All year?
Do you feed her in winter?

Well i do see a deer hanging around in the summer too , but they change their colour a bit in summer , so i can,t be sure its the same one...There are lots of them running around on my land , and in the fields beyond , but two in particular come very close to the house...I am sure i could make friends with them , but as the hunters also come close to here i don,t want to teach them that humans are nice people , as it will lesson their survival chances....I must say it peeves me a bit that hunters can legally come on your land to shoot stuff , mind you , if i see them , i fire up the Harley , a quick blast of thunder through open pipes soon gets rid of any wildlife that might have been a target...

I don,t actively feed them in the winter , but i do throw my excess apples over the fence so that any hungry animals can have a chomp on them..

Binomial name
Capreolus capreolus
(Linnaeus, 1758)

Range of Capreolus capreolus
The European Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus) is a deer species of Europe, Asia Minor, and Caspian coastal regions. There is a separate species known as the Siberian Roe Deer (Capreolus pygargus) that is found from the Ural Mountains to as far east as China and Siberia. The two species meet at the Caucasus Mountains, with the European species occupying the southern flank of the mountain ranges and adjacent Asia Minor and the Siberian species occupying the northern flank of the mountain ranges. Within Europe, the European Roe Deer occurs in most areas, with the exception of northernmost Scandinavia (north of Narvik) and some of the islands, notably Iceland, Ireland, and the Mediterranean Sea islands; in the Mediterranean region it is largely confined to mountainous regions, and is absent or rare at low levels. Scottish roe deer were introduced to the Lissadell Estate in Co. Sligo in the Republic of Ireland around 1870 by Sir Henry Gore-Booth, Bt.[2]. The deer survived in that general area for about 50 years before they died out and there are not believed to be any roe deer currently

Thats exactly the same species as i had in my garden....In the UK we would call it a roe deer...thats a female one you have a great pic of.....I already posted a pic of the one that sits under my window , she is there most mornings , and rests there most of the day untill dusk when she goes in search of food....

jump on your bike this evening

Might be a bit cold for that...got a bit soft in my old age , but i will be venturing out in the car to the local town , passing through a few small villages on route.....I think it was the sight of all these glowing candles that made me realise that Poland was very different from the UK...The respect shown to the dead suprised me , and was one of the things that made me feel i was living in a better country...

I really would like to experience this for myself in Poland.

I am not a follower of religeon...but i got dragged to this ceremony by a Polish ladyfriend who was putting on a play with her children , she is a teacher....You would have to be pretty hard not to be moved by all this....I am going to go to one this year...just for the atmosphere...

Life / If I could introduce something from my country into Poland, I would.... [175]

Makes my mouth water reading all the stuff people miss foodwise.....I really miss being able to phone up , and have a Chinese or Asian meal delivered to my doorstep , but thats the price you pay for moving to another country , things are different , i find many aspects of Polish life better than the UK , and there is no doubt i wopuld miss many things i have got used to in Polska , if i were forced to return to the UK...

I would not want to introduce too many things to Poland from my country...if i did , it would not be Poland any more....adapt and survive as they say...

Beetle in Polish is Żuk.

Oh don,t get me going on that one....... first time i saw a Zuk truck i was sure the first letter of its name was an F.....even when i looked closer , it still looked like an F......so from that moment on this vehicle was known as a fuk truck......

Perhaps the ones you caught as a kid were sticklebacks , they are a bit pinkish.....I think the ones in your pictures are minows , but i am not much of an expert on fish . other than the kind you eat with chips on Scarborough seafront...

HA..i am happy to report that this evening i actually saw a badger for the first time in Poland... One of the things i brought back from the UK in my fully loaded Jeep was a new mountain bike , so tonight i went for my first ride on it... I rode ten miles along a tarmac cycle track that is near my home , it used to be a rail line , and runs through lovely countryside to the town of Polczyn zdroj...

These cycle tracks are great for spotting wildlife , seems a cycle makes less noise than a person walking , so you can get pretty near to animals before they leg it....

On my ten mile cycle i saw four rabbits , a deer , a large eagle that scared the hell out of me when it launched itself off a branch just over my head , and as dusk fell i came up behind a badger cantering along the track ahead of me , when i got close he turned off into the long grass , but i did get pretty close....

So if you want to see the wildlife , leave the car at home , and get on yer bike.... I feel strangely healthy too for some reason...?

killer bees

EH..?? Not sure about killer bees , but we have some big aggressive hornets that can kill you if you get stung enough times....

If you are refering to the African bees , which can be more aggresive than the usual European bee , i don,t know if they are in Poland , but no doubt somebody will tell us about that..

All the mozzies here have the deadly Macdonalds virus which , if bitten by one causes you to eat big macs till you burst....

oh.....Shewolf.......... swooooooon

occasional raccoon

We get racoons in Poland too , which originated in the USA... seems they were brought into what was then Germany by Mr Herman Goring of the Luftwaffe around 1937 as he was a keen hunter , and thought they would be a nice addition to the forest....They have since spread over all Germany , and into Poland too...

I am told they can be a bit naughty , getting into houses , stealing food etc , but the ones around here seem to be quite shy....

Badgers are not aggressive towards humans , and will leg it at the first smell or sign of a human....They do however have some pretty fearsome teeth and claws and would use them if you were silly enough to corner one and grab hold of it.....

Around my home i have seen lots of badger tracks , but not been lucky enough to see one of them as yet...

I suppose you are aware that the original poster has no interest in helping children in any way , but merely wants to run a shock horror story in their newspaper about Polish kids being abandoned by their parents in order to work abroad....After being cotacted by this person and finding out the facts i have no wish to help them sell trashy news stories....

Life / Popular and Practical Cars in Poland [49]

When it comes to car safety , size matters.! Its a fact , that if a small car , and a big car hit each other , the people in the small car are likely to die.... If you can afford to fuel and maintain a big car its the much safer option...

Somewhere on this forum there is a thread about what exactly it costs to import a car , and the rules and regulations for doing so...From what i remember you have to pay a percentage of the value of the car , and you have to own it for six months before import , but all the information is on here somewhere....

Another thing to consider is spare parts , some models , like Chrysler for example have dealers over here , might be worth while to check out where is the nearest dealer for the car you choose to the place you are going to be living...

or if that would just stick out too much

There are plenty of big 4 x 4 cars in Poland , so its size would not make it stick out too much.....I think the American registration would be likely to make it stand out more...

You would have to be carefull where you parked it in big cities , as somebody might think you are a rich tourist with lots of goodies on board that might be worth stealing....
