Northern Lights in Poland

Thanks to the biggest geomagnetic storm in 20 years the aurora borealis was visible in the whole of Poland, even in my city (unfortunately I didn't know about it and so I missed it). However, apparently it may still be visible this weekend, even if not as strong.

Kielce after midnight - photo by Agata Pasoń (so jelly ;/): 😍

Amazing to see them so far south! You may have another chance tonight Paulina, sometime around 11:30pm Polish time.

They are seen regularly in the northern counties of Ireland during the winter months but only when we have clear skies - which isn't that often! Where my sister lives, local people watch the forecast, word spreads around the community, those without a car or who don't drive are offered lifts and everybody heads off to the best viewing points. We sometimes see them a shade of bright green, very apt!

You may have another chance tonight Paulina

I will have to try today in the evening,

Do Paulina as the next two nights should be fantastic.
The best time to see them is between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.
Try to get away from the white light of the cities and go out to the dark country.
I wish you luck in having no clouds tonight or Sunday night.
Take a bottle of wine, a blanket, and your lover and set up so you can look to see the northern horizon.
Quite a light show when they start changing colors.

@cms neuf, the same here :(((

It looks like it "blew over" during the day and now it's gone... :(

There doesn't seem to be any indication that there's going to be anything to see tonight, so I'm going to sleep... Maybe tomorrow... *sigh* 😢

Goodnight.

Well guys they are peaking here right now in Northern Michigan.
The skies are as clear as a bell.
They are dancing in the sky with much rolling movement with them.
I took several pictures and will see if I can figure out how to download them so I can shut the jealous Snitch up once and for all. (Wishful thinking) 🙄

(We can always tell when he has been drinking can't we) 🥴 He turns into a real ass hole.
What a light show though.
I have seen the Nothern Lights hundreds of times in my lifetime but nothing like tonight ever.
Thank you, Lord, for the free entertainment tonight.

Whereabouts in Northern Michigan, just curious? Iron City or Thunder Bay, perhaps?

Wow, that must be awesome... 🥺 How many times did you manage to see them?

Amazing photos!

I agree! I don't think I've seen such photos of "aurora clouds" and those stars shining through the aurora! Wow! 🤩
The author is Ewa Wydrzyńska-Scelina and the photos were taken on Friday/Saturday after midnight :)

Ill have another chance tonight, no rain, partly cloudy, never know...

I hope you'll succeed - fingers crossed! 🤞

Yesterday during sunset big-ass, thick and dark clouds covered the sky in my area, unfortunately :( There was just a tiny fragment of sky left and after sunset I could see a nice turquoise colour of the sky, but I don't know if that was just a post-sunset sky or whether it had anything to do with aurora... The sky cleared only later at night, but I didn't see anything, so I went to sleep...

My parents went to my grandma to the countryside on Saturday, so in theory they should have great conditions - no clouds, dark skies, great view on the horizon, but they didn't see anything during yesterday evening either... :(

I guess you have to get lucky with the location or what? Because look at those photos - they were taken yesterday evening at Chańcza lake in my region (I know this lake, I've been there) at around 22:50 - so magical!: 😍

Nothing so far here just outside Toruń :(

Did you get lucky in the end?

Those are photos of aurora taken by Piotr Wierzbicki yesterday evening at around 22:00 not far from Toruń (around 17 minutes drive from Toruń) in Piwnice (there's a university astronomical observatory there - you can see Poland's biggest radio telescope in those photos):

Helpful links for those who still want to try to see aurora today:

For people living in Poland - aurora forecast for Poland - you can check the present situation, what was happening earlier and what will happen in around 30 minutes - just choose the hour (for now the map is completely gray, so there's no aurora visible in Poland right now):

meteologix.com/pl/aurora

The world - if you scroll down you can choose "North America", "Europe and Asia" and "Southern hemisphere" to check what are the chances of seeing aurora at your location at the moment (right now it's 0% for both Europe and Asia):

spaceweatherlive.com/pl/aktywnosc-zorzowa/zasieg-zorzy-polarnej.html

Here you can find recent news about solar storms, play the aurora simulation for the planet for today (it doesn't show the latest 2 hours, but can give you some idea about what's going on) and if you scroll down the charts there's also Estimated Planetarny K Index (it doesn't show the latest 3 hours though):

Iron City or Thunder Bay, perhaps?

There is no Iron city in Michigan and Thunder Bay is not a city in Michigan either, it's a bay.
I live about a 100 miles south of the Mackinaw Bridge.

Google: Michigan Northen Lights
They put the ones posted here to shame
Just wait until you see the pictures that I took last night.

The map of Poland is getting green, so people in the North of Poland may see something, it looks like there's going to be K7 aurora in 30 minutes (it's nowhere near what we had in Poland on Friday though - it was K9).
johnny reb  46 | 7516

it was K9

I thought a K9 was a dog.

I missed it)

Me too :(

It wasn't supposed to be in my part of the UK so I didn't bother to look for it but I've seen many photos taken in my town. Stayed up on the Saturday in the vain hope of a repeat performance, but nothing.

Love the Bieszczady Mountains photos :)

Welcome to the club... I didn't see anything either :( I missed my probably only chance to see the aurora in my own city... 😭 I wish the media informed about it sooner, so I'd know beforehand and prepare or at least I'd look out of the window/go out on the balcony... 😞

Love the Bieszczady Mountains photos :)

Me too :))

Youre the only moron in the history of PF that cant figure how to upload a photo. How many years have you been here all day and night?

Now, Jimmy wants everyone to believe hes only capable of uploading to google, so he can claim someone else's work, thats all!....lol

Just wait until you see the pictures that I took last night.

Taken whilst you were flying in your learjet , no doubt..hahaha

Welcome to the club... I didn't see anything either

Nope, whilst we were out on the lake in my boat fishing.
Totally awesome.

so he can claim someone else's work

That did it, now I am not going to post them for everyone to enjoy as you would bang on for weeks that I copy and pasted them because you are so jealous.

Thank the Snitch for missing out on some killer pictures of the N. Lights.
His trolling ruined it again for everyone here.

That is a video at Adrians funeral that you claimed there was no cameras at, yet Cargo posted it, liar, as the egg dripped off your face on that one.

I will be posting pictures of the Northern Lights because the girls were so interested in them.
Please stop trashing this thread for the sake of them.
