Life / Disability Law and Payments in Poland - Questions [6]

Similar to those individuals who cheat the disability system in the USA, I find this to be a very common practice in Poland as well.

That's true. But anyway It's better now than a few years ago. A lot of those undeserved disability payments were canceled.

Travel / Going to ski to Poland. Maximum snow? [29]

skiing

To be honest in case of skiing Slovakia is a better place. Polish mountains are over crowded. If you want to go to the city and just see some mountains then you may go to Kraków and go for a trip to Zakopane, which is about 2h away by train/bus. I'm not sure If the end of January is the best idea as I think It is when children have winter break but I'm not sure.

Real Estate / Current state of the property market in Krakow [135]

In today's global crisis, a 3.8% GDP growth wouldn't be that bad at all. Hardly pathetic Greg

But like I said, that's a very optimistic scenario (some expect even less than 2%) and Poland is not Germany or UK, here we need at least 5% to really move forward.

Germany may be entering recession but her spending commitments in Poland (through the EU) are signed and sealed.

I agree that fluctuations on the currency market aren't that bad in this case but looks like you believe that "EU funds" make miracles, when netto these alms from EU have secend rate importance... Polish economy is generally based on export to Euro zone and when the growth over there is around 0% then you must forget about anything even close to strong growth here. And If things get really bad, their "commitments" will be worth nothing.

Life / A trip to a Polish supermarket [136]

I think they are like a lot of jobs here nobody ever sees do anything...left over from communist times

It's the 90's invention. In commie times there was hardly anything to steal in the shops.

History / German POWs after WW2 - did the allies commit mass murder? [228]

the allies suffered a complete moral collapse

Whatever the "allies" did was still far better than Gerries deserved. That's on the "macro scale"... On the individual level indeed some innocent Gerries (as much as Germanics could be) suffered a lot but on the other hand vast majority of their war criminals lived a nice life till the end. The only problem could be unfair redistribution of punishment among Gerries.

Law / My father is 100% Polish, mother is 0% Polish. Citizenship in Poland. [29]

I think the law is that Poland doesn't recognize dual citizenship - the way that a person with let's say both Polish and American citizenship, when is in Poland then is treated as a Polish and only a Polish citizen and that's It. It's not illegal to have more then one citizenships.

Real Estate / Estate agent and notary public Gdansk [6]

Now with all this mess in the banking sector around the world a lot of things are changing but If the priority is the least restrictive way of calculating credit ability then you could check Polbank, Santander Consumer Bank and maybe BOŚ If you haven't done It yet.

Real Estate / Estate agent and notary public Gdansk [6]

By the way, the best offer for a mortgage (200,000PLN own funds) I've had is from Dombank and that came to 150,000PLN. Does anyone know where I could beat that?

I've got not much to do with these things anymore but not so long ago Dombank had a kind of reputation: "Can't get enough cash anywhere else, go there" as they had not very restrictive credit policy, was giving a lot compared to income or value of the property but had rather high rates.

Love / Moved to Poland to my younger boyfriend, now got sick; he's got a new one [194]

Does the same rule apply if the girl is younger than the guy?

Here If women is more than 2-3 years older It is seen as a weired thing. It's a bit different in case of men but they shouldn't be more than 5-6 years older.

hmm. Not handsome, not particularly virile, a failure in life AND a pole..

AND ?
