into the most ghastly of wars.

"We can't afford to make the same mistake today. Ukraine really matters.."

The key part of the article was:

Sir Patrick suggested Britain should "train and equip" a "citizen Army" to ready the country for a potential land war and urged the Government to be "clear-eyed" about Russia, which he said was spending nearly 40 per cent of public expenditure on defence.

.....

Speaking at the International Armoured Vehicles conference in Twickenham on Wednesday, Sir Patrick said: "Ukraine brutally illustrates that regular armies start wars, citizen armies win them
."

Life / Jerzy Kosinski: Are his works popular in Poland? [48]

Kosinski remind me in some ways of this guy. There are differences of course, but similarities too.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fragments:_Memories_of_a_Wartime_Childhood

It was this guy I was thinking of rather than Kosinski when I mentioned the appalling 'Laura Grabowski'. They both backed up each other's lies since neither was in a position to disprove them, both of them being fakers.

reborn as a completely different entity.

This is more or less a given since the drive among some in Germany towards federalism hasn't been a success and isn't supported by most member states.

The Daily Telegraph. It's behind a paywall however the report didn't say that much.

He did point out that a "citizen army" can help win wars and that we've seen that in Ukraine and he also praised army expansion in some of the countries in eastern and Central Europe.

He stressed that he opposes conscription.

Law / Are non-Polish senior citizens entitled to use free public transportation ? [20]

I will check out the other cities also.

Here's a list of the Warsaw ones with location:
wtp.waw.pl/en/service-points/

Worth mentioning that in Warsaw a normal one journey ticket is 84 cents (U.S.).

EDIT

A quick look here suggests that over 70s get free travel wherever they're from, however 60-70s have to be Polish citizens. This is just Warsaw; other ciotiss may differ (but probably don't much). All you need is official proof of age like a passport

Off-Topic / Will German Farmers change the EU policy? [45]

This is not normal, and unsustainable in the long run.

Part of the reason for brexit; a disproportionate amount of the CAP funding went to less efficient French, German and Italian farmers while they tried to limit production by more efficient farmers elsewhere to benefit their own.

News / How will Poland be affected by WW3 which has now started [559]

Here, read it again.

I did, and the article doesn't say that conscription is to be introduced or even anything like that.

He is against conscription, and for the record hasn't delivered the speech yet.

He is expected to warn that if we took part in a land war, the current level of recruitment may mean that we could have to take steps to address the conservatives' cuts in military strength. His beef is with the recruitment outsourcers and conservative politicians' concentration on cyberwarfare rather than traditional military forces.

If army needs men with more muscles, then perform more drills to have more of them -.-

That does make sense,.
