vndunne 43 | 279 17 Feb 2010 #1Hi. I am just wondering if anyone has had any experience of the following....There may be an oppourtunity to work from home(in poland that is). However, i will need constant access to the IT systems on my Employer...which happens to be in Ireland. I could 'ring' in but i would expect the cost to be pretty high. Has anyone any experince of getting a dedicated line for a situation like this?I know i can ring the phone company but i would like to see first if anyone has any experience of this. Many thanks,Vincent

convex 20 | 3,930 17 Feb 2010 #4Could i ask what you mean by VPN?VPN is probably how you will be accessing your employers IT systems.
OP vndunne 43 | 279 17 Feb 2010 #5hi convex, I have found out what a VPN is. And also, that some people do connect using it.Interesting!!Thanks again,Vincent
lossless 17 Feb 2010 #6In reference to Data Line. If you mean remote internet access, ask your IT department about VPN connection (PPTP or L2TP Server). They should be familiar with this I think :).You can establish such a connection using built-in into your operating system VPN Client (Windows has one for sure). Thanks for this connection, your PC will be seen as physically installed in your Employer office and you will be able to connect to every application there. From your side you need only active internet connection and for example Windows of course.PS. Sorry for my English. I'm beginner.
dnz 17 | 710 17 Feb 2010 #7Get Vonage mate, I've used it for years and I pay £5.99 a month and get a little box that plugs into the router so you can plug a regular home phone into it, You also get a UK or Irish landline number so people can call you. for £5.99 you get free calls to all landlines in the EU.It works exactly like a landline and its really clear even with our pathetic 2mb internet connection.Go on vonage.co.ukIts saved me a fortune over the years and even with calling mobiles a lot i pay no more than £20 per month. I'll show you the setup sometime if you like.
