I can believe that. At primary school they used to scare us by telling us that French kids had to go to school on Saturdays.

But IIRC they had Wednesday off? And they got wine at school?!?!?!?

No one likes them very much but France is definitely at its best when it goes its own way.....

I think they stopped that in the 50s or 60s. It must have been a teacher's dream to have them nodding off from red wine in the afternoon.

Love and hate. And they do have some excellent quirks. I hope they don't lose them.

I used to love French movies that were people sitting around discussing the meaning of life and with minimal plot... those don't seem to exist anymore.... Eric Rohmer is one of my all time favorite directors.

Oh gosh, yes, me too! They were wonderful to watch in the late hours of the evening. There used to be quite a lot of them on BBC2 and Channel 4 back in the day.

Somehow the times of French films have passed, now we mainly watch English crime stories. Perhaps no country in the world has so many police inspectors.

I liked them too. Nouvelle Vague films. They used to have ale Weekend on every few months.

Plus those very colourful ones with singing. I forget the director's name. Les Demoiselles de Rochefort and Les Parapluies de Cherbourg.

Two years ago I mentioned a traditional Polonaise dance performed by students and teachers at the beginning of 100 days ball in high schools all over Poland.

There are other popular dances which students do at the ball. One of them is a so called Belgian Dance: music and lyrics adopted from a Belgian folk band Lais and choreography from an old French dance. The rumour is that it came to Poland from Sweden.

Students like it cos it promotes integration at the party allowing the shy ones to take active part in the fun.

It is interesting to know it took off aka became a new lay tradition in Poland about 15 years ago. That is why it is highly advisable to watch old videos coz selected students who performed it then where the ones who had done a lot of practice before. Today`s dances don`t look so professional. :):):)

The head of the town council dismissed the head teacher of the local high school. Students and parents stood up in her defence and confronted the mayor after he was leaving the school building.

Fat Thursday or Doughnut Day is approaching.

Each year I eat a lot of doughnuts at my schools, mostly provided by the staff but sometimes by students who want to avoid being tested on the day. So, when I really need to test them, e.g, in final grades, I always give them a bonus to what they really deserve. So, it a student deserves 4 aka C, I give him/her 5 aka B.

Why???
W imiÄ™ zasad, ssssss............. oops, sorry, not this saying.

Why???
Because I can! Ha!!!

You might want to lay of the student doughnuts, tubby. With all the Marxist propaganda youre spewing, it wouldnt surprise me if some of them are looking to give you a taste of your own medicine., something sweet to speed up your ideological awakening! LOL
