Actually the pronunciation of Łodź by itself is better rendered "wootch" since the final dź is devoiced (pronounced like ć )

if you add an ending the vowel changes to o (like Spanish o) and the dź is pronounced like dź

Many (most? all?) people from Łódź tend to say 'miasto Łódź' instead of Lódź (at least when talking to people from other parts of the country:

'Mieszkam w mieście Łodzi.' rather than 'Mieszkam w Łodzi.'

Better "Lodsch" than "Litzmannstadt" (Lieber Lodsch als Litzmannstadt), he-he!

Ya better never ever Litzmannstadt. You must know it better.
