Why does everyone seem to hate LOT Polish Airlines?

Their organization at the airport sucks ! I checked in and I was late about two minutes for my plane, puff I had to buy ticked for another plane.
My being late was entirely fault of LOT's lousy organization.
There was an American dude, giving off as well. Voicing undue generalisations not only about airline but about the country as well, I didn't kick his hole because he was in his late sixties -rude fukker.

What did LOT do to cause you (looks like everyone else made it just fine) to be late for your flight.

Sounds like you should have made an effort to get out of bed earlier that day.

see about two post above

yeah typical polish attitude blame a service user, you didn't make it ? you are sucker ? A very business like attitude eh?they should accommodate me if possible and it would have been possible in my case.

LOT failed to deliver services I paid for because of their poorly organized services at the airport; clear now? and let it sink in!

To be fair, you don't know that.

Ironside, how many minutes before departure did you arrive at the gate? was it an iternational or domestic flight?

Did they put you on the next flight? How much extra did you have to pay?

Im thrilled to have found this post. Finally I can express my feelings about LOT Polish Airlines. Hands down the worst airline EVER! It disgusts me! The flight attendants act as though they are doing you a favor instead of their job. The fleet is ANCIENT!!!! Its scary getting on their planes specially- JFK-WAW. I would rather pay for a drink or my meal but know that the airline is well maintained. etc. I have vocalized my strong opinion about LOT to my family and friends. We all fly Swiss Air and transfer in Zurich to WAW. A friend of mine is currently on a LOT flight from JFK-WAW, circling around Warsaw bc the tires wont come out! Preparing for an emergency landing. Very angry with LOT....its simply despicable.

Plane of the LOT Polish Airlines Boeing 767 crash-landed in Warsaw Okecie . On board were 231 people. No one was injured. The machine had an emergency landing after it has slid chassis . Despite this , the pilot safely seated on the machine airstrip . The hero is Captain Tadeusz Wrona . During the landing appeared a small fire, but the airport service was immediately suppressed .

Amazingly perfect belly landing from the pilots.. This particular 767 was built in 96 so not that ancient asia

Blame Boeing for being at least four years late with replacement aircraft.

The fleet is ANCIENT!!!!

Been over this a thousand times on here - LOT's fleet is comparable to any US/Canadian fleet.

but know that the airline is well maintained. etc.

Tell me, who do you think maintains LOT's fleet?

I will let the story below speak for itself...

Purchased a ticket on Lot for JFK-WAW-OTP departing on November 1st for an emergency family funeral. Upon check in I was told that the boarding pass for the WAW-OTP flight will be issued in WAW. I thought that was strange but did not pay attention. After a 3 hour delayed take off, it was announced that we will not be landing at WAW but rather at GDN. Family could not find out what happened all day. LOT customer service did not answer the phones for 3 hours (my family hanged up after 3 hours of being on hold). At GDN, not only were no alternatives available but we were told we have to take a bus to WAW (a 350km / 6 hour trip). Upon arrival to WAW we found out the airport is still closed due to the crash landing and were left with no options to travel to OTP. I missed the funeral and therefore my entire trip is now without cause. This ticket was purchased on October 31st close to midnight for travel on November 1st. The cost for the fare was $1007 and I consider this a rip off. Had they told me at JFK that this was going to happen, I would have walked over to another airline's counter to purchase another ticket that ensured I would be in OTP in time for the funeral.

Last but not least, when the flight from JFK was delayed for 3 hours and I was concerned about the connection in WAW that was only a 1 hour 40 minute connection. I went to the LOT counter and asked them for alternatives explaining the nature of my situation. I was told they can't find any alternative for my travels and not to worry that once I land in WAW there are a few options in case I miss the connection. This was a complete lie in my face since it turned out the airport in WAW was closed from the morning and not even estimated to open back up until the next day at 8 pm at the earliest (which is way past any connections that would have been available).

They should not even be allowed to do business in the United States anymore based on this type of customer service! It is complete theft and abuse of the customers in the interest of money!

What has the price of the fare got to do with anything? It's a last minute ticket, you should expect to pay a premium.

This was a complete lie in my face since it turned out the airport in WAW was closed from the morning and not even estimated to open back up until the next day at 8 pm at the earliest (which is way past any connections that would have been available).

Actually, yesterday, the airport was estimated to be open at 8am in the morning. Do try and stop lying.

Less of the emotion, please.

Also, isn't it a bit strange that you only seemingly had one day between booking the ticket and the funeral?

I also wonder why on earth you tried to connect through WAW for a flight to OTP - JFK to LHR/FRA/CDG/AMS would seem to be the most sensible routing. Could it be that you were attempting to fly on the cheap?

Personally, I think you're attempting to blame LOT for something that was partially your fault. Normal psychological reaction.

I also think your story is full of crap - I've just found returns, travelling at peak times, for flying tomorrow (returning Monday) for less than $500 return. I've even found a connection through AMS for that price. Do try harder in future when telling lies on internet forums.

Now they are one aircraft short, it may well happen. Cheaper than the 787...

please keep the 'landing' comments to the new thread. thank you.

I'm confused, do you mean we should comment in this thread or that thread ?

Purchased a ticket on Lot for JFK-WAW-OTP departing on November 1st for an emergency family funeral.

Arn't the airlines supposed to give you a discount if its to attend a funeral?

Quite the opposite, these days.

I'm still very confused why he was charged over $1000 and was flying via WAW when all the online trip planners give prices (for peak, peak times) of around $400-600 return for flights via the big European hubs - LHR/AMS/CDG/FRA

In the US if you have documents showing you're traveling to a funeral an airline might use the bereavement clause and offer you a discounted ticket to/from but only if there are seats still available (usually it's a last minute call). I know several coworkers who've flown on other carriers to their loved ones' funerals.

Poland's national carrier, LOT Polish Airlines has been given the go-ahead by Russian authorities to fly over Siberia, with more Asian destinations planned for 2012 as a result.

The opening up of Siberian airspace has meant that LOT is planning to open routes when the airline takes delivery of Boeing's 787 Dreamliners next year. Also Russian national carrier Aeroflot will open another route to Poland, to Krakow's Balice airport from Moscow-Sheremetyevo as of June 1, 2012.

Well, they've certainly improved their website since the last time I booked directly with them (a few years ago).

They even beat Expedia on price now, which was rarely the case before.

Cheaper tickets, seat selection at the time of booking, online check-in... and pilots who can land without wheels... what more could you want? :) If you don't like it, you could always use an American airline instead :p

I have taken a flight from Munich to Warsaw on LOT last year and be quite honest I was very immpressed with the service on the ground and in the air. Flight attendats were very friendly and attentive, inside the cabin clean and lot of leg room, in economy class. I don't know what type of aircraft it was but I remember it had two engines near tail section right in the back.
