Has anyone been to this place? Whats the deal with it?

Apparently it is a cocktail bar but after seeing the drinks prices there I figured it was more of a scam for foreigners.

Tyskie 3.3Lt 15zl
Cuba Libre 150zl

They had more or less the most expensive drink prices I've seen in the entire world.
Needless to say I went thirsty and left.

3,3 litre, that is nearly 7 pints...for 15 Zloty? About 3 Euros? I wouldn't call that a rip off :)

>^..^<

M-G (is heading for hard candy tonight - doesn't drink Cuba libre anyway)

Probably a bit of both at that price, or it's a place for people who take pills and don't drink ;)

:) I am not going - I'm not even in PL ;) and to go from Dublin to Krakow just for a cheap beer would be a bit over the top, wouldn't it?

M-G (is going to a nice pub tonight in Dubs tonight instead)

well no actually.. one of the people i was there with stupidly ordered a drink. The rest of us just sat there waiting for them to finish and were given the hard word to order drinks or leave.

Avoid this place at all costs. I was talked up to by a group of three Russian women on Szewska last Friday, and we went there together. Stupid I know, but my usual bull*hit sensor didn't work after a few pints elsewhere with a good friend of mine.

I ordered a single Jameson, and the women some stupid cocktails. A moment later the bloody bill came to me. The price was 560zl.

Well. Of course they kept telling me to be a gentleman. I thought "Bol*ocks to that", but anyway I had to extract myself safely from the basement, so I went to a cash machine with one of the bouncers, and on the way I went straight to a cop van. The cops kindly accompanied me to the place and had some words with the management. I had to pay 60zl for the whisky, which is still a big pile of nonsense, but anyway that wasn't so much of an issue as the extra 500zl that couldn't really be attributed to me.

There are probably some tourists that don't know the normal range of prices.
So, avoid places where a normal drink costs 150 zl.
Now it has been said.

Becareful when you walk down the Szewska Street. Me and my friend was caught by 2 Russian gilrs, and ended up in a bar called Hard Candy and when we came out our bill was up to 1200 zl for 5-6 Drinks.. If they want more foreigners in Krakow then the Police have to take some action and close bars like this.. I know there are plenty of other bars like this in Krakow.. Now i know not go somewhere i where i get invited from the street...

lol. what a stupid thing to say. if you dont wanna be screwed just ask for a menu first or check the prices on the bord or just ask the waiter. if you wanna be macho man buyng drinks for some strange birds from the street in unknown bar dont cry cause its only your own stupidity. did those chicks give you a head at least?

Why? Call it a tourist tax...!

The exact same practice goes in throughout the world - London is notorious for it, though you don't often hear of complaints because it's often gullible/wealthy businessmen targetted.

Having said this, I always strongly advise foreigners new to Poland not to listen to the recommendations of overly friendly people in the street. It's a safe practice in general, and avoids situations such as this happening. The problem is that often, people are blinded by beauty and think with their little man in their trousers :(

So you are telling me that if two gorgeous women come up to me in the street and want to take me to a bar and get me to buy them cocktails - there is a fair chance I am getting ripped off ?????

Nah, refuse to believe it !!!!!

Now i know not go somewhere i where i get invited from the street

To be honest, a lot of street promotion is legit. Lets face it, half the bars in Krakow are hidden away in basements.
Get a bit of crack with the PRs, find out prices etc and you can have a good night.

haha,

we almost entered this place because two girls invited us there, thanks god one of them had a very round head and my friend didnt like her so we didnt enter, I told him, she is ok, good body, forget about the shape of the head, girls entered alone, and they were calling us, my friend insisted that the girl was ugly and we left, now I thank God to make this girl with this round head, otherwise we would have finished paying a lot

HARD CANDY on ul. Szewska is a SCAM a RIPOFF and it is owned by RUSSIAN mafia.

Avoid at all costs! This place should be stormed by police !

The girls are probably in the pay of the bar. The cocktails are probably coloured water. Even a whisky and coke won't have any whisky in if the girls are drinking it.

Had this scam in Turkey and Paris.

I wonder if there's anything like that in Warsaw.

Patrick's Bar has a dreadful reputation (but reasonably normal prices) and there are a couple of very dodgy looking 'gogo bars' including in the Old Town.

And if anyone's daft enough to go to these places, they should read this from today's NPE:

Bouncer hacks off punter’s hand
A bouncer of a sex club in Krakow has been arrested for hacking off the wrist of a customer with a machete after he refused to pay for the club’s services.
Marcin Czarnecki was attempting to leave the Extaza nightclub, a notorious sex joint, on Sunday morning when he was approached by 33-year-old doorman.

i have just been to hard candy and they showed us a normal menu with cocktails on it for 20zl which is about £5 which was acceptable they then swapped menu s once we had ordered the drinks, and then asked us to pay 200zl each for a cocktail which is about £50 pound and showed us an exact menu with changed prices on it, we payed them 20zl each and told them to **** off, there was no doorman on at the time and they would have got told to **** off as well, what a joke Hard Candy is avoid at all costs

also we never got approached off anyone in the street for hard candy, we went there of our own accord, no mention of it being a sex club, above the door it just said Hard Candy, music and cocktail bar we went in for a quiet drink, luckily enough we were not that pissed so we quickly realised it was a scam after i saw them switching menus and had the sense to exit quickly, I must state this was the only bar we had any trouble in in 4 days in Kracow everywhere else was very good, friendly staff and cheap drink prices

Hard Candy Music Bar is the worst music bar in Krakow. They scam tourists. Take a notice of this fact. The are criminals.

.... Poland in the European Union... Not with Hard Candy Bar Krakow ... Which is a place of inhuman scam activities. Everybody who will be forced to pay abnormal fantasy prices, has to become angry and going to the Krakow police. Also possibility

Yeah guys, there were a few scams like this taking place in Krakow last year. The other scam was using Polish girls to get foreigners to buy them drinks, then the security would come and demand 300-500z's for the few drinks.

Just be careful, Krakow is cheap ;)

As local student I think all victims have to warn the local police for Hard Candy Bar.
How more collected facts of scam how more power to punish this criminal bar, owner + personell. Will be inhuman maffiosi! Every lost Euro here is one too much.
