Yes, but definitely not to the dogs. Instead, into the arms of elated fans.

Ekaterina Kurakova (she's Russian, but representing Poland) is fifth after her short program at the European Figure Skating Championships 2023 in Espoo, Finland. The women's free skating program is today and starts at 12:00. Who knows, maybe she has a chance for a medal. I think I'm going to watch it! 🤔

Ski jump ranking - countries

Today a Polish ski jumper beat the record as the oldest ski jumping gold winning champion. Amasing!

After the victory in Planica, Piotr Żyła became the oldest world champion in history. The 36-year-old broke his own record.

Piotr Żyła in an amazing style defended the title on the normal hill! After the first round, the Pole was 13th, but in the second attempt he landed on 105 m, breaking the hill record. No one has managed to overtake him and added another gold to his collection.

Two years ago, in Oberstdorf, Żyła also won the competition on the normal hill. He was 34 at the time. This made him the oldest world champion in history. Then he beat the achievement of Anders Bardal, who in 2013 won the world championship at the age of 31.

The Norwegian team gravely regrets they didn`t win in Planica. They complained to the organisers but to no avail. What azholes.

Piotr Żyła became the oldest world champion in history.

He will get about 35.000 euros

Poland has confirmed that Russian and Belarusian athletes will be banned from this year's European Games, which is being hosted in Kraków and its surrounding region in June and July.

The decision makes Poland the first country to announce that it will not comply with yesterday's recommendation by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that Russians and Belarusians be allowed to return to international competition by competing under a neutral flag.

Absolutely the right decision!

Quite. And the same should be at the Paris Olympics next year if r*SSia is still waging war in Europe.

dopers

There are a lot of sports medals that should be retrospectively stripped from the drugs cheats but probably never will be.

slightly OT but why do the olympics even exist any more?

what function they serve that couldn't be better served in less corrupt ways?

they had a time and that time is over...

People like them and they make a lot of money for hotels, airlines, TV companies, construction companies, restaurants and all those working in the aforementioned sectors, plus prostitutes, police overtime and pickpockets. Much the same as when Aristophanes wrote 2300 years ago "I'm gonna go to the Olympic Games, to eat, drink and screw some dames.

less corrupt ways

There's always been that aspect of it. The viewing figures show that people like it though.

Poland prefered to resign from holding a fencing championship in Poznań than to allow Russian athletes to freely take part in it. Good.

@pawian
Well if Russian athletes are allowed to sportsmanship during a invasion performed by their country then the whole sport event becomes a farce...

Sport is in place as to compete with each as not to wage war. Olympics were after all not performed during war

Yes. I wonder if it is possible to establish new committees for various sports if the old organisations still let Russian participate in events.

still let Russian participate in events.

Yes, that collective responsibility - what a wonderful idea, especially when practiced by NAZIs in Lidice.

Yes, that collective responsibility

Nope, it isn`t. Russian athletes can still participate in events in Poland if they sign a declaration they don`t support the war and aren`t sponsored by the Russian military etc.

If they refuse to sign it, it is their problem, isn`t it???

BTW, the idea of an anti war declaration for Russians was first suggested here by one of our posters last year but I won`t reveal his/her nick out of pure modesty.

don`t support the war

Easy. I don't support rapes, murders, arson, looting, wars, gulags, and politicizing sports. Demanding such a declaration from a Russian girl who just wants to play tennis is beyond moronic.

But, since the idea is Polish, I am not shocked...

It's a fair compromise however I'd prefer to see them completely excluded.

Typical Eurotard elitist comment between 2 twats! This just proves again how bias and moronic you losers are. Thanks, for the laugh:)

She couldn't find love for a long time, she also had a miscarriage and a depression afterwards... Now she will have to raise their little son on her own :(

Very sad news. Especially that they'd found happiness as well as achieving great things as climbers and then had it cruelly snatched away from them.

Just watched the game. Poland won. I must admit I am happy but worried. In set 2 and 3 we lost a big adventage. At times we were 6 points ahead and lost it. Set 3 was crazy: 35-33

The question is what is a bigger sign for the future: losing 6 points lead or being able to keep cool is stressful moments?
