Eurovision - Today I will be ashamed to be Polish

Germany ends (nearly) always somewhere at the bottom!

15 this year, just one place behind Poland.... though with almost identical points from the juries and public. Not too bad.

ok..

This year was very unpredictable. I'm just glad that while it was clear before the contest that Austria would be a judges favorite they left room for other songs to pass it with the televote (unlike last year).

Israel's finish is kind of a surprise but very often in the past some reasonably attractive woman singing and okay-ish song reasonably well would place unreasonably high... so part of it might be that.

BS.

The winner was going to be gay.

So little stood out.

singing an okay-ish song reasonably well

Some of the more traditional juries would like that.

So little stood out.

What would stand out for you?

Some of the more traditional juries would like that.

I think they usually got most of their votes from the audience.

What would stand out for you?

Something memorable. Nice to listen to again and again. Or very danceable.

Over the years there's been a handful though nothing this year stood out.

most of their votes from the audience

Even more traditional in some places.

Eurovision song contest is utter crap and yes, it's loved by the gays, I don't know why.

Artists have more freedom.

More than where?

I don't know why.

Because judges were told to love gays?

Artists have more freedom.

Who do they think owns popular music?

Eurovision used to be fun when I was young, because we could laugh at all the crappy music coming from Europe.... but the music is even worse now and the competition is all about politics and not music.
And why are Israel and Australia in it????
Time for the UK to do a Eurovisionexit......

Time for the UK to do a Eurovisionexit......

Italy did that, largely due to the tacky music, however they're back in now due to public demand.

I am sure the same would happen in the UK, but I just don't get it.

As far as Eurovision goes, we had a half decent song, came 19th with 88 points, Austria got something like 438 points!

Europe just hates the UK!

Europe just hates the UK

We came second a couple of years ago and would certainly have won had there not been an invasion a couple of months previously.

It's just that we have dull songs and that most of Europe has less sophisticated tastes in popular music.

We came second a couple

No. You didn't come second.

Mr or Ms X came second. He or she happened to live in the UK.

No. The entrants are sent there by country.

You don't have to post in every thread for the sake of it. It is boring.

but the music is even worse now and the competition is all about politics and not music.

You and jon are very much missing the point as people ou... that is your age... your age, often do.

Eurovision is a whole season now, not one isolated evening.

The best part of Eurovision isn't the show or the contest but fact that countries release the songs on youtube a month or two (sometimes more).

It's actually kind of heartwarming to see comments from all over Europe saying nice things about the country and song.....

Just opened a video of this year's Polish entry:

"12 points from Armenia πŸ‡¦πŸ‡²πŸ‡΅πŸ‡± this is absolutely masterpiece WINNER OF ESC 2025❀"

"From today on, my nationality is Polish. Thank you for existing, Justyna Steczkowska. πŸ‡§πŸ‡· πŸ‡΅πŸ‡±"

"I don't understand Polish but listening to your song touches the soul and gives a divine feeling."

"12 points from Croatia❀ πŸ‡πŸ‡·πŸ‡΅πŸ‡±"

Youtube has made Eurovision 10 times better and done more for the original purpose of the contest than anything else.

Hmmph. I'm younger than Milo by about a decade. You're a harder call however I'd guess within a decade. Textual analysis does suggest "very young at heart boomer" though...

Eurovision is a whole season now, not one isolated evening.

This does seem to be a trend. It's not imposible to see it morphing into one of those talent show franchises. That might not be a bad step.

It's still not as good as it was when Sandie Shaw* was in it.

* A trivial fact; the reason she sang barefoot is that she is very short sighted and needed to feel the edge of the stage so she didn't fall off...

t "very young at heart boomer"

Maybe marginally a boomer (people cut off these things different) and not so much 'young at heart' as "deals with young people a lot and tries to understand the world the way they do (a precondition for broadening their horizons)"

I keep wondering about the discrepancy between some "jury" vote and the "public vote"....

It keeps happening in Germany at nearly every preselection contest too....the stuff we send to the Eurovision is NOT and NEVER the one we actually should send....as if there is some alien opressor forcing us....the taste differs so widely, its getting creepy!

Told you it is a shady business. I guess in Poland is the same.

The Swiss for Germany? Why oh why???

And the Brits love Poland? Or its the Poles in Britain voting more probably....

"12 points from Armenia πŸ‡¦πŸ‡²πŸ‡΅πŸ‡±

"12 points from Croatia❀ πŸ‡πŸ‡·πŸ‡΅πŸ‡±"

Cut the crap with Armenia or Croatia...

It's two people who know how to sing. BFD...Nobody in Armenia or Croatia had anything to do with it. Not even the parents...

Singing competition is not WW3, so knock it off...

Singing competition is not WW3, so knock it off

It is not, but Eurovision is very politicized with many small and large wars, e.g. with Israel or LGBT.

Or its the Poles in Britain voting more probably....

It is. Same for Czechs and Bulgarians.

Ireland and UK too, since we've traditionally been the largest minority in each other's country. The Scandis all vote for each other as well, as do Greece and South Cyprus.

We always used to get votes from Netherlands and Belgium since for decades they've watched our TV for free and some of the culture has rubbed off on them.
mafketis  41 | 11415
21 May 2025   #569
South Cyprus.

you recognize Northern Cyprus?

Also the old national voting blocs are nowhere near as strong as they used to be. I remember what a shock it was a few years ago when Cyprus didn't give Greece 12 points.... politics and diasporas still play a role but much less of one.

The Eurovision... whatever it is, has changed entirely over the last few years. Comments that reflect the situation from the 90s or 2000s are very out of date now.

Northern Cyprus?

Why favour one over the other?

has changed entirely over the last few years

This sincere true. For years the U.K. commentator used to take the **** out of the unsophisticated foreign entries. The EBU hated that. Now they've upped their game a bit, though there's still plenty from the balkans to laugh at.
