Food / Comparison of supermarkets in Poland. Which one is the cheapest? [30]

According to a farmer I know, thats true.

Last year I tried growing vegetables and herbs on my farm in a section left completely chemically untreated. What I got was 1.5 meter high weeds and millions of insects. Most of the vegetables and herbs were swamped out. The moles had a go as well.

Growing without chemicals is not easy.

all the equipment was sold to Polish farmers.

Got evidence for that sweeping statement?

News / Poland fines singer for bashing Bible [159]

It wasn't until the 19th century that bacteria in water was identified as the cause and it was a scientist who discovered it by pin-pointing the water pipe that was the source of a cholera out break.

I'd give you the name and dates but that bastion of 'Free-Speech', the USA, has shut down Wikipedia.

Seperation of church and state. It's about time Poland gets out of the stone age.

Which is ridiculous coming from a American, a predictable and meaningless mantra.

She deserves the fine for her most idiotic and erroneous reasoning.

No, she deserves the fine for breaking a law. If you don't like a particular law, tough ****.

Different countries have different sensibilities, drinking alcohol, sex with 16 years olds or prostitution is illegal in some countries, outrageous you may think but in their country they make the law so abide by it.

Real Estate / Residential real estate values go down in Poland [455]

So it would need to fall by 8.7% to reach the 'correct' value. Hardly a bubble! And not too good for our bet.

Its on top of already substantial falls.

Life / Price of cigarettes in Poland? [192]

my brother and his girlfriend only smoke their roll-your-owns

I wonder why people don't smoke the locally grown stuff. it must be dirt cheap, although probably vile.

Life / Automobiles vs. Pedestrians in Poland [77]

Apparently you can't cross the road here as a pedestrian if there is a red man or you get a fine.

This is quite normal in many countries.

Yes, but the difference in Warsaw is less than 5%. The point is there must be a reason why new build prices have suddenly risen this month, contradicting the secondary market, the tend and everywhere else in Poland. It would have to be repeated to be truly significant, one month could be a fluke.

Asking prices, not selling. so only indicative for new, as they are not entirely comparable.

It could explain the 8% between asking and selling prices in Krakow.

(4% was a mistake, BTW)

It would be interesting to compare the selling prices of 'new' properties vs older properties, actually.

knock yourself out, click on Check average prices

en.otodom.pl

Choose a location and its shows average asking price trends for the last six months for both primary and secondary property.

Down 2.2% in Krakow for second hand property and up for new.

News / Will Poland be badly hit by Recession ? I don't think so. [70]

A charming but pointless article. "Do you THINK there's a poverty problem" does not mean there IS a poverty problem.

The definition of poverty is to be below a certain %age of an countries average earnings.

So matter how rich or poor a country is there will always be some who are relatively poor. They don't make that clear in these sorts of surveys.

Real Estate / Residential real estate values go down in Poland [455]

Two of the most expensive items that anyone will buy in their lifetime.

Can't you get it into your head that there are fundamental differences between consumables (food, petrol and cars) and assets (land, houses).

Sure houses wear out, but in a time scales ten to a hundred times longer than a car. 99% of all property is not manufactured but is already in existence in any year so the price is determined by the existing stock not the cost of building, and the price of existing property is mainly about the cost of land.

so where is the money to guarantee these bonds coming from...

In your haste to make a cheap shot, you failed to include the full quotes from Socialism Today:

socialismtoday.org/154/abyss.html

They have lent money to banks in exchange for assets such government bonds as collateral. Buying bonds is banned, even via the IMF scheme that has today been vetoed by the Bundesbank.

Real Estate / Residential real estate values go down in Poland [455]

He uses examples from Ireland and the US to enforce his arguments but fails to realise that Poland has a far different problem. He thinks new properties should be sold for less than it costs to build them, ie: around the 2,000 PLN m2 mark. He seems not to able understand that no developer is going to do this.

Even if they are very unlikely to fall to that level, the price won't be determined by a developer, but by the market. The fact that developers won't build is irrelevant.

the developer would be better off buying Greek and Italian bonds, at least the EU will back the debt.

The EU will never do that, its illegal in the EU and Germany and any country could veto it.

So where is the "bubble" in Poland?

You seem to be confused, they are listing the top ten countries who have had the biggest crash, i.e. a bubble that has burst.

Hey Milky, Poland is not even in the top 10!!!!!

Probably becuase the Daily Mail doesn't believe there is a housing market in Poland, as everyone lives in mud-and-sod hovels.

I've heard there are worse countries for driving in Europe but Poland has to be in the top 5.

Poland is the number 1 most dangerous.

Life / Poles - the Nation of Liars? [478]

To the expats that live in Poland and whine about the Poles,go back to your own countries or find one to suit you better.

I wouldn't worry about it, they are sad losers wherever they live.

Wait a minute - this was started by Wroclaw Boy ??

That's interesting...

History / Polish conscripts to German army [132]

After they (the polish POW's held by Stalin) were let out of the camps in Archangel and travelled to Odessa thence to Egypt, most of them caught diseases which has been shown to cause mental illness in later life. Couple with loosing everything and being made a stateless person, Poles ended up with a higher case of suicide.

I can understand he was mentally damaged, I can just about forgive him, but my brother simply hates him as pure evil.

History / History behind Poland and Turkey's Relationship [118]

Poland, Slavs in general (except Russia) in approach to peace coming from

Serbs and Poles have nothing in common, stop trying to link them together. Serbs are, as you continue to demonstrate, insane.

Definitely, any sane Polish patriot must be convinced how are EU and NATO deeply anti-Polish

Proving my point...

History / Greatest Polish and Slavic scientists, their discoveries, inventions and achievements [27]

Whats the matter with Croats? they are Slavs too, Serbs share blood with them and they are just as Polish as Serbs. Lets have a few Croatian and Kosovo scientists, in the mix.

Alternatively can you stick to Polish scientists?

Sorry Seanus which small part would that be? I am quite convinced knowing his fathers and mothers family background.

He was born in Croatia and he worked in America, so he's American.

I'm confused, do you mean we should comment in this thread or that thread ?

Purchased a ticket on Lot for JFK-WAW-OTP departing on November 1st for an emergency family funeral.

Arn't the airlines supposed to give you a discount if its to attend a funeral?
