you can hire bikes there

www,bikers-tours.com

Most of that site is still under construction. I'm sure if you ever get it finished it will be a good site.

the more 404s crop up.

A bit disappointing that the links lead to 404s. Here was me planning a motorbike tour around Poland too...

Ok so the roads are bad, drunk drivers, people who do not look for motorcycles , sounds like the U.S. !....So what kind of motorcycles do they use or rent in Poland ???

If you manage to sort out a bike , and you find yourself in the Drawski national park area you can drop by my place and stay for free...I am an English Harley owner living on my own farm in the forest...come and have a beer and a barbie at my place....

Wildrover , did you purchase your H.D. in Poland ???also on the news today Harley sales have dropped 53% and they will be shuting down some plants and yes layoffs .

did you purchase your H.D. in Poland ???

No , i bought the bike in UK , and rode it to Poland , well apart from the wet bit between UK and Holland , quite a nice ride actually...

Its sad that Harley have lost sales , and are laying people off , but i guess the recession affects everybody....I am sure the factory will survive , they have been through trauma before , and they will get through this one too....Maybe if things get worse people will start buying fuel efficient Harleys instead of thirsty cars....?

Yes that was a hell of a ride you took ****Yes Harley will survive ....did you know they bought MV Agusta motorcycle company in Italy ?
wildrover 98 | 4,438
23 Jan 2009 #38
MV Agusta

Now there is another bike i would love to have in my collection...i well remember watching Agostini thundering around the race track in my home town of Scarborough on an MV....awesome....

The ride to Poland on the Harley was quite easy really , compared to the ride in to Ukraine on it....really lethal roads there , but the people and the cops were friendly enough , and the food and beer very nice.....

So what do they mostly ride in Poland ?????

Five letters. 2 of them are K+S ;)

Its the usual mix of Honda , Yamaha , Kawasaki , Suzuki , along with Harleys and Italian bikes , then of course you have the East European and Russian machines which are fun if you want very basic biking...Bikes are not as popular here as they are in the UK or USA , but they seem to have most of the models that are used in the west , just with a greater number of Polish , Russian and Jawa machines....

good riding roads

All the rural roads are nice to ride on , the main roads are well surfaced , but can be a bit tricky in towns due to deep ruts and tram lines....As for the roads of Ukraine , in places bloody lethal on a motorcycle , full of mega deep pot holes and ruts bad enough to throw you off if you are caught unawares....riding at night is especially tricky....!

Hello, I am also interested in touring in Poland with a rented motorcycle. I just checked the www,bikers-tours,com (replace commas with period)site and did not receive the 404 errors so it must be fixed. They do have a good looking site with many interesting bikes to rent. I sent an email to see if a moto would be available for me to hire this summer. I plan to tour Poland, Czech Republic and maybe some in Germany. I want to trace my great-grand parents emmigration to the USA. My fathers side was from Germany and Bohemia, my mothers side from near Wadowice, Poland.

I will check with the forum for ideas on doing my tour once I get the airline reservations and moto hire confirmed. I am happy to have foind this forum.

Cheers,
Richard

I'm not familiar with this site but hopefully I'll fumble through. I see from the forum you
live and ride in Poland. I have to travel to Cracow on March 31st 09 and choose to do
it by bike but I'm constantly being put off by Poles here in the UK who tell me it would be madness because of the state of the roads / crackpot drivers and the weather will still be too severe. Any advice ? Been riding for donkey's years and have plenty of distance european trips under my belt during most months of the year but I've never travelled east.

In march it may well be a bit cold , might even be some snow still around which can be a problem on a bike as the roads are not often gritted and you can wind up with the snow compressed into a layer of ice , quite good fun in a car , but not too much fun on a bike...

However , i am hoping that march will be snow free , and warm enough to drag my Harley out into the daylight for a ride or two..

Some roads in Poland do have one or two holes , especially after the winter , and these can be a problem untill the roads crews get around to repairing them , the main motorways are in very good condition , as are major roads , but in towns they can be heavily rutted , that and the tram lines can be a bit tricky...

I can,t deny that the Poles have a high accident rate , and drinking and driving seems much more popular here than in the UK...

Strangely enough i find that that people pulling out on me , which was common in the UK , just hasn,t happened here at all , ok , i live out in the sticks , but i travel all over the place on the bike , and i have had much less tricky moments than i have in the car...My car is not looking too good after a drunk Polish driver hit it a glancing blow at 80 mph and trashed the side of it , well i think he was drunk , he didn,t stop...

If you have a fair bit of experiance i don,t see why you can,t survive the cold , Polish roads , the nutty drivers , the odd wild animal jumping out of the forest , and the loose sand at junctions , its all part of the fun...

I have been riding here for five years , and apart from a minor bump with a Polish drunk i have survived intact....

If you want any further advice on riding here , or want to call for a hot coffee on route send me a pm , or post on here and i will send you one with my email address.....safe riding mate.....

I am in contact with a few Harley clubs over here , so i can find out if you can hire a Harley here , there are certainly a few Harley dealers not too far away from me in Gdansk and Poznan...

Oh , sharing my beans , now that would be tricky , don,t mind giving people all my money , but my beans , they would have to be very good friends to get my beans.....

Hi, I'm writing from spain and this summer I hope to cross Polska from Gdansk to Praha, when I return to my country from the North Cape (Norway).

I ride on a trail bike (tenere) and prefer the brown roads to the black ones, but not too much difficult because will road 10.000 kmts and probably will be...tired. If somebody can inform me about a country road track I would be grateful for it.

Thanks/Dziękuję.
A greeting.

Hi wildrover,
thanks for the info. I'm doing a quick ride round the baltics in summer

looking (very roughly)

Fri - Den Haag - Travemunde (ferry to Trelleborg Sweden)

Sat and Sun - mosey over to Stockholm (wild camping on way)

Mon - get ferry over Baltic, briefly stopping on Archipelagos

Tue - Fri afternoon busy in Turku [work]

Fri afternoon - take a scenic route to Helsinki

Sat - get ferry across to Estonia, explore Tallinn, leave for Riga (via
Lahemaa?).

Sun - Riga, start riding for Vilnius.

Mon - Vilnius, Trakai, leave towards Torun.

Tues - Ride to near Berlin via Torun

Weds - Drop into Berlin, then perhaps Sanssouci Palace, head back to Haag.

Thurs - Wake up early and ride (quickly) back to Den Haag. Get ferry
back to Harwich and wobble home. Collapse into bed.

As you can I'm not spending much time in Pl. Do you think that's a mistake? also, do you think Gdansk/closer to Baltics is better than heading through the middle (Torun etc) or south (Krakow)?

cheers,
Peter

Whilst in Tallin be sure to visit the race track and have a look at the memorial to the man Joey dunlop , a great man , and a personal friend of mine..It was he that inspired me to get involved in taking aid to Eastern Europe , something Joey did many times , and so i guess he is somewhat responsible for the fact i now live in Poland...

I think you will find better biking roads in the centre and north of Poland , round Krakow they are a bit more potholed and rutted

Best of luck in Riga and Vilnius , last time i was there the lack of road signs was a real pain , they were in the process of changing many town names from the ones the Russians imposed on them , so many places just had the town sign painted over , with no clue as to what the town was called ,or the new name , hopefully thats been sorted out now...

If you find yourself in Torun , and are headed for Berlin you will be passing close to my place , so you are welcome to have a rest here , and if you get any problems in my area i can maybe help out...

I am located on the 173 route between Drawsko pomorskie and Polczyn zdroj , so if its on your route you are welcome... I am not so far from the German border Szczecin is about 100 kms from me....

If you need any further help or information just pm me and i will give you my email address and phone number....I reckon its going to be a fun trip , but you are gonna know you have done it , its a lot of kms you have there....

Hi there Wildrover

I just stumbled on this site while researching some route info for our (camping) Baltic trip 23 May - 6 June.

We will be making our way back from the Harley Super Rally in Finland (Seinajoki) and will cross Helsinki - Tallinn then travel through Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, to Berlin and back to Dunkerque.

If we are in your area at the right time for you I would really like to call in to say Hi and, perhaps, camp overnight nearby.

There will be 4 of us - 2 Brits and 2 Dutch - all sensible (?) old ex-squaddies so no bother to anyone.

I just looked for Torun and there seems to be 2

I guess from what you have said already that you are in the area of the Wisla river??

If you would like to drop me a mail to harleynospamdave@ymail.com (remove the nospam) we can set something up.

Of course as a Harley rider yourself you might already be going to the SR - in which case we will see you there!!

Cheers

Dave

Hmmm

I just looked a little closer at my maps and I am off-beam there but I found the 2 other places you mentioned Wildrover and the 173 route too.

I guess if we do not travel via Warsaw then we could be in your area...

Anyway - I will wait to hear from you either on here or direct

Cheers

Dave

The bikes on the bikers-tours.com site look nice but are too expensive ($120/day), I'd just like to rent a small motorcycle for a day, a 250cc or maybe a 125cc, to tool around Krakow and neighboring towns, not go on a long tour. I was hoping to spend more around $75.

Anyone know of a place in Krakow that offers up such small bike or scooter rentals (although I don't want to bother with a scooter)? That's the size they ride around here. Krakow is not like Rome, where there are a dozen scooters at every stoplight. There are only a few bikes on the roads here, but they do exist.

Krakow scooter rental:

rentabike.pl/index.php?section=5

5 hours 70 PLN (18 €), whole day 130 PLN (32 €)

Much closer to what I was looking for--very reasonable prices (plus a reasonable 150€ deposit). No motorcycles, however.

I want to tour Poland by motorcycle, anybody living there have some insight on this?

buy good life/health insurance and always ride defensively, people's driving skills (At least in Warsaw) leave much to be desired as do parking skills and lack of common courtesy.
