News / Should Poles become a minority in Poland? [150]

Usually the major problem isn't the immigration itself, it's the "speed" of immigration. In many Western European countries too many immigrants came in too short time. That's what causes problems. When there was a "slow" rate of immigration to many WE countries we didn't have these problems we have today.

I'm not against immigration, but it should be at a rate that allows these persons to adapt to their new country and culture.

News / Should Poles become a minority in Poland? [150]

No, Poles shouldn't become a minority in Poland.

But 97% of people living in Poland are ethnically Polish. There are few countries that are so homogeneous. The immigration to Poland is very low comparing to most other countries. And immigration shouldn't go too fast. Too much immigration in too short time is not good for anyone.

Love / Should I Be Nervous About Going to Poland? Black female dating a Pole. [158]

As I wrote about these skinheads/hooligans in another thread. If they see a supporter from another football club they attack him, if they see a foreigner they attack him. And if they find no other people they attack an average Pole.

As PennBoy said, they even attack their own if they don't find anyone else, so they are probably pretty brain dead. They don't even understand their own ideology. And they get no sympathy at all from most Polish people.

I could just picture this gal going up to some little old Babusia, and asking directions in gangtsa rap. Now you tell me that the Babusia would not be grateful?

I don't think anyone is picking on you. And if Babusia lives in the gangsta suburbs (like Nowa Huta or similar) she has probably already heard gangsta rap. :)

Love / Should I Be Nervous About Going to Poland? Black female dating a Pole. [158]

It is what resides within the skin.

That's why it's better to judge from personality and behavior instead of race or skin color. Many people adapt to the new culture (and new way of living) when they move to a new country. The problem in Western Europe is that too many people from other cultures came in a too short time, then it's very difficult for them to adapt to the new culture and new way of life. That's the reason why immigration has caused problem in Western Europe. Earlier when there was a "slower" rate of immigration we didn't see these problems.

Love / Advice from Polish Girls please :) [54]

It's not always a bad thing to ask around a little, it depends on how you do it.

But now you found out that she has a boyfriend, so that's the end of the game. Sometimes it turns out like this, that's life. Good Luck in the future!

A racist. A person who is very happy with his heritage, and all that he asks is to be allowed to live with his own.

No, a racist is a person who judges people from their skin color/race, not from their personality or behavior.

In all races there are good and bad people, isn't it better to judge people from their personality and behavior instead of skin color/race?

But I agree that if you move to another country you should adapt to its culture.

Love / Should I Be Nervous About Going to Poland? Black female dating a Pole. [158]

Lets be honest, black people here and there walk in towns or study Poland every noe and again and yes most of dont like it but we know are visiting and is person here and there, i think if people try moving to Poland then something will be done, i dont want people to say its rascism but it Polish patriotism, not all people dislike people becuase there not white but simply becuase no Polish and wont fit in with Polish life and dont want to end up like west europe were everyone moans about everyone and hates everyone else......

Many Polish people move to different foreign countries. That's exactly the same thing as people from these countries moving to Poland.

Most of the Polish people who move to other countries (and planned to stay their for a very long time) adapt to their new culture. And most people moving to Poland will also adapt to Polish culture (if they are going to stay for a long time).

I don't know how long I will live in Poland, now I am studying. But I have tried to adapt to Polish culture, and I have been received very well by Polish people, they are very friendly to me. How do you explain that?

Language / The best way for me to learn Polish [89]

How's your Polish, SP?

Hehe... it's still kind of limited. But I feel I get better and better, so that gives motivation. Fortunately it's not the first foreign language I learn, so I already had some general linguistic knowledge (it helps a lot). If I get stuck I probably have to get a Polish girlfriend.

And you?

Love / I can't trust Polish women any longer - where to meet a foreign girl? [123]

I'm sure you will find someone that feels right sooner or later. Maybe you should try to open your mind a little bit more. All relationships are about compromising. People don't always get exactly what they want. You seem very "pre-determined", it's nothing wrong with that, but usually it's necessary to "adjust" one's mind when interacting with other people.

Good Luck! :)

Life / I'm engaged to a girl from Poland. Moving to Poland from the US. [28]

Usually people don't glare at everybody.

Some Polish people (young ones tend to do it less) stares at people who don't look Polish. Probably they don't mean to be rude. Because of the small number of foreigners in Poland they are probably just curious. But in many countries it's extremly rude to stare at people, maybe they are not aware of that.

Love / Sick of a Certain Polish Lady - my boyfriends friend [34]

I think that he sounds like a person who you can't, and shouldn't, trust. And then there is only one thing that can be done.

In the other more serious news, you're naive and he's got both the sandwich and the hamburger, whichever you're, you're fastfood.

Have you ever considered writing poems?

Language / The best way for me to learn Polish [89]

You Swedes are pretty quick on the uptake with languages. Most Swedes speak English to a high level, compared with certain other nations.

At least when it comes to English. We have about 700-800 hours English in school (normally we have English for 11 years). You can't go to High School if you don't pass your exams in Swedish, Math and English. So we don't have so much choice, we have to learn English.

I believe there are around 7? in Latin

Yes, I think it's 7 in both Latin and Polish, if I'm not mistaken.

The absolutely best way to learn a language is to live with someone who speaks it, and try to communicate more and more in that language.

Language / Do Polish Movies Help learn the language? [60]

Any suggestions for songs from mostly any genre? I'm not too picky.

Here are a few pretty easy songs from different genre.

Lady Pank - Znowu pada deszcz
(Nice old Polish rock)

Boys - Kochaj Mnie
(Classic Disco Polo song)

Skalar - Straciłaś Cnote (Also note this home made video, HAHA.)
(Maybe not the easiest song, but interesting to translate... hehe.)

Love / SOS!! I feel a little hopeless with my Polish husband... [58]

Internet addiction is more common than people think, but very difficult to solve without professional help.

If this has been going on for 1.5 year, you should tell him to get help and if he doesn't do that within a few weeks you should leave him. It's only a matter of time before he'll get violent.

Love / Could "food" potentially come between us? [25]

I don't know if this is some kind of joke. Or are you the most spoiled person on earth? Being in a relationship with someone is all about compromising in all kind of ways. If this is a too big problem for you I don't even know what to say. I suppose you're not 7 years old. It's not everyday for the rest of your life.

Polish food is considered to be quite good. And refusing to eat the mothers food is basically digging a grave for that relationship.

Just swallow it!

Love / Need help in relationship with a Polish man [33]

Oh my God!

If he is working hard to make money for both him and you, you should do everything you can to help him with the things you can do. This is how healthy relationships work in this part of the world.

If you want a future in a country you must, at least try, to learn the language. But I can also understand him, he must work a lot to get the money needed for everyday life for both him and you. Maybe it will get better when you can start to work too. Then he will have more time and energy to learn better English.

Or maybe he is just the lazy kind of person who wants other people to do everything for him. I don't know him, so I can't tell.

Love / Need help in relationship with a Polish man [33]

Obviously you have communiction problems. I'm sure it can be solved if both really want to. In that case, of course, you both have to make the effort needed. It's always difficult to say something when you only hear one side of the story. But I think that both of you should sit down and think about what kind of relationship you want.

Love / Polish young generation vs older girls [21]

They ask for money and never stop.Or they want you to find a job for them or they want to marry in first month after meeting.

You don't think that depends on what kind of girls you meet?

Love / Pick up lines - the Polish style [110]

why did you choose Bialystok? Trojmiasto is a nicer pleace with an interesting lifestyle and its pretty close to Sweden.

It was basically because I heard that the Medical University in B-stok was voted as the best in Poland some years ago, and that I knew some people here. But in Sweden I live at the sea (in the summer) and I must say that I miss it a little when I'm here in B-stok. So Trojmiasto would have been nice because of the sea. I had a friend who was in Gdansk a couple of weeks ago, he liked the city a lot.

Love / What is the best car to impress a Polish girl? [60]

I think that Fiat 126p cabrio is the best possible option to impress any girl

Also very suitable for Catholic parents to give their son because of the difficulties to have fun in the backseat.

Love / My polish ex threatens to commit suicide after separation [62]

Interesting. I have had to deal with two episodes of cut wrists. The first (an accident) was with cut tendons, but not severed main artery. There seemed to be minimal blood loss, because of shock and fast application of first aid. Result: an immediate operation to fix the tendons.
The second was caused by jagged metal (a broken coke can) Blood everywhere, especially on another guy's coat. It happened in a London street. Result: Police (at first) jumping to conclusions. Young woman hospitalized.

Yes. You can cut several tendons without cutting a big artery. The are only 2 major arteries in the forearm. If you don't hit them you will not have blood everywhere, if you do you will have blood everywhere. Veins can also bleed a lot, but not near as much as an artery. Veins are just dripping.

It also depends on HOW you cut the artery. A transverse cut is less dangerous because effective vasoconstriction (due to shock) can occur. If you make a long longitudinal cut the vasoconstriction will not be effective (=life-threatening bleeding). Cutting off the forearm transversely (so the hand is separated from the forearm) is less dangerous than making a longitudinal cut through 1 of the 2 big arteries. Because of what I explained about effective vasoconstriction.

Love / My polish ex threatens to commit suicide after separation [62]

One wrist will not kill you

I don't want people to get any ideas that it's harmless to cut your wrist.

A longitudinal incision of the radial artery from the proximal to distal part of the forearm will minimize the vasoconstriction and give an extreme increase of the area where it can bleed from. I would say a few minutes before you get unconscious if it's done properly. Transverse incisions are not immediately life-threatening.

it takes (on average) 13 hours to bleed from a single wrist

But I'm sure you would not survive 13 hours (untreated) if you cut your radial artery. Minimal blood clotting will occur because of the very high arterial pressure, arterial blood is not just dripping you know. The only way to stop it is to compress the artey/forearm for a very long time, that will cause blood clotting. But if you cut an artery you often have to make a suture in the arterial wall.
