News / Karol Nawrocki - the New President of Poland [495]

Maybe he would be a better candidate to deal with Nawrocki, but we don't really know if it would be enough to win. I personally have no idea.

From what I've read - Sikorski made a reservation for him and Trzaskowski at that Mentzen pub, so it looks like that meeting with Mentzen took place thanks to Sikorski. He clearly is smart and is showing initiative.

He's also viewed as the best minister in the current government according to a survey from the end of December 2024: 🤔

News / Karol Nawrocki - the New President of Poland [495]

it should have been Sikorski from the start, not Trzaskowski who already lost one elections to Duda

The first time he lost also with very small margin and PiS was on the winning streak back then.
I think they picked Trzaskowski as a "likeable candidate", since so far Poles did tend to choose "likeable" people for presidents (that ended with Nawrocki, it seems). And of course he is a known face thanks to being the mayor of the capital of the country (and Warsaw is doing well as a city). His English is very good, he's presentable, behaves normal/well.
Trzaskowski's drawbacks, imho, are that he lacks charisma, and, at least to me - he looks tired/depressed all the time. He seems a bit "ciapowaty".
Sikorski definitely isn't "ciapowaty", but had his drawbacks too as a presidential candidate for the coalition. He made some blunders (thanking the US for blowing up Nord Stream), so maybe they feared he's going to be unpredictable i znowu coś palnie. Maybe they also thought that he's going to be too right-wing/hawkish for the more liberal side of the coalition, I don't know. I think it's easy to judge now after the fact. Maybe he would be a better candidate to deal with Nawrocki, but we don't really know if it would be enough to win. I personally have no idea.

Kosiniak-Kamysz or, even better, Sikorski. Tusk is finished.

Don't be silly. Tusk isn't finished. You sound as if Nawrocki won by a landslide. He didn't. It was very close. Of course, it's disappointing that Trzaskowski lost, but I doubt it's just about who was the candidate for the president or who is the prime minister. It's also (or maybe mainly) about policies, etc. The coalition should draw conclusions from what happened, do some research about why certain groups voted the way they did (young people, farmers, for example) and prepare for parliamentary elections with that in mind.
As for Kosiniak-Kamysz - he has literally zero charisma and is even more "ciapowaty" than Trzaskowski and PSL isn't exactly respected much by people in Poland in general, from what I've noticed, so I don't see how or why he would become the prime minister o_O

that people hate this government, if not for dirty campaigning and lies and huge support from abroad, Tusk's boy wouldn't have so many people voting for him..

I see you're too narrow-minded to comprehend that there are people in Poland that have different views, and so, no, Tusk doesn't need "dirty campaigning and lies and huge support from abroad" to get people voting for him.

News / Karol Nawrocki - the New President of Poland [495]

So yes - Americans also used to not hate each other. Now it's like two parallel countries living side by side.

Wait, and give the hate time to grow.

I'm afraid Bobko may be right here. I see this evolving in Poland and it's depressing...

This whole phenomenon will grow and grow until it ceases to work.

I wonder what will be the end of this though...

One percentage vote difference does not signal any big changes in the country, just more division.

Yes, Poland is literally split in half these days.

leftists decided to vote for Nawrocki rather than Trzaskowski: about 20% of 1st round Senyszyn voters, 16% of Zandberg, 14% of Hołownia and 10% of Biejat!

This is the weirdest sh1t ever... o_O

News / Presidential elections 2025 - the race has commenced!!! [665]

So, there is no freedom in Poland. Maybe because women have the right to vote.

Yes, yes, "genius", beating people up is illegal in Poland, because women have the right to vote :D Don't stop there and admit that you can't legally assist suicide and rape kids in Poland also thanks to women's right to vote :D 😂🤦 No freedom in this country, seriously... lol 🙄

Also, to Paulina - regarding drug trafficking. A lot of skinheads/punks were/are famously straight edge.

What does it have to do with the subject matter? Polish football hooligans are the topic here and not the world's skinhead and punk movement.

Stupid, at the time, it wasn't illegal. Anyway, there is nothing wrong with it.

Of course it was illegal lol That's why people got arrested in 2009.

People wants to kick each other ass, that is their freedom.

Not in Poland, stupid.

Skinheads are not Nazis.

Sorry, Bobko, but, again, we're talking about Poland here... When I was a kid in the 90's that's what we were calling neo-Nazis ("skini")... So I don't know what kind of views Kania had at that time...

Apparently there were three groups of skinheads in Poland - one of them were neo-Nazis:

pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skinhead

Hooligans (as in, organized fans of a sporting team (...) are not usually stupid people.

Polish police (and probably majority of normal people in Poland) would beg to differ :)))

Nearly always, its a phase that people grow out of and then carry on to be responsible adults.

That's the thing, it looks like it took Nawrocki a long time to grow out of it (if he ever did).

But an absolute minimum of hooligans actually get involved with organized crime.

We're not talking about the world's football hooligans now though, but about Polish football hooligans in particular:

The former cop reminds that those fights are illegal

He also mentioned that the PiS' presidential candidate took part in the biggest such fight in the recorded history of Polish hooliganism. It wasn't such a "noble fight" as Nawrocki would want people to believe:

tvn24.pl/trojmiasto/koscierzyna-szczegoly-brutalnej-bijatyki-pseudokibicow-mial-brac-w-niej-udzial-karol-nawrocki-st8484880

And that wasn't some kind of "mistake of the early youth" - Nawrocki at that time was 26-years-old, married, studying for his doctorate and... working at IPN already... while taking part in illegal fights alongside real criminals.

Kania here, has mentioned several times his skinhead past. He seems a level headed guy to me.

I don't think Kania is defending and glorifying neo-Nazism and criminal acts these days though? And he is not running for the office of the president of Poland.

Like - almost you could treat it like an indicator if the person is interesting.

LOL!

Bobko :D I'm honestly not surprised that someone like you is defending pathology :) Taking drugs, hools' fights... What are you going to be defending next? lol 🙄🤦

May I introduce you to some of those "interesting" people:

bankier.pl/wiadomosc/WP-Nawrocki-bral-udzial-w-jednej-z-najslynniejszych-kibolskich-ustawek-w-Polsce-8947485.html

'The leader of this group was Mirosław "Olaf" O. and his deputy was Przemysław "Żaba" Ż. "Both of them were later sentenced for being part of an organised criminal group that was setting up hooligans' fights and was involved in drug trade. The Lech group was taken down by CBŚP already four months after the fight - the portal informs. In the group of Lech Gdańsk there was Olgierd L. - arrested these days for arson incitement, illegal gun trade, criminal battery incitement and Daniel U. aka "Dzidek". The portal informs that "Dzidek" was sentenced in 2023 for 15 years in prison for a brutal murder of a teenager in Kraków with the use of a machete. Earlier he also took part, among others, in a brutal attack on a GKS Katowice hooligan.'

In this video a former Polish police officer is criticising president Duda for "normalising pathology" in his comment about football hooligans' fights (the so called "kibolskie ustawki"):

The former cop reminds that those fights are illegal and explains that those are often fights for influence among organised crime groups. For those who don't know - football hooligans often create criminal groups (Polish equivalent of gangs, I guess) that are involved in all kinds of crimes, including drug trade, human trafficking, etc.

Police officers have been complaining that Polish filmmakers are glamorizing "gangsta life" in recent years and now this... The Polish president and one of two main presidential candidates... 🤦

but now every coming day leads to a bump for Nawrocki and a decline for Trzaskowski.

According to Polish polls in recent days Trzaskowski and Nawrocki have been exchanging as leaders with very small advantage. It's a very tight race... Those polls are going to give me a heart attack lol ;/

99.99% of things were made by men.

Firstly, no, they weren't and most definitely 99.99% of things aren't made by men these days.
Secondly, 100% of men were and are being made by women. Your body exists because it was literally built and fed by a woman's body. Also, majority of men in this world were and are being taken care of and raised by women.

And you, Novichok, instead of appreciating women for that, you deride them, put them down, demean them, lie about them and you're hating on them. You and Poloniusz haven't deserved to be birthed by a woman.

Women fill their butts and tits and pose for clicks.

Firstly, that's a minority of women. Secondly, men these days get all kinds of "beauty enhancements" too and they "pose for clicks" too. Don't make me show you examples of that lol

News / Abortion still under control in Poland - part 2 [383]

For you, Lenka/Paulina, does this count as a mark against Trzaskowski?

No, because that's not his fault and he made his views known on this matter:

gazetaprawna.pl/wiadomosci/kraj/artykuly/9786995,debata-prezydencka-trzaskowski-jestem-za-prawem-do-aborcji-do-12-tygodnia.html

his Daddy Tusk did not manage to rollback PiS-era abortion restrictions. This may hurt him at the ballot box.

I think anyone who knows anything about Polish politics understands that they wouldn't be able to roll back those restrictions as long as there's a PiS president in Poland. That's one of the reasons why we need Trzaskowski to win.

They could've at least organise a referendum about abortion - I don't know if it will hurt Trzaskowski at the ballot box or not that they didn't though.

No, pimp and wannabe gangster Nawrocki would be worse...

Yes, this.

Viacheslav is reporting in this video about how Polish elections are talked about in Putinist RuSSia and it looks like RuSSians prefer Nawrocki o_O:

They think RuSSia will have a bigger chance of having an influence on Poland if Nawrocki wins lol
I wonder where are they getting this idea from? 🤨 As much as I'm against PiS - it isn't a pro-RuSSian party... ;D 🤔

Off-Topic / Eurovision - Today I will be ashamed to be Polish [586]

And you don't have to try to put words into people's mouths.

Jon357, I wrote that juries' votes and the viewers' votes were quite different in general. That means many juries (or maybe even all of them, I don't know) voted differently than the public. And your comment to that was "That's often a sign of that*." (*of bribery). That's why it looked like as if you suspected all the juries that voted differently than the public of being bribed. Is that your claim?

@jon357, you don't have to be so rude and crude :)

So, do tell which juries were bribed, according to you, considering how much the public vote and juries vote differed in general, not just in Poland :)

@jon357, so all juries were bribed according to you? lol By Austria? ;D In public vote Israel won massively, so that was clearly a sympathy vote. In juries vote Austria won. My conclusion is - the public voted with their hearts and the juries with their ears (+ the typical Eurovision geographical sympathies, of course). 🤔

Wow....Israel second place???

Who would have thought it....

Yeah, right? I think the public vote for Israel must've been a sympathy vote? I was surprised by Albania too. I didn't see it coming. Maybe because they performed last?

At least nobody with zero points this time, heh:)

Yes, I was surprised by some zero votes from the public though - for Switzerland and the UK o_O

Poor San Marino....were they that bad?

Well, I didn't like their song... But there were also others I didn't like. I don't remember which one was the worst lol I guess someone had to finish last. I'm guessing that David's statue chewing bubble gum with a grimace on his face in the backround and the weird mask on the singer's face didn't help either... Who comes up with this stuff... lol 🤦

I think women don't like that performance

Well, I'm guessing why men would like her performance lol :))) But I personally care about music/songs the most, not performances, and that particular song was simply not my thing musically.

Isince partly it makes fun of female.... non fulfillment).

I had zero idea what this song is about, to be honest. That's often my problem with Eurovision songs, because I can't relate on the lyrics level, so the music has to be great/original/memorable somehow.

I don't mind Austria's song in the abstract but I hate the idea of it winning.... another neuter male singing falsetto.... (ręce opadają....)

That song was beautiful and his was voice was beautiful too. The most memorable song for me. So I'm glad it won :) I haven't been watching Eurovision contests lately, so that type of singing was something new for me. I didn't even know that men can sing this way these days - I thought only castrati could sing like that! o_O

In the end I voted for Austria.

I didn't talk about morphine, but poppy infusions (tea) and poppy concentrate.

And I didn't comment on that, but on your comment about the fact that "cocaine used to be an ingredient of cough syrups and Coca Cola".

Same with cocaine - which not an opioid at all, so I'm not clear on what your point is.

You compared cocaine with roast chicken, ffs lol 🤦

By the way - thanks to the US and Poles included - the Taliban was toppled in 2001.

Pity that it didn't last.

Two million people in Russia became addicted to heroin, the largest number in the world at the time. Thank you NATO!

Problems with drug addiction in RuSSia started way before the overthrow of the Taliban in Afghanistan.

@Bobko, one more thing, because your manipulations blow my mind:

Remember - cocaine used to be an ingredient of cough syrups and Coca Cola.

And morphine made of opium was an ingredient in syrups used by mothers to quiet babies and make them fall asleep*. Some of them never woke up:

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26163533/

"Opium's toxicity for infants was common knowledge; thousands of cases of lethal intoxication had been reported from antiquity. What is remarkable is that the willingness to use it in infants persisted and that physicians continued to prescribe it for babies. Unregulated trade, and even that protected by governments, led to greatly increased private use of opiates during the 19th century. Intoxication became a significant factor in infant mortality. As late as 1912, the International Hague Convention forced governments to implement legislation that effectively curtailed access to opium and broke the dangerous habit of sedating infants."

*As far as I remember I got to know about that from an excellent BBC documentary "The War on Opium. Addicted to Pleasure." It tells, among others, about what a devastation the addiction to opium caused to the Chinese society in the 19th century. This addiction was facilitated by the British. That was the cause for the First Opium War. The Second Opium War resulted in China being forced by Britain and France to legalise opium. Absolutely shameful.

Why criminalise less dangerous things

Because - unlike in case of alcohol and cigarettes - it's doable.

My view of the alcohol vs drugs situation is as follows - alcohol has become, unfortunately, part of the culture of many nations. It's a drink often consumed with meals and thus became an element of social gatherings. It's an element of social celebrations. That's not the case with drugs. I think drug use is still preventable, as long as it's not going to be socially acceptable and it's going to be penalized by the law. That's why I'm happy with the Polish law in this regard and I hope that this law won't change (I see no reason for that at present).

Where my company's plant is, in Upstate New York - there is literally nothing else to do - than to get high and forget oneself.

Bullsh1t. I grew up in a blue collar neighbourhood with an alcoholic father where there was nothing to do either. My way for escapism when being a teenager, for example, was reading fantasy books, listening to music, watching films and drawing and not getting drunk or high. The last thing I would want would be becoming a drunk like my father.

What should I do, Ptak?

Get therapy?

stab vests only cover part of the body.

Just like bulletproof vests. They protect vital organs. That's the point of wearing such vests. That killed paramedic was stabbed near his heart.

I honestly don't understand why anyone in the right mind would be against first responders protecting themselves.

Education? Publicity?

That's one of the paramedics' requests to the government. You'd know that if you read the article.

All the stuff you are writing about collapsing veins and rotting teeth is because these people are using dirty needles and smoking nasty aluminum pipes - not because of the heroin.

Collapsing veins are mainly due to numerous injections. This can occur also in hospital conditions. And as for teerh and gum problems:

betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/conditionsandtreatments/teeth-and-drug-use

Portugal just decriminalized drugs completely

A decriminalized drug is still illegal, but the punishment would not be a criminal sanction, like arrest or incarceration. Instead, offenders may still face a civil fine or require drug treatment/education:

"In July 2001, a new law maintained the status of illegality for using or possessing any drug for personal use without authorization. The offense was changed from a criminal one, with prison as a possible punishment, to an administrative one if the amount possessed was no more than a ten-day supply of that substance.[4] This was in line with the de facto Portuguese drug policy before the reform. Drug addicts were then to be aggressively targeted with therapy or community service rather than fines or waivers.[19] Even if there are no criminal penalties, these changes did not legalize drug use in Portugal. Possession has remained prohibited by Portuguese law, and criminal penalties are still applied to drug growers, dealers and traffickers." (Source: Wikipedia)
