Why does everyone seem to hate LOT Polish Airlines?

The Paris Air Show has unexpectedly made starkly clear that the rivalry between Airbus and Boeing is playing out very differently in the two major airplane categories.

In sales of narrowbody jets, Airbus is clearly on the ascendant.
Airbus announced more than 700 A320 sales in Paris, compared to less than 90 Boeing 737 sales.
Airbus CEO Tom Enders said even he has been surprised by the wild success of the upgraded A320neo, which now has more than 1,000 orders and commitments following blockbuster sales in Paris.

"When I went to the board for approval, I promised strong sales," said Enders. "I didn't think it would be such a best seller only six months after the launch."

But in the market for bigger widebody jets, Boeing has the upper hand. Airbus has to fix problems with its now-delayed A350 family.
As a result, Boeing can look forward to a bonanza of 777 and 787 sales for several years with some sales campaigns almost uncontested because Airbus won't have a competitive jet to offer.

Pat Shanahan, head of airplane programs at Boeing, said that with the 787 Dreamliner soon to enter service and the 777 without any viable competitor until 2017 at the earliest, Boeing's position in the large jet market is "better than good."

No, seriously... every time I fly LOT to Poland I always hear some fool complaining about the service (usually in Polish, btw) and I've lost count of the number of times I've heard such whingers describe them as the "worst airline in the world". Well, I would choose them to fly to Poland every time.

- The main issue is that LOT waited WAAAY to long to update its long haul fleet... They should have turned to Airbus 5 years ago instead they waited on the "dreamliner". They haven't negotiated anything from Boeing to compensate for being 5 years late in delivering the planes.

LOT is a government owned company, as a result, every single government that comes to power in Poland treats LOT as a prostitute: first thing they do is they push their own "buddies" on all management positions within the company. For instance: did you know that Tusk gave a place on the board to bartoszewski, for helping him to win the elections? It is a shame that no one goes to jail for corrupting and evidently working against LOT Corporation that is owned by the Polish tax payer... Just another case of PO corruption.

Merged: LOT - who is running that firm?

Must be some thieving or incompetent of the PO-kind! Political-nominee! Doing nothing to improve service and organization of LOT!
Never again I will use that company - being ripped off and all.
Really sad that those jackasses are running to the ground another firm build on public monies!
Nihil novi sub sole!

What specific problems do you have with LOT?

I usually fly with them and can't recall any serious problems. They're getting new aircraft soon...

Their organization at the airport sucks ! I checked in and I was late about two minutes for my plane, puff I had to buy ticked for another plane.

My being late was entirely fault of LOT's lousy organization.
There was an American dude, giving off as well. Voicing undue generalisations not only about airline but about the country as well, I didn't kick his hole because he was in his late sixties -rude fukker.

bloody trolls - mods do I have to report each post of that idiot ?
just suspend him/her

Same here. LOT arrived late in Warsaw, resulting in missing my connector flight from New York to Los Angeles. Almost had to spend the night in the Big Apple. Ended up boarding an alternate crammed plane, packed like sardines. Arrived in LAX almost 5 hours late. Thanks a lot LOT! (no pun intended)

I have no problems with LOT... better "food" than in Lufthansa, at least in Europe. Never been late anywhere in past 8 years or more.

So LOT did exactly the right thing. That's superb to hear: I'll make sure to use LOT for my next trip, now I know they deny Polacks boarding if they can't be bothered to get to the gate on time. Marvellous news.

I have had no problems with LOT's planes (not better or worse than AA or Aer Lingus) or delays but their ground staff is very mean, arrogant and unprofessional.

Few years ago I flew from WAW to BWI and during check in I was asked wheter I am US permanent resident or citizen. Now,I didn't know they have to ask that when they can't find US visa in Polish passport and I was in a bad mood that day so I told this women that it's none of her bussines. At this point other LOT broad told her "Don't check HIM in" instead of simply telling me that they have to ask this question. So, I had to explode and show them their place.Very mean and unprofessional in my opinion.

Actually, they have to pay a fine for every illegal immigrant like you which they bring to the USA, so it is their job to check your paperwork.

Fine, then it's their duty to explain it to me.Plain and simple.I had arguments with employees of other airlines and they were always like "Sir, I apologize but...", so it seems that others can be professional.

You are really stupid. They can ask any question they want, specially when they see arrogant Poles like you, when they fear the country is invaded by illegals and on high alert. Too bad they didn't arrest you, maybe you'd learn something.

Phew,I was arrested once at JFK for fighting on a plane and it wasn't bad at all so I ain't scared.

In almost 50 years of flying, I have never seen a fight on a plane. You must be a real piece of work to have done that.

I had arguments with employees of other airlines

Do you have an anger management problem?

Well as you know ironside, many of the areobridges are unused and they still buses to ship people out to the planes. Therefore if you were late to boarding it might have been more of an effort than at an aero bridge, but yes you are right to an extent, it actually takes another 10 or so minutes to find the passengers bag and offload so sop is to delay the flight slightly for the passenger who has checked in but not yet boardedl.

Now i feel this may have been an individual staff problem and not an indictment of lot in general. They have made some good strides lately, and considering their ceo is only on 200k or so, are playing it smart. Their new long haul route to vietnam has been a sucsess and the only reason their long haul planes appear old is that they are waiting for the massively delayed 787s, like everyone else.

I just love when people are late and then they complain on forums that they were mistreated.

I did not have any problems with LOT. Actually, I like the check-in facility from downtown Warsaw. Food is better than most, and with rare exceptions, crew are very friendly.

I once had a problem when I purchased a Lufthansa ticket for a flight operated by LOT, and that was Lufthansa's fault. However, it only resulted in a minor inconvenience at WAW because my boarding pass (along with my wife's) had to be re-issued. Otherwise everything else was ok.

I fly with a lot of airlines due to the nature of my work, and LOT is definitely one of the best. This is how I rate the airlines I remember using:

Good: Qatar Airways, Emirates, LOT, Czech Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Etihad Airways, Kathay Pacific

Average: KLM, Turkish, Middle East (Lebanese Airlines), Alitalia

Bad: Lufthansa, Royal Jordanian, Air France, British Airways

Very Bad: Air Canada/Canadian Airlines, Delta... I never had a decent flight with a North American airline ever. They redefine terrible!

This thread should be merged with this thread, really: Why does everyone seem to hate LOT Polish Airlines?

I shouldn't be doing the mods job for them lol ;)

Good: Qatar Airways

Without doubt the best in-flight food I've ever had, better than some restaurants. There's no way you would get a decent main-course curry at 6am on a LOT flight, that's for sure :)

That's right :) However, transit area in Doha airport is not particularly good. But when the new airport opens it should be much better

lol, that place reminds me of the old Etiuda terminal. Four A340s turn up at the same time, with one hour to transfer to another flight... and they have four people on security. The toilets are worse than a nightclub at 4am. And everyone ignores the "don't sleep on the prayer room floor" signs :D

It's not often that we can say that Poland is ahead of a rich oil-producing state, but they are on this one :)

If you are lucky, it will happen to be during Ramadan, and if you are extra lucky, you will land together with flights from Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Dhaka... If the smell doesn't kill you first, they will eat you alive! Joy to the world my friend, joy to the world! lol

no fault of mine, waiting in one queue to check in and then security check without fast track and then they say hey airport have nothing to do with us ?WTF? Cannot they communicate it is in their mutual interest - LOT Polish airline and Polish Airport - hence my question - who is running that firm ?an incompetent moron ?

ell as you know ironside, many of the areobridges are unused

I have seen my plane at the end of a jet-lay.

a, yes, and the stewardesses of course... ;)
